Amazing how TH-cam makes these recommendations. I fished Peconic bay over 40yrs ago. Sold my boat in 1985. Been on party boats ever since. If I survive the Covid quarantine, I think a center console with fish finder & trolling motor are in my future.

Hey John, a thought about your pinfish. Almost every time there’s an east swell and a south wind, I find strange fish washing up on the beach, or pushed in close to shore. I found a few strange species washed up on the beach this past week or two. A pinfish is a very cool catch, good work.

You should try the same tackle in Huntington harbor right in front of the light house out on a kayak. When the tide comes in it disturbs the substrate which releases detritus and the porgies feast on it.

Fish for scup in the west end of CCC,with light gear,an 8'6" salmon /steelhead rod, baitcaster throwing a steel shot filled plastic bobber, 6 ' leader and a clouser with a piece of red yarn tied in at the bend which is dipped in a plastic jar containing chopped squid. It's a blast, good for macks in the east end as well as schoolies.

Yes. It caught 3/4 of our keepers opening day, and that was my first day using it. I didn't even have a good handle on the autopilot or cruise control yet. Seriously if I knew on the first trip what I know now (9 days later), we would have had more fish.

Me and my uncle love catching porgies they are great fighting and great eating. I know this is a long shot but do you know a good place to fish on shore surf casting for porgies. I don’t mind the travel. I rather be on land with my uncle rather than be on a party boat especially In the current situation we are in. Please if you can recommend a place I would greatly appreciate it.

John, word to the wise...been using a trolling motor for years and 1 issue I have had...I recommend that you use some type of support for the motor head. It will stop the head bouncing as your running. Will save you some headaches down the road by avoiding the head unit becoming lose from bouncing and vibration.

Question please. I usually fish for porgies off party boats. Usually using!6-8 oz sinkers on high-low rigs. How might I use this skinner jigs in this application? I expect I’d still need the heavy sinker to stay straight up-down to minimize boat tangles?

On a partyboat you might be better off staying with the standard stuff if it's crowded. I'm able to use 3/4-ounce here because of the thin 10# braid.
