You need to have additional talk time apart from your pack. 50 paisa is deducted by airtel every time you dial *99# from additional talktime recharge. For every transaction 50 paisa is the fees. Say if you check balance, then transfer 30 rupees to a shop for buying vegetable, you spend 50+50= 1 rupee extra. If you dial *99# and close it without doing anything, still 50 paisa is deducted. For poor people every paisa matters. 5 or 10 paisa per transaction is still fine but not 50 paisa. Telecom companies can now make additional money from feature phone users. Nothing comes free, there is always a catch.
