  • In this episode of my series “Walks in Dorset”, I take a 6 mile walk from the village of Puncknowle which is located 5 miles East of Bridport & about 12 miles West of Dorchester. Once again I am accompanied by my Whippet, Logan.
I parked my car at Puncknowle and had a quick wander through the village, paying a visit to the Church of St Mary which was described by Sir Frederick Treves, in1906, as “curious & interesting”.
Next to the church is the magnificent Manor house, which Treves described as “one of the most beautiful of Manor houses in the county”.
I then headed out of the village, South & uphill, on a footpath towards The Knoll at which point a took a small detour to explore the derelict “lookout”building at the top of the hill.
My route then took me Eastwards to join up with a section of the South West Coast Path and then on to the impressive Abbotsbury Castle Iron Age Hillfort where there were some amazing views to enjoy.
I then headed North along a track to my next destination - a short detour into Chapel Coppice to explore the enchanting derelict remains of the Medieval Chapel of St Luke.
My final leg of my walk took me initially to Park's Dairy House Farm & then on to Looke Farm before following a quiet country lane back to Puncknowle.
My walk was completed with light refreshment taken at the Crown Inn in the village.
