Having been to Iran multiple times over the past few years, I’ve never come acriss across a single Iranian who cares the this guy, his daddy or any shah to come back. They don’t like their current govt, but the idea that they wanted to be invaded, overthrown or have a western forced regime change is laughable. PBD might speak Farsi but he doesn’t know internal Iranian society as it stands today. The country is conservative by nature. Majority of the country is rural and outside of Tehran and Shiraz and Esfahan. This conversation is a joke and is not reflective of real Iranian sentiments.

At the same time Russia is too deep into the war game in Iran and China has invested into too many big projects.

The regime change op in Iran is made out to be for the Iranian people, but it is really for Israel. Saudi Arabia is just as repressive but they play along with Israel and the U.S. in the region. A regime change war would do to Iran what was done to Syria, Iraq, and Libya. Failed states with hundreds of thousands of corpses, but Patrick and especially the comment section, are clueless to that.

Very true. The sad truth is that it is the social fabric of Iran that has kept the mullahs in power. Of course the government is absolutely terrible, illegitimate and corrupt, but that does not mean people are ready to embrace democracy or will do well if the government is toppled. All you need to do to see this is to look at everyday social interactions, like how people drive or how they conduct business in Iran. This may seem trivial or irrelevant, but it is in fact a great marker to determine whether the people are united and capable of establishing a well functioning government. And as Iranian, I can say confidently that the answer to that question is a big no. Of course we can't say what will happen to Iran after a government collapse, but I don't believe it will be any better than what has happened to Iraq, Libia, etc.

Precisely. They want to colonise Iran and bring liberalism and nihilism to Iran. And unleash the dormant degeneracy within people and present that as freedom.
They want Iran to kneel. But the cycle of oppression will always continue in that land. Central authority will require imposing their power with violence. Whether that's a king, a clergy, a democracy or military dictatorship.

As a little boy, the son of an Indian diplomat, I was in Iran during the revolution. I was there 1977, 1978, 1979 because my father was posted there for 3 years. I was 5 years old and went to school with my 11 year old sister using public transportation. A lot of the times, we got caught in the middle of the riots. One time, we were surrounded by men who wanted to cut my mother with a blade laced with poison as she was wearing a Sari. The shopkeepers saved us. At that time the war with Saddam Hussein also started. I remember having to cover our house windows with black paper so that no light could go outside the house at night. I remember the sirens would go off and we would have to run to the basement. I still don't understand and asked my parents, why we had go through this. Why didn't the Indian government just allow us to go back home. So in my life I have seen from the Iranian revolution to the Sep 11, 2001 attacks live with my own eyes.

Patrick, what you don’t seem to understand is that no matter what Reza Pahlavi says or does, his efforts won’t succeed as long as Western politicians, like Obama, continue making deals with the Ayatollahs. Until the West stops supporting the regime and the conditions are right for change, his actions could only lead to more Iranians being harmed.

@@MarioPeeps Well, as he said, it all comes down to how Trump handles the Middle East this time around. If he sticks with “maximum pressure” on the regime but forgets “maximum support” for the people, it'll feel like a rerun of his first term: Iranians bear the costs of the regime’s blunders, and the Islamic Republic keeps brutalizing its own people. Western countries see this suffering, yet instead of backing the Iranian people, they end up supporting groups that cozy up to terrorist ideologies on their campuses. The irony is, Iranian people are the natural allies of Israel and the West-they share the values of any civilized country.

That's a common misconception , Carter, UK , Seven Sisters (big oil companies), decided because end of consortium and the fact that Shah is not signing it again he must go.
About 1953 coup , Crown Prince spoke in another PBD podcast few months or more ago. Mossadeq was PM, by Iranian consitutional monarchy law, PM can be chosen and dismissed by Shah (King), Mossadeq closed parliament, asked for ministry of war (he want to hold two positions at the same time) and supported few Islamic Fedayeens who k!lled last PM and a historian named Ahmad Kasravi, he was close with both Islamists & Tudeh party (Biggest Soviet backed communist party in Iran), Anyway long story short Mossadeq was removed from power but role of US was greatly exaggerated later and the reason is a CIA top guy , I think Dallas was chief in Bay of Pigs operation and CIA messed up big time so they pushed narrative and wrote books about 1953 coup to exaggerate their role greatly, to show CIA powerful and competent, basically propaganda.
Guess what, Communists in Iran loved that propaganda and regurgitated it and communist historians wrote it as history and they teach it in liberal leftist colleges as history!
      Such a shame.
If someone actually studies Iranian history deeply like I do for over 15 years he/she would understand Mossadeq wanted abolishing monarchy and consitutional monarchy system and makes himself as a strongman leader, it would've end up like other strongman so called "Republics" in Middle-East
Mossadeqis (those who believe deeply in Mossadeq) were one of key facilitators of Khomeini gaining power in Iran and 1979's "revolution"

He should have made the decision short term for the country and region knowing in his heart and mind that that was the moral and logical thing for the country and region in the long term. That’s what a leader does not just give up power to those who are not educated in such huge matters because “they don’t want to”

I find this conversation very interesting. I remember quite well the Iranian Revolution and the sad part the USA played in it. That said, the Shah was no saint and as I recall, was guilty of atrocities against his own people, which is also another reason for the revolution. Seems like there is some sanitizing going on here. Maybe it's time for the Iranian people to rid itself of the extremist regime it has now, since it was not the solution to the problem the Shah presented, and find another form of government that will allow them to prosper and regain some respect in the world.

This subject interests me because I was in my early 20s when this happened, but had not been paying much attention to world affairs. Learning more about the Middle East and all of the ways in which that mindset is so different from the West is something good. It's odd that people in the West don't realize the difference in mindset. I wonder if there is any link between that and the fact that they write language backward from the West? Just asking a fundamental question here.

    • @QED_

No, language is not the issue. But Iran is fundamentally different than most countries in the "middle east". The most important difference in mindset is that Iran is Shia Muslim and not Sunni Muslim. Notice, for instance, that Iran is not geographically at all close to the Zionist State -- so why do they have such an issue with it (?) Once you figure that out, you'll understand Iran better than 99.9% of people in the West . . .

Iran is now the definitive regional power and the West is panicking because they want Iran to stay impotent, servile and weak like under Qajar rule.
They'd much rather have a puppet ruler that they can plant and remove at will.
But truth is, the east is returning to power and the west is in decline. It is the cyclical nature of empires and civilisation which began since the dawn of history.
I can only hope Iran stays militarily strong to prevent it sharing the same fate as Syria and Libya. Equally I would love to see Iran develop its self sufficiency and industrial capability utilise the brilliant minds of its people to strengthen their nation.
The CIA trickery will have Iranians believe western backed regime change will benefit Iran. As if the victors of history ever showed mercy to their foes!
Look at Germany after WW1 and WW2.
Balkanised, demilitarised, demoralised. Germany lacks any sovereignty and is little more than a fief for the American zionist empire.
It is not in Irans destiny to share this fate. And if it does, Iran will not succumb submissively. Gen Z Iranians are brilliant but need to know the stakes and understand the bigger picture.

I have an Iranian friend studying in my uni, there is amazing contradiction between his and dad generation. Govt has killed his dad cousin, but dad still loves clerics. Meanwhile, younger generation mostly hate clerics. His dad sent him out of country because he was involved in beating up local cleric during protests! Younger generation does not want regressive form of religion as persian never were religious. They are converting to christianity in exile as a protest.

    • @ZahdShah
      @ZahdShah 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Younger generation are brainwashed by CIA. Brilliant and brave kids but their energy is misguided, in my opinion. They don't realise if the clergy go, Iran will be utterly colonised by foreign powers and relegated as a minor, demilitarised state. The same way Germany was treated after losing WW1 and WW2.
Germany lost land after ww1. And was Balkanised and quartered after WW2. Iran risks sharing this fate if the Mullahs go and the enemy take over.
All Iranians are patriots but the direction that we focus our patriotism differs. Some think the most important issue is social problems like hijab law or economics. Others like me think territorial integrity and military prowes to deter invaders who are thirsty for Iranian blood.
The West will never allow Iran to be strong again. So never rely on the West's mercy! History proves this.
They will replace the ruling class with Mizrahi Jews and use the Shah's son as a puppet figurehead.
The society will be become individualistic and simply regress and decline while they enjoy bread and circus trivialities like in the west.
Conditions are far from perfect now but Iranian people LACK VIRTUE to be given the freedom they claim to desire. Freedom can be a destructive force. Partying and taking drugs and having sex just because you can is not virtuous. There is little that the west can offer Iran except LGBT. I only hope Iran improves its economic ties and develops its self sufficiency and industries without relying on the West. Iran has everything it realistically needs, natural resources, brilliant minds, etc.

Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi is the only trustworthy individual in terms of politics, international relations, democracy, secularism, and, most importantly, peace and stability-not only for Iran but also for the entire Middle East, Europe, and Western countries, including the United States.
Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi is a highly honest and morally steadfast figure who firmly supports political frameworks and all forms of freedom of expression, including social freedoms. He is someone whose actions and words can be trusted and invested in. His performance over the past 45 years has been consistently positive and peaceful. He has always opposed war, unrest, and bloodshed. This is why people inside and outside Iran regard him as the only viable option to lead the country, both now and after the collapse of the criminal regime of the Islamic Republic.
In Iran’s streets today, young people under the age of 25 call out his name with pride, knowing that Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi remains committed to the four principles he has outlined:
    1. Secularism
    2. Democracy under the framework of international human rights
    3. Territorial integrity of Iran
    4. Peace and friendship with all nations, fostering positive and constructive relationships
