- Two men who were part of the notorious Rochdale grooming gang have lost an appeal against deportation back to Pakistan following a seven-year legal battle, immigration judges have ruled.
Adil Khan, 51, and Qari Abdul Rauf, 52, had been told they are to be deported from the UK for the public good after being part of a gang convicted in 2012 of a catalogue of serious sex offences against young girls.
A decade after they were jailed and following a legal battle involving multiple legal challenges and appeals up to the Court of Appeal, both have been told their challenge against deportation on human rights grounds has failed.
In June, their appeal against deportation was heard before an Immigration Tribunal.
Judges Charlotte Welsh and Judge Siew Ling Yoke, a diversity and community relations judge, released their 31-page legal ruling on Wednesday stating that Khan had shown a “breath-taking lack of remorse” and in his and Rauf’s case there was a “very strong public interest” in their removal.
The decision was made in August and released publicly on Wednesday.

the law should be changed so that they are removed automatically and that those with another nationality (even if they also hold a British passport) are not allowed legal aid.

As a British-born Muslim woman, I somewhat agree with you. Yes, my Pakistani-born parents forced me into a marriage with a first cousin at 19. But since then, I have discovered that they were themselves brainwashed by their relatives that live in Pakistan. My parents had a daily battle with themselves in allowing me an education and a career. They failed when forcing me into marriage. But they watched me fight this marriage from day one, allowing me distance and space, protecting me against those that wanted to harm me (honour killing), eventually helping me gain a divorce and giving my younger brothers and sisters more freedom to choose for themselves. They learnt from their mistakes and distanced themselves from those said relatives. I am first-generation British-born, so I suppose that had to happen to the next to grow more aware. What I am saying is, yes, Pakistan still needs to grow out of its 'male-dominates-all' mindset, but please don't tarnish all with the same brush. Some can learn and move with the times. Seeing me now, my parents have aged considerably under their guilt, and I feel sorry for them. I wouldn't wish such a life lesson to any parent if I could help it.
Regarding your other suggestion on the Koh-Hi-Noor, please don't forget that the British ruled over India/Pakistan for many years. Then left, splitting the country in two, a wound that has never stopped seeping to this day. Though I believe the jewel should remain with the British because the Pakistan government is corrupt, they wouldn't know what to do with it but sell it anyway. I couldn't get legal aid after I lost my job as I was 14 days sort to qualify . But I am a white English male and worked from 14 year old(not same job contractor) am 49 now.
