    I built boats in Vietnam and had the fortune of working with artisans like this and using, in my opinion, the finest teak in the world.
    You rarely, if ever, find an ornate staircase like that in the USA, and if you do, it would have been produced on a cnc, not by hand.
    Frankly, a staircase bought in component form from a DIY centre in USA and installed by someone that knows how to use a drill and a hammer is incomparable.

      Well, it's a cost thing. There are still craftsmen capable of the work, but nobody's willing to pay the enormous costs associated with the time involved. Becoming that way in all the western nations. That's the reason architecture is not _nearly_ as beautiful now as it was in days gone by.

    In Canada the maximum spacing between spindles is 4" (100 mm) and they must be designed to prevent climbing. All treads must be equal width and all risers must be the same height. This applys to residential stairs. Industrial building code allows for other standards.

    • @utube1818
      @utube1818 ปีที่แล้ว

      There was no protection period, the marble should be protected, the weights that they used on the treads should have padding on the underneath, the stair treads should have been protected. As a French Polisher it drives me mad when I see polished items been walked on while the place is still a building site.

      These are workers who do not mind the jobs most avoid. They have probably calculated that re-sanding and re-treating (which they'd have to do with all the joins anyway) is easier than being hampered by dust sheets (dangerous and and a pain on such surfaces) or covering every inch with protector (also a pain and easily scratched through anyway). Or, just maybe, they bugger off next week and leave it for the decorators to sort out!

      @@dongdoan7596 my guess, the dude walked with boiling tar on flip flops, no gloves just some towels to hold it. But why do they use tar?
      I'm just wondering why they already install wooden stairs, when they house seems still in finishing phase. Meaning constucts work around, i would never get that installed you untill the last detail and all rough work had been done

      @@RomboutVersluijs right, or at least keep some kind of thick paper or plastic wrap on the top of the stairs till construction finishes. Or don’t have the stairs already sanded and stained, and wait till the end.

      It’s hard to know what your reason is for saying that it’s a train wreck. That balustrade is lovely , and the entire staircase is really nice .

      Think about it. Then there would be all kinds of ugly nail holes to plug.
