    Great information and very much in the true amateur spirit of, experimenting, observing and learning, hands on'!
    Thanks Peter for sharing your findings with us.

    Thanks for the info on the reverse bacon. Please continue supplying different aspects of ham radio. I enjoy the video that you have produced so far. I would love to see you do some more on different portable vertical and horizontal antennas. 73 AE4OY WILLIAM Peacock EM-81UF

    Great vid Peter, equally shows the advantages of CW! Certainly terrain changes propagation and considering your antenna system you’ve done great. Over the years I’ve learnt that anything is possible if your prepared to be patient and change bands. As you say time of day and night is equally critical. Thanks for posting. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

    This was interesting, Peter. Now, if I can figure out how to get my FT 710 to produce a CW signal (because I do not do CW), I'll try this out. I live in a valley here in northern Nevada stateside and would like to see how this works. Btw, I loved the view out your window. Ships and mountains - ya can't beat it. 😊

      All you need to learn is how to send Test followed by your call sign.

    I believe a certain amount of refraction by the higher terrain also takes place, personal observation. A 10,000+ mountain was between me and Phoenix, AZ, a distance of some 180 miles. Pinaleno Mountain was about 5+ miles west of me, Safford, AZ at the time. I built a simple corner reflector and aimed west towards Phoenix. I picked up FM radio all across the band. When I called in a request, the DJ was amazed when I told him my location.

      Nice to get your comments. I was only a visitor so not much experience on mountains. But interesting to hear your results. 73s Peter.

    Great video again. Tnx a lot. Btw, if you don't want to start a qso in cw accidentally :-) you can send test instead of cq. How does the AX-1 runs (for you) I think of getting one. 73, Stephan, DF6PA

    In the UK a "mountain" is officially 2000 ft a.s.l. or higher.....any lower and its a hill (sorry, couldn't resist that) :-)
    "In the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, a mountain is usually defined as any summit at least 2,000 feet (610 m) high, which accords with the official UK government's definition that a mountain, for the purposes of access, is a summit of 2,000 feet (610 m) or higher"
    (Wikipedia).

    Another reason it may be that you get more statians than Europeans may be that the statians seem to be on the radio more.

    CQ CQ CQ then "DE" then Call Sign ?
    My question is : should we put "DE" before the Call sign ? and Why "DE" .. what does it mean ?

    • @watersstanton
      @watersstanton  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My understanding it is the abbreviation for “from”

    Using an azimuth map is the best way to see which direction your signal needs to go to get to another point on the earth. From Scotland, the U.S. and Canada are North West rather than straight West. You can make a map for your location here: ns6t.net/azimuth/azimuth.html
