    Another great video Sven. 22 catches is a lot, I have to check out that pier if I ever head go to Texas. Waiting for day 2 to come out. Keep it up.

      Thanks for watching John :D it was crazy how many fish we caught in such a short period of time! Horace Caldwell Pier is definitely my favorite spot to fish in Texas as of right now 😂. I’ll give you a hint for day 2, it’ll be at the jetties and there is a quick catch and cook as well c:

    texas has some of the craziest saltwater fishing on earth.. pigfish city (and don't believe the haters, pigfish are delicious)

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I was about to say, Amber and I thought they looked like they would be tasty but everyone we asked said they tasted like dirt or mud. I guess that’s a “don’t knock it till you tried it” situation 😂, maybe how you cook it will help, do you have any recommendations for next time? :D

    • @werftv4580

      @@SvenGoesFishing pigfish are in the grunt family, as near as I know. Grunts are widely eaten across the world, so I mean..

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yeah that’s what I thought too, they even look like good eating fish haha. The people saying pigfish don’t taste good probably haven’t had a good recipe with them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    Good video .. That's my home area .. Next time try the jetty there and short drive to packery channel. Congratulations on subs.

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Thanks for watching El Vulture :D I actually did try the jetty, still with the same bait and wait with shrimp 😂 I only caught a bunch of hardhead catfish and some pigfish but another sun mentioned that a lot of the game fish out there would rather go for other stuff like lures and jigs rather than dead shrimp (which is usually pretty good over in California). Next time I’m out there on the jetty I’ll give that a shot, it would make for a more interesting video as well c: 👌🎣

    • @carlos12374

      Next time when catch peggy perch or those atlantic kingfish aka Whiting use them for cut bait and black tip shark will hit it and those whiting fish are great eating .. Also saw you caught sandtrout also great eater fish .

    • @carlos12374
      @carlos12374 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      At the jetty I throw 2oz to 30z spoons and a lot xraps ,DoA shirimp . check out thresher fishing channel his from the area and gots a lot of videos of the area fishing and how we fish there..

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Ahh so it was a sand trout, that one was the only fish I caught on squid the entire time I was in the area 😂 good to know. I know you can use fish like the piggy perch as cut bait but iono, that’s not for me. I think I like fish too much, even if they’re good bait fish people don’t normally care for (I’m cool with using like anchovies or sardines though). In Cali, we have blue rockfish (great eating fish when they’re big) that don’t have a size limit so people like to use them for lingcod or even bigger rockfish, I always let them go though ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Sounds good, I’ll check out the channel to see how they do things, maybe I’ll try it but who knows, will definitely spoons and lures though!

    Hey man this video popped up on my feeds and great video all those fish you caught are really good bait fish except the hard heads “catfish” watch out cause they got some sharp barbs on them and they hurt but all the other ones are great baits. The two sand trouts are delicious to eat. We got so many types of fish out here with the right bait and gear you can fight some strong fun fish. Next visit I recommend getting a guide to take you guys out. Especially to do some kayak fishing we have guides for that as well.

      Sounds good :D Amber and I are definitely planning to come back to Texas eventually, the fishing was really fun and the bbq was already a good enough reason to want to come back 😂 this trip was the first we went so we wanted to stick with simple fishing to test the waters, definitely going to try new things when we’re back :D thanks for watching Redtail Rebel c: 👌🎣

      Texas was very fun :D lots of fish for sure! But nothing beats California fishing, I actually went out today to do some fishing and it just felt more at home, figuratively and literally lol. Sounds good Mr. Fish! You can DM me on Instagram, rly wish TH-cam would implement a DM system though. You could also send me an email that’s on my channel page if that works better for you too c:

      That I’m not 100% sure, the sign says the passes expire at 5 am. But when I was leaving in the late afternoon, the gate to enter was left open. Is Bob Hall another fishing pier? I’ll have to check it out next time I’m back in Port Aransas :D Thanks for watching Quantum Aquatic c: 👌🎣

    Enjoyed your video. Those pigfish are in the Grunt family they are really good with Louisiana fish fry mix or their Cajun fish fry mix. They really are good eating. You can tell once you fillet them good firm flesh not oily tasting or an aftertaste.

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Glad you enjoyed the video :D I’m excited to try a pigfish catch and cook the next time I’m there, a lot of people have been telling me that they’re good eats so I was mistaken. I think the unfortunate part was when I asked some people fishing next to me how the food value was for the pigfish, they told me it’s not good and that they taste like mud so I inadvertently assumed they were bad :( a missed opportunity I’m hoping to fix the next time I’m in Texas. Thanks for watching Marcus c:👌🎣

      Fyi, the Packery Channel can hold some Pigfish. I like the southside of the channel I find that I can catch the most in late fall/winter especially during the Sheepshead run.

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the heads up :D actually while my wife and I were there, we were trying to catch some Sheepshead but we weren’t able to, what bait would you recommend and/ or best time to go for them?

    • @marcusramirez8486
      @marcusramirez8486 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@SvenGoesFishing I have good luck with shrimp on a small hook like an Octopus beak hook in a 2/0 or 1/0 sometimes I will use a 3/0. Usually the winter months are effective. It all depends when we start getting cooler down here. If you can get them, fiddled crabs work well also. Best time for me is Jan, Feb,early March. Several techniques can be involved. It all depends where you fish.

    • @SvenGoesFishing
      @SvenGoesFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sounds good, thanks for the info, I was using shrimp when I was there but none of the Sheepshead were biting. I’ll give it a shot again when I’m there :D
