Thank you this has helped so much! The tome at times can be confusing if you miss interpret something, and sometimes I need a better visual this has really helped me as a new player to this game. I see people have already requested more, which is what I was about to do. Thank you so much for this, video guides are very, very helpful and I will now see if you have any other guides to this game as you went at a slower pace than others which is my pace, I'm not a super quick learner. So once again thank you and please keep it up!
Thank you for making this video. so much more helpful than the ingame "tutorial." . I can only read so much before I get more confused or sleepy :p. I am a visual learner. Your video is a great help.
Thanks! I hope you found it useful. I know a few others who were having some problems tackling the game's initial learning curve, as well. There isn't even really a manual (other than the incredible Tome of Wonders, which does contain all the info you would ever need, but you have to know to look for it), which is a shame. A terrific game, thankfully everyone and their dog is doing Let's Plays, so there are lots of ways to sort of tap into the hive-mind and figure out how to succeed at AoW3.
Did you play AOW 1? I bought this on the hope it would be just a better, graphically updated version of AOW1, but it seems WAY more complex, So i was just wondering how you would compare this to the original...if you have played the original....
***** That's not too far off - the real draw is the tactical combat (CiV combat is just units bumping into each other on the map, for example) and the depth of managing your empire and your resources while clearing out tombs, bandit camps, neutral cities, and the like.
Scott Lufkin I kinda want to try a game like this but I'm new to the genre (4x, turn-based, strategy combat, etc). Have you played Endless Legends? From what I've seen its quite similar to this game. Which one should I go for?
***** I personally prefer AoW - it's got a lot more going on per turn and you are presented with more, and more varied tactical and strategic considerations as the game progresses. Endless Legend, last time I played it, needed some work in the AI department, as well. I see EL is free this weekend on Steam though, so might be worth checking out - a lot of folks really like it.
***** I would say there very different civ is about slow paced strategic thinking as you build a country and age of wonders 3 is about the awesome combat, as the building thing is much less complicated and war is practically a every turn thing by mid the game.
Great overview and I've watched a bunch.

Thx man, I'm usually too impatient to learn games like this but you explained it in good detail so I think I might really get into this.
Best immediately useful tutorial I've found on this game, thanks.
+rush414 Thanks so much! I'm glad you found it helpful; I love AoW3 and always like hearing about others getting into it as well.

Good clear video Scott Lufkin, you've got to love the speed setting option for videos like this, turns a 30min video into about 5mins lol
Thanks alot for taking the time to make a tutorial, given me alot of insight into this game.
Great tutorial! Just bought the game, gonna play it when I get home but now I can jump right in :-)

So... Age of Wonders 3 is basically a Civ game, except its more focused on battles and RPG aspects? Is that correct?
