I don't think I've ever seen anyone make it so clear that a musical instrument is just that - an instrument to enable the musician to express his music. The way he relates to that guitar is extraordinary.
Iv said it a million times and Ill say it again, There is no one like Darrell Scott. He brought me to the American Folk sound in 2009 after I lost the man I called Dad. With "Open Door" he found a lifelong fan in me.His music has lifted me in the hardest times of my life and managed to brighten even the days I thought could not get any better. I sing his songs day and night to my children and his music is as much a part of this home as we ourselves are. It doesnt get any better than this.
I can't find this song on spotify..so sad... I love this guy.
One of those songs which will remain timeless, touching generations by its honesty.

Unfassbar gut. Sagenhaft. Songwriting Genius. I've been listening to this song 10 times a day since two weeks and I can't get enough of it.
The end of the cd version with the choir is unbelievable. This will definitely be covered by some corporate country star singer who will repeat the final chorus over and over again . . .
It amazes me that "American Idol" (and even modern country) is what the average person thinks a singer is supposed to sound like. Man, this ca'ts voice is so beautiful I have to fight back tears every time I hear him. He can bust hard on a guitar (actually several instruments) when he wants to and his song-writing is second to none. What a truly exceptional artist.

Why is this man not on the radio? Exceptional musicianship and heartfelt vocals. I am so sick of all the interchangeable pretty boys singing about trucks, tractors, mudholes and beer.
It was just announced he is touring with Zac Brown Band 2017. It's great to think of the much deserved exposure he will get.

I listened to several songs, because he has a very soothing voice and a lovely message, I liked the Porter Wagoneer song about the settled mind or satisfied mind oh I forget, I'm slow that way but it was about 4 hrs ago because I was working a little. Yes it was all very beautiful

Fantastic song and performance! Seriously added to my to-do list... This may sound strange but, anyone know what mic's he's using for his guitar? Small-diaphragm Condenser Instrument Microphone of some sort?? They really sound great, better than plugged in...

Mighty mighty fine. Great sound quality too. Anyone know anything about that super-dinky SD condenser pair? They look expensive.
They are Brad Avenson's. Custom made, but they are only 1/4 of the sound. Great River preamp...dBx160 comp...to Graham Blythe EQ. Of course...the big thing is Darrell knowing how to work the chain. He's one of my favorite artist to come to my studio.
Cheers Dennis, that's great info. Those Avenson's are a bargain! I assumed they'd be eye-wateringly expensive but a shade of $500 for a matched pair is almost cheap. The whole chain is a little more pricey but not by pro studio standards.
I don't understand what you mean by Darrell working the chain, but I am sure whatever he does is the right thing!

Brother, that is so true. You hear a lot of people sing and they sound like they're "trying" to make music. "Trying" to give you what they think you'll buy. But with DS, it just flows from him like water coming out of an ancient mountain. Just natural and honest. It never feels forced or contrived. No gimmicky hooks or cheap "sexuals". Just real music for all the right reasons.
His guitar picking technique is also a large part of his sound and emotions. Wonderful dynamics! I watch him about everyday!

There are some songs that seem to live outside of time---you feel they've always existed. Darrell Scott is a conduit for this timeless, wondrous, heartbreaking song.
Such a beautiful blending of talent, joy and pain, expressed with loving tenderness.... true artist. Also, besides the powerful songwriting and singing, Darrell is a kick butt guitarist.
This is what I want to hear on the radio, WoW what a talent.
