    Never apologise to us man. We understand, that's why we're renegades. He's speaking for all of us too. ❤

    No need to apologise for connecting with the music. ❤
    And we all miss stuff on our first listen to Ren. I am still hearing new stuff on songs I have heard 100 times. Layers, double meanings, clever references. It's what makes him such an interesting artist I think.

    This is what Ren does, he opens up conversations about mental health and medication, great reaction

    In Zach Sang Show [1:00:18] Ren explained: “Pig mask is almost like an uncomfortable companion who represents a lot of things, he represents greed, he represents my illness, but he is also so familiar in all of those situations. It’s like a thing that I’m frustrated with and have been at war with, he has been there so long that he‘s also my friend in a way...
    This thing is always there with me on my journey, he’s fucking my life up, but the same time there is a comfort in there because without him…
    If I just was to wake up tomorrow and I was 100% well it would be obviously a very surreal transition not to have that familiarity… because I don’t even remember what is like to feel to be completely healthy… It’s bizarre because there’s a weird comfort in it and in at the same time a discomfort”.

    I think you would really enjoy Ren's interview with Zach Sang. (If you did it as a reaction it's a bit long but could be split into parts or on a live. We'd definitely watch it with you.) He explains the pig, how he makes music, his treatment and the way they told him it was all in his head and loaded him up on medication he didn't really need. All the while not treating the real disease that was killing him. I think you would find a lot of common ground and things to say.

      I also thoroughly enjoyed the interview. It is unfortunate that Ren went through so many years of suffering while the Lyme disease was ravaging his body and mind. The misdiagnosis caused the doctors to dedicate their time trying to decide what mental disorder he had and medicating according to their opinion. It only served to amplify his problems.
      I’m so thankful that a doctor finally properly diagnosed his disease and through stem cell treatments, special diet , medication, and vitamin supplements was able to allow Ren to reclaim his life enough to allow him the opportunity to share his amazing talent with a world that needs someone like him. Ren is a true gift. I believe his treatments are still ongoing and necessary. I watch Ren videos daily and never tire of watching reactions to his music. I also send the link to watch Hi REN to people I know with a list of other songs to checkout but really they should watch and listen to them all.

    I’ve also had psychiatrists telling me it’s probably in my head as there’s nothing in my childhood that could have caused my depression and suicidal thoughts. Pumped me full of different medications until I was a floating chalk outline. Meantime I live with such severe chronic pain and PTSD from a horrible family event and I hit a major depression. I have the correct anti depression medication now that really helps. Thank you for sharing your story Eshplume.

    It’s very evident that you could really feel the track and that there’s an emotional connection to what he saying, and how you feel, and I for one will say I freaking love this reaction. One thing I think a lot of us are attracted to runs music is because it does make us feel a certain type of way and it’s really cool to see the emotions that evokes and others as well.

    Wow! Sorry to miss this live chat. This one clearly hit you over the head. I feel you and we are here BECAUSE we want to hear how you relate to this song based on your life experiences. You are doing a great job! Your story is sadly all too common. I work in special education in the U.S. and see it all the time. Neurodivergent children often have a hard time adjusting to traditional education models. I am a speech and language pathologist, and when a teacher asks me to come and observe a child who is having, “behavior problems,” I often find that unrealistic expectations and lack of understanding different learning styles is contributing to the problem. Not everyone can fit a cookie cutter mold.
    You remind me of a character in one of my favorite Dr. Seuss books, if he were grown up! 🥰 It is about a boy who is gifted at making BIG sounds! The book is called, “Gerald McBoing Boing.” 😊❤
    As for the pig, Ren has said he wants to leave that to audience interpretation. I believe it represents greed and corruption in all forms (e.g. government, medical and music industry).
    💔❤️‍🩹❤️

      He actually has come out and said it represents the pain and struggle he’s been through that’s been with him so long in an odd way it’s comforting because of all the time they’ve spent together. It’s very deep. He’s as good a person as a musician and I’m sure he’s aware that the struggle has made him a better person and musician. The dichotomy is fascinating..

      I’ve always felt the pig was representing a capitalist pig, and/or the pigs from George Orwell’s Animal Farm.

    I completely agree with you. This makes me so frustrated and angry. I am a retired psychiatrist and this therapist drives me crazy, patronising an distant, and not listening.
    I heard this already in Hi Ren when he said "Since my therapist told me I'm ill", a line which I have heard no-one else react to. I felt directly all the stuff he had been subjected to. And you too, apparently. I am so sorry, and I apologise on behalf of all the unengaged half-hearted therapists out there taking the easy road instead of listeming.
    Hugs.

  • @GarnetJ
    @GarnetJ 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    Don’t apologize for missing things or getting emotional. This song hits hard and it’s deeply personal. Unfortunately he dealt with many doctors, therapists, and practitioners who were dismissive, patronizing, and didn’t listen to him or believe his symptoms were real. He knows he’s not alone in those experiences, so he’s trying to be a voice for the voiceless. And too often the only solution offered is more pills, rather than looking holistically at the problem. Unfortunately some of the meds they prescribed made the Lyme disease symptoms worse. He has a great song Diazepam that you will enjoy. And I can’t remember if you’ve watched Chalk Outlines (live ft Chinchilla), but it’s a good one to follow Sick Boi.
    The pig mask is a recurring theme that pops up in many of his videos. He mostly leaves it up for interpretation, but he did share in an interview with Zach Sang what it means for him. But in addition to the pig representing greed and the medical industry, it also represents his illness, which has been his constant companion for most of his adult life. So it’s hard for him to imagine his life without it.

    Sorry it was so relatable 🫂 Unfortunately it is for a lot of people. And it’s always important to remember that Ren isn’t anti-meds, but he has a big problem with medical professionals just giving pills to treat symptoms or see if anything sticks instead of really listening, understanding, and getting to the root cause of things. Whether incompetence, lack of time and other resources to treat patients properly, or because some care more about big pharmaceutical companies than helping patients, it shouldn’t be like this 😢
    And yes, Ren is so fricking good at performing the song. One reason is that it’s so real for him. But we have also seen him act his ass off in the tales where it’s about other characters’ lives which I think comes down to his immense amount of empathy. He can feel it all and it makes us feel it too. Powerful stuff.

  • @JoeYo77
    @JoeYo77 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

    You’re exactly right I got the vibe from the lady that’s why he says snake oil salesman. I don’t know if you guys are familiar with that term but that’s from the back of the day when traveling door-to-door salesman sell you something that was BS but they would say, oh this will help your headache and it would just be like or flower or something. So snake oil salesman and someone selling you something fake but they’re really sleazy when someone says used car salesman it’s meant in a negative way basically just using you for money. You’re like a guinea pig. The word that you’re looking for is condescending. When you disagree with them and then they say oh that’s because of your condition you disagree with me. The pig mask he has said is basically representing the pain. He’s been through in his life but it’s been there so long that he’s self familiar with it. It’s almost like a friend to him or not a friend but comfortable when he’s around because he’s so used to pain which the pig man represents Heath ledger as the joker. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen that one but Joaquin Phoenix is pretty good too. Jack Nicholson was the best though. The performance in this, and Hi Ren, and money game, part one and three, are all really Oscar worthy to me. Your dad wasn’t making the threat he was making a promise.! That reminds me of some people in my family. I grew up in New York City in a very Italian family if you know you know.. but anyway, your dad went gangster. And lucky for you. He did. And you probably resented your mom for a while for that but it’s really hard when these doctors say so specifically and then a whole group of them come and act so certain, we are programmed to just listen and not question anything it comes from a doctor. so much of this goes in the United States. It’s disgusting my little cousin same thing you’re just talked about is going on with him. He just watches TV and plays video games like 12 hours a day. He hardly talks stairs at the TV he used to be so energetic, running around, but he wouldn’t listen. Probably because of the eight cans of soda a day he was drinking in the shit diet he was on it’s always about money the food companies and the pharmaceutical companies and the hospitals are all in bed with each other and we are the research mice. my grandfather used to say they can’t make any money on somebody that’s healthy! And those words still stick with me today from 25 years ago. It’s so true! they never ever want to address the route issue they just want to treat some of the symptoms so you come back every month pay the bill by medication, etc. it makes sense what you’re saying about the wording when they say “we” that’s getting you to lower your guard that they’re on your side but when you fuck up because of the drugs, they say“you” must have done XYZ. There’s no need to apologize. Lots of us have been there and we appreciate the honesty and passion and that you wear your heart on your sleeve and you’re like an open book. I’ve said this ones before you and Anthony are both very good reactors to me the main differences, you’re more open with your feelings and willing to share them where he’s more closed off and he’s more of the technical side and you’re more of the emotional connective side. Both equally as important, but just different styles.. there are a lot of reactors like Anthony even though he’s very good, that’s why he has so many followers, but there’s not too many like you. So I appreciate that about you and I’m sure there are lots of other listeners that do as well.! Sorry this message is so long.

    This is the whole point of the music, we all need these conversations, they should not be buried or hidden, that is so many of us connect with REN & why we support others who we see really connect too, i fixed myself without medication, not easy & not for everyone but it can be done, we are not broken, but we all need help.

    No need to apologise for expressing your feelings and I’m glad that you connected with this track so much. I find that with so much of Rens work and music. He speaks truths that not many people are saying or want to hear, I.e. our healthcare system, the way we are living in general. His gift is to be able to say all this through amazing music plus when you see the ‘acting’ it’s because he’s showing the reality he’s lived. That was such a good reaction. Your personal connection to the song helped to illuminate it for me. It made me think not only about what happens for the person at the receiving end of mental health services but also for those delivering those services. Someone in another comment talked about mental health workers as sometimes being jaded or burning out and I agree with this. The other thought I had while I was watching the therapist-Ren interaction and you reacting to it was that the therapist was not actually responding to Ren but was saying things (sometimes perhaps repeating a formula) that were to do with wanting to "fix" something in a situation where what needed to be "fixed" remained unknown and was, indeed, mis-recognized. It was the obvious disconnection between Ren and the therapist (and your visceral reaction to it) that got me thinking about how we maybe have become preoccupied with classifying "conditions", sometimes (maybe often) at the expense of understanding the person. And that this sometimes leads to premature closure in terms of exploring what might actually be going on. Another thought was to do with mutual expectations and how uncomfortable we are with not knowing and with being able to say that we don't know. By the way, thank you for your thought-provoking reaction.

    It made perfet sense.It's some kind of using dominance (a power setup, where the patient is an object and the worker is the subject, who sees through him and determines him as his sickness. Not as a whole fellow human being).
    And it's sickening.
    The position of not knowing and being just another human being, lending a hand and space for his internal world to be seen and heard would be a huge advantage.
    He's the (only) one who can know what he feels, thinks and is, and where he wants to go.
    And. It's of no help, if the other one understands what's going on (wheather it's seen right or wrong). The thing that helps is, if he himself gets to understand himself.

    • @sateentuoksu
      @sateentuoksu 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      But no, anti-depressants don't build up a tolerance. Benzodiatsephins and barbiturates do (they are used for anxiety)

    • @sateentuoksu
      @sateentuoksu 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      And I thought in
      "I feel like it's not me, it's the world that's sick
      We're given everything we need and we commoditize it
      We consume, we destroy, like we're parasitic
      Science tells us that it's suicide and still we commit
      I'm not sick, we are sick, we are standing on a cliff
      In the name of progress, we jump off the precipice"
      He's not talking about medication, but the way we live - that makes people sick. As we see what we do to our world, and no one stops it - we just..
      "are standing on a cliff
      In the name of progress, we jump off the precipice"
      People are not separate of the world. You cannot hurt another person, or the nature, without us all hurting and suffering (the consequences).
      If you don't shut your eyes from that, it takes a really stong person to keep ones sanity - in the middle of all this.

    Having worked as licensed MFT in Psych Emergency, I totally understand what you were talking about. In my experience there is a certain level of disconnect within the mental health community, personnel becoming jaded and burned out. The far more dangerous aspect were those professionals who refused to simply take the proper steps and time to diagnose patients and as Eshplume says, simply jump to the easiest and most common diagnosis, often refusing to simply say..."I don't know what exactly is going on with you" and then follow up with proper therapy to acertain what the issue(s) really is. Sadly in the mental health field there is so much pressure to move the patient queue along, due to patient overload, lack of budget, shortage of personnel, etc. This were the issue with medication becomes the problem, it becomes more than just a stop gap for patients when experiencing manic episodes, or severe bouts of depression. The medications become the "Solution" and little else therapeutic wise is done. This is a discussion that needs to happen more often and as a Society we need to recalibrate how mental health is approached and treated. Thank you for the amazing reaction @Eshplume!

    I empathize with you Esh, my heart goes out to you. You're dad sounds like a good father. It took years to finally get doctors to actually treat me like a person instead of $ from insurance, finally got the right diagnoses and right treatments for multiple medical issues. My mental health providers still treated me like a $ sign and cost me my job when it was time to actually correct a wrong of their's that would hurt their income from my insurance. I dropped them and reduced all my meds that I can and am trying to find a mental health provider that actually cares, and a doctor that treats the whole body as one instead of mind and body being separate. My auto-immune disease causes a lot of hormone issues with a lot of overlapping symptoms with mental health conditions I had been diagnosed with for decades. I finally got it figured out after fighting with a bunch of medical professionals to give me the right tests and actually refer me to the right medical specialists, even after the test results came back showing I had conditions that required a specialist. One doctor told me no to a hormone test I requested, he literally said he wouldn't know what to do if those hormones were low... because he knew he would have to refer me to an endocrinologist and lose his insurance money from me as a patient... I finally got referred to an endocrinologist once I needed him to for my prescriptions while finding a better psychiatrist... now that I am on hormone replacement therapy, I don't even know if I need any mental health professionals outside of a therapist because my hormone replacement meds are reducing the majority of my mental health symptoms. The medical industry in the US at least is horrible.

    I always say when drs give you pills like this and say they will see you again in a few weeks, if it’s something bad you know you feel how unsure it all is. I always think, once you are out of that door, that dr doesn’t even consider you, you are forgotten about immediately. They have the next patient, then they go home to their life, the thing they are really concerned about. As you said about your father, he really got it right standing up to the ‘dish out pills and move on to the person’.

I have been on stimulants for my ADD for many years now, and while I know the medication helps tremendously, it also has its own side effects. I also feel like my body builds up a tolerance to it and there is always a need to tinker with it. This means that there is constant instability.

    What I admire in any artist is the ability to verbalize what we as a listener feel and are living on a daily basis. Every one of us have personally dealt with mental health issues whether it be stemming from our own or helping loved ones. Thank you for such an illuminating and passionate reaction
    Ren is obviously very passionate in how he feels about his medical treatment experiences and its so helpful to hear from another person who shares
    in this frustration like so many of us.

    We love when someone reacts from there heart and real emotion. You captured the frustration so many feel on this subject. As an aside, the stem cell transplant helped Ren get back to life and music but it cost a lot. Also, Im sure there were times when he was bitter about why he had to go through it. You should react to Ren's 1 million subscriber defining success video. Many have already. You will get insight into Ren as a person and what his message is.

    This entire video is about how the system that is Capitalism leads to destruction.
    The medical system is caught up in cost structures that it shouldn't be bound in, with even good doctors tied up in bureaucracy and red tape and not allowed to actually devote the time they need to their patients. And bad doctors get a pass to treat patients like parts in an assembly line, throwing the easiest diagnosis and treatment at them to count another tally and move on to the next. He doesn't object to medication as far as I know, and has a handful of pills he takes every day to allow him to function.
    The line about "science tells us that it's suicide and still we commit" is about the destruction of the environment and how the climate is being pushed to change faster due to the activities of humanity. "Rape the Earth of all resources..." etc.

    Don't be sorry😉 , This is what music should do, touch us with different emotions. What is interesting about listening to Ren's music and his story is that millions are relating with it👍 because they went through it too and he opens up the conversation that needs to be had , Great reaction 👏👏

    I love the format you used for this reaction. It's nice to see your reaction to the video/song as a whole, then rewatching and talking about it. It seems much more honest than a lot of reaction channels.
    I live with mental illness, and Ren really speaks to my experiences. Luckily I've never had a therapist who acted this way. The whole situation with the therapist/doctor in this song is my constant fear. Being told what I'm experiencing is 'all in my head' would be devastating. I can't imagine where I would be today had this been my experience when I reached out for help.

    You do exactly what I hope to see any reactor do. You are giving YOUR reaction to an experience. Perfect! Thank you. It is even better when authentic reactions have something in common with my own, which yours does. It helps to know that there are others out there that really do understand.

    I think the word "patronising" suits the way she comes across, quite well.
    I am not sure that Ren really knows himself what the pig represents. Its use and meaning seems to have evolved from ne video to the next. Anyone giving a definitive answer as to the meaning behind the pig has perhaps missed some of the discussions Ren has had around any symbol or significance it holds. I would hazard a guess that now, more than anything else, it means $ to Ren!!!!
