    Thanks for watching! What artist has inspired you the most when it comes to painting skies?

      I was inspired by Ron Ranson. I just fell smitten with his skies! Rough and gentle at the same time. He’s been an influence on my art for years.

    Nice of you to mention other artists to help people along their journey of learning, but you play second fiddle to no one IMO. Your work is fantastic, and the way you express your thoughts as you go is very helpful. Thank you!

    Hi M White, thanks for this. I've watched loads of sky and cloud painting videos, and often they go too fast and skip and explanations, making them too confusing to be of help to me. You did a fabulous tutorial!

    That was a lovely explanation -thank you. I’m Really New to watercolouring or any art come to that so am eager to soak up all these videos like pigment on paper. I like your calm delivery, your smooth (?) painting style, and your skilful editing. Plenty of Details for me to learn but no distractions or faffing about. Well done you. Now to the next one . . . .

    Such a lovely exercise! I did this four times in a row. In my version I first made the paper wetc and it created very nice, dreamy clouds. Thank you for this amazing video!

    What a well-thought out demo!! Really some great tips and context. I find the urge to “fiddle” at this stage, so I tell myself stay wet or stay dry. Like a pool, you’re either in or out. Still, this is a very hard stage for me! Also, thanks for the 3 names of the artists you admire for their skies. I’m going to check them out. Thanks again for the video.

    I recall and refer to Rowland Hilder's statement " Paint a sky a day and you'll be a master of skies in a year " He would often paint his sky mass several values darker than his land masses and in many colours other than a collective cliche of blues - A great deal can be learned from his work - particularly if your a tonalist ! Best wishes & Happy painting 🙏

    Yes, challenging. Thanks. I am dedicated to learn. I see that most artists don’t seem to use a reference photo for skies. I am stuck with not knowing where to go with the intuitive. Struggling. But never say, “Die”!

    Hey, I don't know if other amateur watercolor artists have experienced this - at times you realize that you are better that the artist in the video! Not an ego trip! Just an honest expression of opinion!

      I'm sure many painters are much better than I am. Always more to learn.

    This was the first one of your videos that I have had the pleasure to watch and I absolutely enjoyed. The sky turned out so atmospheric and stunning! I have a few favorite sky painters.. Alan Owens and Dave Usher Are two of my favorite men. They both paint similar to the way that the amazing Ron Ranson painted. Their skies always look so complex, yet they have them painted in about two minutes or less most of the time. My favorite female is Kateri Ewing. Her skies are always so interesting and almost abstract at times but my absolute favorite! I look forward to watching your future and last videos and learning about your watercolor techniques and style. Have a beautiful week. Much Respect from North Carolina, Stacy

    Thanks for continuing on and adding the water. I would struggle to "sacrifice" the paper to play with skies, but you made it totally worth it with that little extra. It upped the motivation level to go try it :) Thank you!

    I just discovered your channel and I love the techniques you’re teaching, so thank you!
    So, would writing the paper on both sides be beneficial when painting skies and clouds?

  • @ali081483

    Thank you for starting a channel! Watercolor is a difficult for medium for me and I tend to overwork. The tones and atmosphere you achieve in your paintings are stunning so I’m stoked to see how you achieve this. Also video is excellent ASMR material 👍

    • @learntopaintwatercolor
      @learntopaintwatercolor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alexis Marino thanks for watching and for the kind words! I appreciate it. Watercolor is a challenging medium and I still struggle to not overwork things myself. The key I think is to just keep coming back to try again.

    Hi Matthew, can you talk about the rationale for the masking tape, and I assume you're painting is flat, or the water and paint would run down the page?

    • @learntopaintwatercolor
      @learntopaintwatercolor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to paint at more of an angle and not pre wet my paper like I do now. So taping it down kept it in place for me. Now that I pre wet both sides of my paper it lays flat and I don’t need tape.
