Nice step by step video. Read from comments from other video that the shut-off valve needs to be in the full open position for stem to come out easily. Once it is out, use flash light to check any ripped pieces of gasket and get them out before putting in the new stem. Both worked during the stem replacement.

I was able to fully replace several 1/2 inch threaded water valves in my home without any issues BUT two valves were soldered in and I did not have the equipment nor a torch🤣 So I replaced the stem and it worked!!! All of my water valves were over 15 years old and were not shutting the water off at the site. I had to shut the water main whenever I had to replace anything... a faucet, a toilet, a water filter, an appliance water hose etc... Today, this video helped me replaced water valves that were soldered! So grateful!🙏🏼

I just fixed one of my toilets with this fix, it was as easy as this video shows. Thank you for this very helpful information. Please make sure your water main is turned off, and also, run all of the water out of your faucets before you do this job.
At 2:42 that stuff is not a broken washer. It is scale. The old washer is still on the end of the brass stem. It is likely that the old washer would have worked just fine once you removed the scale.
Turn off your main water supply. It's located at the water meter or near the house where the water line enters your home. It may be inside your house, usually in the utility room. I recommend you remove the valve and take it with you when you buy a new one. Not all water valves use the same type. You may need to write the info on the water valve and take that with you. I hope this helps you.
I want to do this fix on my valves, but I'm worried something might go wrong and I'll be forced to leave the main water line shut off and I won't be able to use water in the house. Is there any chance something might go wrong by doing this fix? What would you rate the success rate of doing this repair?

I did. The main water shut-off valve was very hard to turn and was buried under a large amount of dirt. I went to the Home Depot irrigation section and bought a unique tool. It has a 'T' shaped end and a 'U' shaped end to turn the valve. The device is about three feet long, so you can stand up when using it. Plumbers use this type of tool. Check near your house, as you might have a shut-off valve in your utility room or where your water line enters the house. Hope this helps.
The valve I have is horizontal, and the problem is is that it won't shut off completely. It is not leaking. Will this repair work for that? By horizontal I mean that the hose is connected at a right angle.
It was not smooth for another problematic shut-off valve. After replacing the stem kit, it still leaks around the packing nut. I applied silicon grease and Teflon tape on the threads and tightened the packing nut a few times. Had done it 2 times already. Any suggestions?
Nope. The seal is from compression on the washer. The threads merely serve to tighten the packing nut. If the washer leaks, even if you used tape, the water will drip out of the stem hole of the packing nut.
Sorry, but the actual water control device inside may be faulty. If that's the case, you will need to replace the entire valve, and, as you know, plumbers are costly to hire.
Liked the video. Product 👎🏼 Self-tapping screw stripped in stem. Knob spun on stem. It's a 53 yr old valve. It needs to be replaced. Seriously though... wonderful directions. 👍🏼 👍🏼
My kitchen sink valve is leaking and old, I don't wanna cut the whole pipe to replace for a new one so the issue is the washer, I hope home depot still have them.

But like a dummy I ended up with a boyfriend and now he is all over me when I'm trying to fix my own house like I'm bothering him and why don't I just call the plumber and he just seems so lame to me that he'd just have people come and do everything..... ok. I know that's not what this video is about.. I really appreciate the information though
Please take this advice. You can find a new boyfriend that is DIY-rated. A boyfriend like him is your problem and not worth keeping. There is a lot of fish in the water. Go fishing.

The packing nut has a washer too. That must need replacing too.
What was that replacement kit called? I just discovered this exact leak trying to cut the water off to fix a filler valve in my toilet tank.

yes you can if you can find the correct o ring... it was cheaper for me to just buy the whole stem...

Same problem here. I unscrewed the stem nut, and the knob can off with the stem. Make sure that your replacement comes with a new knob.
