  • See the detailed article here goo.gl/13F7Fw and visit the store here at weldmongerstore.com/ Socket welds are part of the gig if you are a pipe welder….Not the most challenging welds there are ...But not something you typically get any training on when you are in welding school either.
    this video shows walking the cup as well as free handing using a tig finger xl.
    So the reason for this video is to provide a training tool for new pipe welders fresh out of school, or for plant maintenance personnel too who might be required to make a socket weld every now and then.

      You can also hover the tungsten just above the metal, and strike the filler metal to it, to initiate the arc.

    Thats really nice. Ive got a 350 power mig that i have given up on the tig option. Mainly because of the lift arc...dont like that at all...spend more time unsticking the electrode than welding. You make it look smooth as can be. :)

    Jody, awesome video, like always very informative. Hope you are enjoying the vacations. You may get this question or comment a lot and please redirect me if you already have answered already or if there is a video about it, but I would like know what would be the better choice between the Miller multiprocess 200 and the Lincoln 210mp? I would like to get started in welding as a hobbyist only and space and budget are limited, so the idea of owning only one machine is relatively tempting. I have read your comments in your site regarding Miller and getting a syncrowave and a cheap mig, but the prices for both are not ideal for me. What says you?
    Thanks for the videos, I'm starting a welding class pretty soon because I want to get some basic instruction partly because of your videos. Keep up the videos they inspire people to weld.

    What kind of gloves do you use? And what torch?
    I have a Miller Maxstar 150, lift arc like this, at work with a 17 series torch and I can't hold it up close to the head of the torch like that for more than a couple of beads at 85-90amps without it nearly burning right thru the glove. Have similar issues on my Lincoln TIG 275 also so I figure I may just have crappy gloves?

    What is the purpose of welding it all the way around, and even with a second pass when there is no need for any significant strength in the construction?

  • @mikejustice1196
    @mikejustice1196 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    When you tacked the first weld that was at an angle, and then you used a level, did the pipe move to plumb for the second tack or did the entire piece move to plumb in the vise?
    In other words, is the pipe inside the elbow plumb after the complete weld up or is it out of plump?
    Thanks

      chris hong its a flap-wheel sander, like a hundred pieces of emery paper glued to a steel shaft, any weld supply website or shop should have them, they also make them for angle grinders

    • @weldingtipsandtricks
      @weldingtipsandtricks  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Botello the foot pedal option is best for thin exhaust tubing but I would say 18 ga could be done without a pedal if you are up for it.
      a simple cheap 10 dollar set of calipers will work for determining thickness.

    • @rlm975
      @rlm975 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Robert Botello Instead of buying the Lincoln setup, I bought a CK Worldwide torch, and pedal from USA Weld. You'll have to buy the Lincoln adapter for the pedal. Much cheaper this way.

      +Robert Botello the 210mp really is a waste for tig, for about the 2k u spend your only getting lift arc DC tig. look at a AHP alphatig200. acdc tig for about 1k

    Swag Off Road never gave me any deals. I made a video on how to correct a problem with there band saw stands. As soon as Troy saw it he changed everyone of his band saw stands. Then he told me I was always looking for the ideal way to make it. But he never gave me any discount on anything I bought from him after that.

    It really saddens me to see that big "China" cast into that flange at the beginning of the video. When I was a kid, the only thing one saw that was made in China was chopsticks and firecrackers. Now 90% of what we buy is made there. I don't know what the answer is, but we had better reverse this trend.
