Similar to the fabled "...in a band before Wings" question.
Back in the early '80s, I bought a copy of Wings Greatest Hits at a Target. The young girl checking me out said "Hmm, Wings, I never heard of them." I said "It's Paul McCartney! He used to be in the Beatles!" She's getting aggravated now. "I KNOW who Paul McCartney is. What? Was this a band he was in before the Beatles?"

I raised my now 26 year old daughter on the Beatles. Growing up when I’d drive her around in the car I’d quiz her on which Beatle was singing what song, and she got really really good at that. And then she went away to college and when she came home for Christmas she couldn’t get even ONE RIGHT. After her last failed attempt I told her she just cannot go thru life thinking that particular skill is unimportant. She just shrugged. HOWEVER... I used to watch her best friend after school since they both were 3 years old and the friend is the one who picked up on my love of the Beatles. And the friend has already made sure her 4 year old got the bug too .So life is good haha.

The Beatles are the Mozarts and Bachs of the Twentieth century. There were none that could compare with their songwriting talents. Their musicianship was average, but their innovation was stratospheric. Their imagery, melody, and harmonic sensibilities went unmatched and most will say still are until this day.

Billie Eilish said Happiness is a Warm Gun is the first song she ever performed in front of people at her school. lol --- The was inspired when John Lennon was at a magazine stand and he saw a gun magazine that said, "Happiness is a Warm Gun". Where that slogan came from is from Peanuts, Snoopy & Charlie Brown. Charles Schultz who created Peanuts came up with the slogan "Happiness is a Warm Puppy" referring to Snoopy and that slogan became popular and got used in different ways. This a John Lennon song and he sings the main vocals and the rest of The Beatles sing backup vocals.

The Beatles suddenly became so big in the 63, 64 and 65. Beatlemania appeared. They had their unbelievable fame and success globally and they could have just stuck to what they did at the moment and enjoyed life, but they didn't. I'm really really really glad they didn't. They kept learning, exploring and evolving in their music. Their music grew, so did their fans, who have learned to appreciate better music

Love how John incorporated sexual references so seamlessly. If memory serves me correctly, there is like ten time changes! This is the song that helped to save the Beatles! With all the tension during the White Album sessions. Interestingly, the song wasn’t complete. John was suffering from so many continuous hours playing the guitar, he was finding it hard to play...having to settle on what we know, not what he was aiming for!

The lyrics to this song are so strong; This was John's reaction, to seeing an advert in a US magazine, that read... "Get ready for the Long Hot Summer, Happiness is a Warm Gun"... The idea that having a gun, to kill people would make you happy, stayed with john..... I also use to wonder how john knew, about working overtime, while in a dream, "lying with his eyes, while his hands are busy working overtime".... And; "Multicoloured Mirrors on his hobnail boots".... the fashion of putting an extra shine on your boots, Military style..... Before we even talk about the guitar.......

HazeBruv ... you are just describing the phenomenon that the Beatles are from the sky with diamonds even w/o a Lucy. I am old already but it makes me warm that young ppl still detect this very thing. I am happy that I was on a Macca-Concert in Hamburg in 2003. I am unhappy that I never could see Lennon. - If you are interested: They often are compared with Franz Schubert, who only reached 31 years (1797-1828). But he wrote incredible stuff, too.

I really liked the inspiration for this song. I don't think I fully understand everything this song does as it seems to go into a few different topics but it was inspired by a bit of culture shock they experienced while in the US. They were seated in the waiting room of a music studio looking at magazines when John was struck by the cover of a gun enthusiast magazine that featured a Father and Son smiling at a shooting range and read "Happiness is a warm gun". Although the idea of a Father teaching a Son to use a firearm and bonding over it is or at least was normal in American culture it was a foreign concept to them.
