Ah!!! Don Alfredo, a singing master class!!!. He was the best of the best!!!.And Edelmiro Arnaltes was his perfect companion. When I studied with them and Suso Mariategui at Santander Spain in year 1996 and then with Don Alfredo in Madrid, I started to discover what "bel canto" meant. Sadly it took me a long illness to understood it. Now in my comeback, I remember with joy and mellow, those wonderful years. Gracias Don Alfredo!!!!!!
That is a master of this art. Few times a have seen and heard Mr. Kraus meaning so much what he is saying. The musical differences with each phrase, everithing has a dramatic and musical meaning. To talk about his technique would be redundant. I have heard this piece so many times one after another, and each time I have been moved. Thanks.
i sang this once in a competition when i was 21.. its my favorite amongst the songs that i sang in the competition.. hearing kraus sing this song.. damn.. i compared it with mine.. mine was miles away from his singing.. he is so wonderful.. Kraus Forever!
@neelsdp1 Dear friend, if you mean "nuance" term, in order to describe that he did not ussed his voice in full power everytime?, of course, he managed to use the exact amount he needed; he did so in order to achieve historical performances of very difficult roles, without hurting his voice. It is well known he never cancelled, or said by his doctor, never had any vocal problems. He was one of the best of all times.

@tenorschofield is it correct to say that Alfredo Kraus understood and practised nuance to the fullest extent possible? his voice has so much colour i'm astounded everytime i listen to him and in awe.. .I'm no expert but i think maybe?
This is the essence of perfect technique, to be able to always keep it in the mask, and out of the throat. If you want to lose your voice you should not sing completely int he mask.

Además Kraus no tenia bonita voz..

@Gary2837
I know the feeling. But i know where i've been: listening to '3 tenors' and consequently thinking that operatic singing sucks.
Ĺ
Beautiful voice, as usual. But Herr Kraus has GOT to slow it down. Too "un"musical. Yeesh.

Fea para usted. Me parece una voz bellísima. Timbrada. Canto expresivo. Il piu grande
Oreja sucia.
