I grew up with this show! I was looking for a "smile" quote today and remembered "A smile is the magic key, to the magic door, to the wonderful magic toy shop!" I googled it - and found this wonderful memory!
Ran across this blast from my 63-year-old past while surfing. And memories exploded, of sitting cross-legged on the living room floor in front of the old black-and-white floor model GE tv, that was topped by aluminum-foiled rabbit ears. My snarky side, ever fine-tuned, said "aw, now this corny clip will be good for a laugh!" But you know, I didn't laugh. It made me smile instead. There really was a time when kids were entertained by things that didn't involve violence, guns, Grand Theft, and sexual imagery. Thanks for posting it.
having been on the show it wasn't badly produced and I sang on it. in fact they used my singing "Summertime" on a lot of shows till I was 25. So can't be all bad. Wish I could get a copy of my singing myself...but they were nice people.
I was on 10 O'clock Scholar about 1958. I was part of Mr. Barbers reading class in Baldwinsville. I could read 1495 WPM with 95% comprehension. I wish there was a clip of that show. Ken Myers
Anyone remember a Syracuse-based show called Pop Hop Dean? It was basically a quiz show about pop music featuring high school students. I was on it around '67 and would pay big bucks for any recording of that!
...er, I meant cream filling. Also, let's not forget the show's memorable opening sequence: merrily and eddy putting their index fingers to their cheeks and saying: The smile is the key. The key to the door. The door to the Magic Toyshop!".
