    With microlocs, interlocs you can wash your hair more frequently. Washing helps to loc the hair. You don't want to get too much buildup as its hard to get build up out of locs. Just make sure to braid and band while washing.

    Your hair looks amazing. I watched your install journey and was really impressed by your whole process. Thank you for sharing your experience. Welcome to the hair freedom crew.
    I have been locked for 51 months (4yr, 3mths), just thought that I would share that your hair will shrink, as part of the locking process. I started my SL with shoulder length hair and it eventually shrunk to chin length, but I ended up loving it at the length.
    It wasn’t till I got to year 3, that I started to experience length, now it’s growing like a weed. (Bra strap length). I love it, but it can be annoying especially at night when my hair really get in my way.
    I said all of that to say this, So try not to stretch your hair to much as it can hinder the locking process. I believe that as soon as it locks, the quicker you will start to experience the growth. Just enjoy every step of the process. 👑

    Also to assist with getting a really good wash, try massaging your scalp under running water BEFORE your first lather. It will allow you to loosen up a lot of the oil, dirt, debris that's on your scalp, so when you lather, it will cleanse really well.

    • @naturalwarrior8127
      @naturalwarrior8127 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Can you oil your scalp with locs

    • @SisterlockedPrincess
      @SisterlockedPrincess 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@naturalwarrior8127 yes, absolutely ... HOWEVER, it really depends on where you are in your loc process. In the beginning (first few months) you may not want to use oils too much, or at all, because that might cause your locs to unravel or cause slippage. Also, some people whose scalp secretes a lot of natural oil, may not need to add oil. My scalp is very dry, therefore I oil after every wash, and sometimes in between.

    You should have waited 3 weeks before you wash so the hair can start to mesh...meanwhile use a dry shampoo while you wait out the 3 weeks...going forward try to do the dry shampoo in between washes while you wait out the 3weeks until the hair can hold its own...the edges will continue to slip each time you wash because they are the softer and silkiest part of your hair...overall you did a really great job .. enjoy your journey sister..

      Thank you so much for the tip! Any dry shampoo recommendations?

  • @jacmacrn
    @jacmacrn 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I actually think your flaking at install was probably just dry scalp. The Suave Clarifying and Sisterlock shampoo wash out all of your natural oils and any products leaving it bone dry. I also think that if they aren’t washed out thoroughly they leave flakes as well.
    I also use a regular shower cap in the shower.

    I ❤️ your hair😍
    I’m 4 months in and committed to no washing, oils, swimming, grease, rose water, silk caps at all. They are all antilocking so I use absolutely no product at all and sleep banded with cotton pillow case. I have no scalp issues at all in my life so I have no dandruff and no odor.
    My loctician just used shampoo on a rinsed out wash rag directly to my scalp last retie. That’s the closet to a wash I’ve gotten😂 We are seeing partial locking and thickening already. (4bhair)
    For shower I use a cap and tie it down .

    i wouldnt retie the baby ones more tightly, just more frequently. so maybe every other day add in one more pass in a direction to interlock so you can monitor their progress a little more closely and make sure they arent slipping out. doing them tighter will just add strain and tension to your scalp potentially damaging your hair follicles and your locs in the long run!

    Tay LaDawn, I am looking at this video and your hands run easily through your locs. Your ends are a little frizzy but not bad. I feel like my ends are too frizzy (in my opinion) and when I run my fingers through my hair, there are loose strands still. I don't know if that is normal or not. It was suggested that I put oil on the ends to help with the process. Suggestions? What do you think? My install was 7/4/22 and today is 7/7/22. The frizziness concerns me deeply.

      @@TayLaDawn try using a dry shampoo or a little seabreeze on a cotton ball on your scalp. I know it has alcohol in seabreeze but it won't dry your hair out. Use it just on the scalp then go back with a cotton ball with water.

      I think waiting is only for certain types of starter locks like comb coils and maybe 2-strand twists. Micro locks, braidlocks, interlocks, and sister locks can wash earlier and more frequently.

    Invest in a real shower cap it's better than the conditioning cap.

    I’m just watching your video now to learn how to wash my baby microlocs . Can you please tell me if in my area there is no suave? Can I use any clarifying shampoo? Because i see everybody using only this, Amazon doesn’t ship in my area.

      Some do braiding and banding to help avoid slippage and bunching.

    Where did you get the micro-fiber towel? I like the hook and loop at the top of it.

    Nice job with wash day. I haven't tried Aloe Vera juice yet, so please let me know how that works for your locs. Shrinkage is real, but your locs still look lovely :-).
