It was a recorded concert also. But I was there in person and it was a perfect blend . I hear you. What happen to Nokia live? Saw him before at Verizon amphitheater and Hollywood bowl and live in la was the best
But why does he mock those who respect R & B and the "Blues" in his monologue? He exposes he is just a young kid at heart, immature, unnecessarily cocky, and arrogant, and quite frankly, disrespectful to his entire older audience, whether they enjoy the "blues" or not. Jesus, if only these young wunderkind shits would wear an ounce of humility and steer away from the trap of behaving judgmental. Their frame of reference on all subjects, the blues, rock, jazz, etc. is so narrow, so limited to the few years they've been walking the earth, they make a fool of themselves. But, Mayer is a huge talent, and I love his guitar work and the old men he chooses to have on the stage with him when he performs live.....gosh, he's a hypocrite on top of being a condescending prick...what do you know?
@@johnmaer I think he was just mocking the old guys who are not very receptive to anything other than the blues and older music. He wouldn't mock the Blues itself since his whole style was built over it

Its funny how all you guitar players come on here, some talk shit others do the opposite. It just goes to show that he stirs something in all of your souls.
+Anima In the LA concert he was using his customized Strat, and throughout the majority of this concert he uses his Gibson Es-335 - so yes the guitars have different tonalities, but John tends to play a bit more "freely" or jazzy with his hollowbodies in terms of what scales he uses and how he attacks the guitar than when he plays a strat. His cover of I got a woman from this concert is a good example of that
There isn't a ton of reverb on the mix is what I can hear so far. It's a very hot a live mix, especially for Johns guitar and REALLY noticeable on his vocals. The guitar tone sounds a bit thin to my ears too. His lead tone leaves a lot to be desired compared to some of his other shows. And even from an improvisation standpoint, this is lackluster comparatively. He's gotten so much better, which is saying a lot because he's still fantastic here. What I am speaking of hear is all relative to his entire body of work.
I love that he's playing Gibson's custom shop Eric Clapton Crossroads 335 replica. Rare these days and fantastic guitar. I played one in Dallas back in 2006 when they were "just" 10,000 bucks. In my opinion most anything a fender can do a Gibson can do a little bit better.
This kid owns The Blues at such a young age. He's totally at the top with the greats.❤❤😊😊
John is going to be written in the history that’s for sure
BB king would be proud R.I.P
But you do notice he has grown in his blues solo's right? The momentum in the solo of the Live in LA footage is way more exhilarating

Lol, I don’t know if you’re joking or if you’re serious, but I do know your name is John Maer

wonder if that watch is kinetic power. that vibrato would charge it for days

yeah....THAT's why I love the blues. Priceless :-)
Omg... he has gotten so much better since this, wow.
well i would be so happy if i could ever be nearly as good as he is here
I like that Clapton tone he uses for this one.
Fous Matyáš pretty sure he’s using the Clapton signature ES 335 from his Cream days in this
John Mayer the very best!! The king!!!!
Thank you Simon Palmer for posting this.😊
I can only imagine this live 😭😭😭😭😭🔥🔥🔥🔥
"I'm putting you out....(guitar solo).....putting you row-how-ou-owt."
whenever that red gibson comes out
I'm putting you
I'm putting you out of my mind
I'm putting you
I'm putting you right out of my mind
I'm so tired of running after you
One-and-one-half steps behind
Go tell your friends
Go tell your friends what Johnny did
Yeah, go tell your friends
Go tell your friends what Johnny did
If they don't laugh right at you
They just as fucked up as you is
If I don't see you tomorrow
See you another day, I'm sure
If I don't see you tomorrow
See you another day, I'm sure
I'll run into you at your job
You be waiting for me outside the stage door

I'll put you right out of my mind
So tired of chasing after you

Gotta love those palm- era !! Hehe :)

It may just be me. But this song, played on that crossroads 335, is just superior
True. I love the SRV tone that he gets when he plays blues out of the strat, but this song just needs that 335.
6:25 I want those photos
Awsome tone as always!
Love this song by him!
Donna
I couldn't thank you enough!!
he's raking his muted strings with his pick

this has a different feel compared to the la concert. maybe the guitars he used?

The LA crowd was better too. This crowd seems kinda dead IMO.

THE YOUNG WOMAN THAT WON A SHOW WITH YOUR NAME IS MS. AMBER RILEY
Wtf was he talking about at the beginning?
Does it matter at all?
0:30 what's in that water?
the lip lick

Got a PRS silver sky that sounds juicy af. But agree that nothing can beat the attack of a Gibson
no he means the background noise. sounds like a guy going "YYEEAAA!" in a scratchy, obnoxious tone.
and it sounds like a guy screaming yeah hahaha
what about it?
Lol his whistle..he's so funny
2:46 2:46 2:46 2:46 2:46
wtf is the noise at 01:46?
Ross Coburn raking ur strings. Must NOT be a guitar player as most of his fans obviously are not.
@@coffeewaldo he is talking about the guy who said “hey”
@@coffeewaldo 💁🏽♂️
george benson much?
335 (y)
what year was this?
good! not the best,good!
Is he playing a 335 or a 339 here?
It kind of looks like the Midtown Custom, just based on the rectangle inlays and the little design on the headstock
Nevermind... way different headstock design
Its a clapton crossroads es 335 which is based on claptons 1964 es 335
It’s a 335 he‘s just really tall :D
It's the same tone for his strat, but it doesn't sound that great on those humbuckers. In agree.
Once John stops yapping you can almost tolerate him. (btw, I came here for Steve and Pino, sorry, Johnny fans.)
obvious troll is obvious
MsAdesio barely.
Amazing guitar player to say the least!
Haha funny
He's just not very good. It's a bedroom performance. No depth. Like an AI playing blues.
