Frank Sinatra - Don't Worry 'Bout Me (Live)
(Live in Las Vegas, May 1978)
    Don't worry 'bout me
    I'll get along
    Forget about me
    Be happy, my love
Let's say that our little show is over
    And so the story ends
Why not call it a day the sensible way
    And still be friends
    Look out for yourself
    Should always be the rule
Give your heart and your love to whom ever you love
    Don't you be a fool
Darlin', why stop to cling to some fading thing
    That used to be
    If you can't forget
    Don't you worry 'bout me
Baby, why should you cling to some fading thing
    That used to be
    If you can't forget
    Don't you worry 'bout me

I am so happy that I grew up with The Great Frank Sinatra in my life. He is a TREASURE! I'll never forget all his in person shows that I saw and the one time that I was close enough to shake his hand! Thanks for the memories, Frank. There will never be another who could ever replace him! 💜😪

I'm a musician and have sung this song with rote memory so many times as a performer but at home, playing my piano and singing, it brings tears to my eyes because I feel the words and it hurts because I can relate to it. So many people out there related to Sinatra's songs because he sang them with the emotion they required, and he'd been there and knew the real feelings the songs told about with love and loss.)
    DON'T WORRY 'BOUT ME

(A favorite song of mine from way back! No one sings it better than Francis Albert Sinatra, he's simply the ultimate, and over 150 million records of his work sold all over the world, says I'm right!)
And the orchestra with this performance is absolutely superb!

Frank always sang unrequited love songs with his whole heart. If you love this song, I think you'd love 'I Get Along Without You Very Well." Fair warning: it will break your heart in two. And 'Over and Over--the World We Knew' makes my heart ache every time.

i've always loved this song, but when the orchestra's trumpet section comes in for the interlude at 2:03, it just gives me shivers it's so thrilling! Frank says "oh that's nice" and it certainly was -- just fabulous! Billy May's arrangement is great and this large orchestra does it justice.
I saw FS perform many times, and he truly was "The Voice" of the 20th Century, and maybe beyond, because there was no one like him before and hasn't been after. He had it all, range, perfect pitch, phrasing, breath control, emotion in his voice where it was appropriate, just perfect -- a singer's singer, that's for certain.
I can't believe he left us 25 years ago, but he IS STILL ALIVE with all the recordings and videos that he left for us to enjoy, in perpetuity!

  • @mjlejer3241

Just fabulous! I saw him sing this song more than once, it's a classic that he enjoyed singing, and a favorite of mine!

Wow, FS is perfect as usual, but listen to that orchestra on the interlude! Even Frank said "that's nice" at the end of the interlude. I prefer FS's recording on this great old song, rather than his concert performances, but then, you only have one chance at concert, and Frank was an avid perfectionist, so at recordings, he made sure his performance was perfect! I was lucky to be at several recordings, and I saw what he demanded from the orchestra, which was only right! His arrangers were always superb also, Billy May, Nelson Riddle, whom he worked with so long, Gordon Jenkins, and of course Quincy Jones. They all gave us some of the best music ever performed by anyone in the music business!

Sinatra was pissed as soon as the song started. The arrangement was so slow. Sinatra tried to speed them up. He glared back and used hand motions to get them going. It failed. So he changed his vocal to suit. That was terrible. Sinatra probably ripped them. As a pro. Singer. I sure would of. Nicely. 😎

1.) He starts off off-key. (I don't know how many times I told him not to do that!")
2.) The band is way too loud.
3.) He did a much better job of the same song 10 years previous with the Count Basie band -- th-cam.com/video/33Rz6ZHvbKw/w-d-xo.html -- with at the end of the song, Sinatra gets a heartfelt, well-deserved ovation.
4.) At about a minute into the song he turns to someone behind him and says, "What?" . ... What the hell is that all about? ... This is supposed to be a serious song, not a song that you goose Sammy David Jr. while you're singing it. ... Sinatra once took his son Frank Jr. aside and scolded him for being unprofessional during a particular performance, this deserves the same indictment.
5.) These gestures he keeps making ... imitating an Italian, as if to say, "Hey, what do you mean?" ... they get old and, beyond that, they indicate a certain level of self-consciousness, instead of what the song requires, that is to say, the song requires the singer to "get lost in its emotion" -- something Sinatra did in the previously mentioned 1966 performance of the song with Count Basie at The Sands.
Sinatra's move from The Sands to Caesar's Palace coincided was a noticeable change his voice, from what it had been in his prime to what it had become by 1978. Later on, as the range and emotional power of his voice diminished, he started playing large venue gigs where the sheer volume of the sound and the immensity of the crowd gave him an excuse for not having to be intimate and subtle; impossible in such venues.
The coda of his career was the sad spectacle of his singing long after he should have quit. All it did was subtract from the generosity and virtuosity with which he offered his voice when he actually WAS Frank Sinatra.
I think there was a point in Sinatra's career, probably when he announced his retirement in 1973 (later to change his mind) when he just did't care anymore about the music but instead kept performing for nothing more than the power and ego gratification it gave him.
Contrast that with performers such as Louis Armstrong, Sammy Davis Jr., Mel Torme, Billie Holiday and others who loved and respected the music up until their last performance, savoring the opportunity to perform right up to the end. That was certainly not the case with Sinatra.
As the years caught up with him, his performances consisted of a handful of songs he had sung millions of times; never branching out, never straying from his standard, predictable menu of Sinatra Standards; knowing that no matter how compromised his voice, how indifferent he was to the music itself, the huge crowds would go crazy no matter what.
Judy Garland, Sammy Davis Jr and Louis Armstrong just about died onstage, they genuinely loved the music and genuinely loved their audiences, wanting to please them to the very end. Not so with Sinatra. Rather, the audience was required to settle for a Lesser Sinatra, the focus being on Sinatra and not the music he had made so appealing.
Sinatra would kid Sammy Davis Jr. onstage when The Rat Pack was in its prime: _"Get off the stage, Sammy!"_ ... Sadly, Sinatra should have given himself the same advice long before his final performance.

      Many lies, in here...
Until Frank's end, he always gave what he could, what he had, that is, "so much feeling". Two things he never lost for sure: swing and emotion.

I know exactly what you mean, and I knew you were going to take some hits from the worshippers who think that he could do no wrong. It's why I always preferred his work in the studio where he was more sober, serious and a perfectionist. His voice was never the same and had deteriorated when he made his comeback in '73. Having said that there were times, particularly in the Trilogy album and in the early '80's when he rallied himself and seemed to turn back time. Here he seems really off and almost embarrassingly distracted. And I agree with you about the hand movements - just annoying.

@@thomasleary2814 Correct. He sang off key here a LOT....almost through the whole song. He seems drunk or on some pills/uppers. Yes, he is distracted and he seems a caricature of himself. Not a good version/perfornance. It's all over the place, just unfocused and lacking real deep emotion the song demands. Frank's emotion here is not in line with the song/lyrics. He just seems pepped up....good time party with the crowd and band through the duration of the song. A bit sad actually.
