Dear Patrick, as an Iranian-American, I have to sincerely thank you for being one of the few to ask the BEST and most fundamental questions to Reza Pahlavi. You come extremely prepared to every interview, and help to enlighten all of us in an engaging way. Kudos to you and what you have accomplished - I know how important this podcast was for you, and we deeply appreciate your long efforts towards making this happen! 👏👏👏

As a Greek, I have the utmost love and admiration for Iran, her culture and her history. In ancient times, our two peoples dueled each other over the fate of the known world several times - conflicts so legendary that they still capture the imagination of the public to this day. In modern times, our two nations were among the closest of friends - almost certainly due to our shared history ancient history. During the 2,500 year celebration of Persian Civilization, our King Constantine II stood next to Mohammad Reza Shah during the ceremony. And after his death in Cairo, our King attended the funeral of Mohammad Reza Shah in a show of his friendship - one of the only heads of state in the world to do so. This past year when Constantine II died, Empress Farah was among the attendees. Our two peoples possess a long relationship with rich histories, thousands of years old, and I hope that one day Iran's people will find freedom again.

The history we shared was and still is wonderful and I believe we should celebrate it through media, museums and tourism. I really hope one day both of nations will rise again as leaders of the world who fairly compete and admire each other in terms of technology, innovation, science, economy, culture, philosophy, poetry, … similar to old days but this time in peace 🤍

Greetings from Australia!. I worked in Iran from 1974 to 1976 as an architect with NIOC in Abidan, Khorumsha, and Tehran.
I met Shah Reza and Farina in Niarveran at the palace and met their son, who had been allocated to me to check out the new cities we were designing in the southern Kurdistan region. His mother was so sweet! I met the boy called Reza and met him in Adaban for orientation, then we went to Kargh Island . He was a lovely boy, and I know Farah loved her son enormously. I loved the people and its rich blend of different communities. I recall being beaten in chess on Kargh Island by Iranian doctors and the laughing as I was in the finals in london🎉 - He looks like his Dad and in all my travels I have not met a nicer race of funloving people as these Persians ❤

Iran is the first country in the world, the very very first one. Iran literally translates to "Land of Aryans", none of that European nonsense, the real Aryan race are Iranians... they're named Aryans because they're noblemen who paved the way for the rest of the world (construction, language, art, etc). They had the biggest empire at the time "Persian Empire", who battled the Romans. Fierce rivals. The language of Iran is Farsi, one of the oldest languages in the world, more than 3000+ years old. It is quite sad to look at the state of Iran today though... UK and USA played a big part in destroying Iran all because they wanted to nationalise the oil and separate from BP oil company...

Pahlavis left Iran with its best economy, military and reputation in 500 years, and the current puppets in charge have done everything in their power to make our people so poor that they sell their bodies to make ends meet while their foreign mercenaries like bilal get everything.

Obviously not all of them, but there’s this blanket brainwashing that they’ve tried to instill in people to view the regicides and dissolutions of monarchies as a positive for the people, when in reality it has benefitted certain people far more than it has most people.

National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, who told Tokyo officials in 1978 that the international financial elite ``will permit no new Japans.'' The 1985 Plaza Accords, imposed on Tokyo by Bush-buddy, U.S. Treasury Secretary Donald Regan and the Bank for International Settlements, unleashed a process to dismantle Japan's ``full set'' economy, deliberately driving up the value of the yen, creating a huge speculative bubble in Japan itself, which led to a collapse in exports and skyrocketing prices, including in real estate.

"Full Set" Economies Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan developed on the basis of an economic model, known as the ``full set'' concept, which was rooted in the principles outlined by America's first Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, and the National System of Political Economy of Germany's Friedrich List. Hamilton wrote that it was impossible to found a lasting and free nation-state, without government protection and fostering of industry, and especially of new scientific invention.
These ideas were fully adopted in Japan as early as the 1870s, and in Taiwan and South Korea after World War II and the Korean War, respectively. Rather than allow their countries to be ``colonized'' by foreign capital, all three mobilized government credit, issued through government development banks, to develop infrastructure. Their central banks judiciously guided the commercial banks to loan specifically to such projects and to private companies to create entirely new industries. As each new industry came on line, the government then sold its share to a private firm to develop further. Japan, Taiwan and South Korea were all cut off from the mainland, poor in raw materials, and dependent on foreign fossil fuel, yet they chose to meet their postwar national security needs by developing industrial independence. This shows up overwhelmingly in the density of infrastructure development per capita, per square kilometer, and per household, as already shown, in part, by the relationship of manufacturing to agricultural labor force, energy generation per capita, and the significant extent to which that energy is derived from nuclear power, unlike any other countries in the region. The fundamental difference lies in the development, in depth, of the machine tool sector, comprised mostly of small and medium-sized firms, feeding the larger ``mother plants'' of the major firms with an increasing rate of qualitative improvement in product design and labor productivity, producing entirely new generations of machine tools (see Fig. 5). Author Mitsuhiro Seki, in his book Beyond the Full-Set Industrial Structure, captures the density of such machine-tool capacity in the Ota Ward, south of Tokyo, where some 2,000 such highly specialized shops operated. One systems designer told Seki, ``Within the radius of one-and-a-half hours travel from here are located all the development divisions of Japan's leading companies. I can make a paper airplane of my blueprint, toss it out the window, and in a few days the finished product will be ready.'' ``Tigers'' Singapore and Hongkong represent the counter-example. Founded as forward bases for running British Imperial financial and drug warfare against China, in particular, and continuing to this day as the pre-eminent, money-laundering centers for the region's vast black market economy, complemented by lower levels of low-skill, cheap-labor assembly operations, the stuffing in these tigers is pure fluff. As for the ``emerging Tigers'' of Southeast Asia, their attempts at serious industrial development have largely been still-born. Whatever intentions Thailand and the Philippines had of large-scale infrastructural and industrial development, fell victim to the double-whammy of the late-1970s oil shocks and Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker's stratospheric interest rate policies. In the early 1980s, the IMF ordered any such intentions shelved, and, in the case of the Philippines, unleashed a three-year process, from 1983-86, to ``break'' that country on the basis of a program of deregulation, privatization, and liberalization that dominates economic and financial policymaking to the present. For Indonesia and Malaysia, both oil and gas producing nations, the oil bonanza sustained their development policies until 1985-86. While it lasted, President Suharto of Indonesia, with the assistance of his Minister of Technology, B.J. Habibie, created a ``strategic industries'' sector of eight industrial firms, as the core of an independent national security production capability, serving both the civilian and military sectors. Habibie also advised Malaysia's Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in building a similar ``Heavy Industrial Corporation of Malaysia (HICOM).'' But with the collapse of the oil price after 1985-86, the boom was lowered by the international financial elite. In Indonesia, the IMF-trained technocrats in the economic and financial bureaucracy successfully leashed the ``strategic industries'' sector such that it remains a potentiality for the future, but does not function as a ``technology driver'' for the economy as a whole. In Malaysia, the HICOM program was largely scrapped. No New Japans The failure of Southeast Asia to develop in the footsteps of Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan has to be laid, in part, at the door of such London-trained officials, as former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, who told Tokyo officials in 1978 that the international financial elite ``will permit no new Japans.'' The 1985 Plaza Accords, imposed on Tokyo by Bush-buddy, U.S. Thus, began the diversion of investment away from the productive sector and physical economy and into feeding the speculative bubble.

He not only forgoes resentment but also seeks to contribute positively, reflecting the depth of his character. Shahzadeh, with a heart rich in compassion and a soul brimming with wisdom, gracefully declines what is rightfully his - the crown. Such a decision speaks volumes of his true majesty and royal essence. His actions are a testament to his extraordinary qualities, which stand out even more starkly against the backdrop of oppressive figures like Khamenei. It's a powerful reminder that true value and capability often shine brightest in the face of adversity. Thanks, Patrick.

I've heard stories of how westernized Iran was before the current regime took hold, but listening to the crowned prince's stories and now mindset is crazy. I thought he answered everything the way a leader should answer. Great interview again!

If you like you should look up videos of his father's interviews. I wish you would and then tell me what you think. His father may be the most eloquent, charismatic and genuine person you'll ever see. Of course it's not rational to speculate like that and I'm not saying that because I'm biased. Of course I love the Patriotic Pahlavis to death but I can still have an objective opinion about them. And in my opinion there will never live another leader like the late Shah. Not even his son who we love and support dearly.
His grandfather was a great man. It's almost unbelievable when you read what he actually did for Iran and especially women -if you find a correct source- They criticize him for forcing women to take off their hijabs even against their will. But they don't mention that women were their male relatives property at the time and weren't allowed to get out of the rooms in the back of the house when there were visitors.
Women weren't counted as human beings. If Reza Shah was to leave it to them, their husbands and male relatives would never allow them to take their hijabs off. They didn't even know what their own "opinion" was about it. Reza Shah actually released them from those chains. He forced them into the society and that's why IRI couldn't stop women from having an education and being in the society when they occupied the country. Because Reza Shah has taught Iranian men and women that there should be equality. Just like there was 2500 years ago. When Iran was an empire. I said so much but I just love this family a lot. Hope we see people from all around the world in Iran soon. Especially Americans who IRI tried so hard to paint as our enemy to us but failed. ❤❤❤

I also totally respect and admire the views that the Crown Prince shared along with his willingness to step back and let others take up the mantel to lead while he provides a ambassador/advisor role in seeing his country and countrymen evolve to their greatest potential without the need for power, money or fame. This is a man or honor and a true patriot. I do hope that one day Iran would get the foreign support needed to bring forth this change.

I, politely, disagree. I think he was trying to play both sides. His father said it how it is, without much care for what others thought, and that led to his downfall. Thus, I suspect, why Reza does not follow the same route, understandably. He is trying to illustrate to the West that he is not against them (he kept playing down the role of the CIA and the West in general, whilst speaking about the problem of the USSR's ideology).
I think the Criwn Prince would be a better option for Iran than what they have now, but I do believe he is being too nice to the West, understanding who has an actual ability of installing him back into power, because the Iranian people do not.

I met the Shah in Paris when he visited my University. I was one of the student introduced to him I was amazed by the man culture he spoke my language without accent. This man was a great visionary upon finishing my study I went to work to Iran in the oil chemical field as he advised me to do so. I was impressed by the kindness of the Iranian people. While hobnobbing between Saudi -Arabia and Iran I could see the difference of civilization. The aggressively and condescending of the Arabs for whom anyone who was not a Muslim was not even human versus the modernizing Iran were the people were eager to educate you about their great history. All that ended at the return of Khomeini where we were labelled little Satan it was his way to thanks the French people for their hospitality. Upon returning to France I was trying to understand the reason why this dark revolution happened. I came across the green book written by Khomeini where he was advising his fellow countrymen of how to clean themselves after having some privacy with a Donkey. The Shah of Iran was one of the great man the nation of Iran was ever gifted for.

Patrick another incredible podcast ! I remember the Iranian Revolution in 1979. Also, very important for everyone in the world to watch the only interview that The Shah did was with David Frost in Panama. The Shah excepted two important terms; first no questions in advance and received no money for it, and second no editing on his part! It is a great interview on ABC at the time. Toward the end when Frost ask why he didn’t clamp militarary is he said a King can not kill his own people en mass because then he would have become a dictator!!

Thank you Patrick for this fabulous eye opening podcast. It is a good idea to review history and develop wisdom from it. I did not know about many of these facts revealed by Prince Reza Pahlavi. I am an Iranian who immigrated to the USA in 1979. My heart is touched by the level of care, intelligence, transparency and articulation that Prince Reza Pahlavi presents in this interview. May he achieve his goals soon or later along with Iranian people who have been under all the tyranny of power hungry oppressors. They have not had enough opportunity to grow as a citizen and develop their consciousness, but they are now awake and heading toward having better lives. To that DAY ...

A wonderful and enjoyable dialogue. Thank you, Patrick. As a non-Iranian person, an Assyrian from Iraq, I did not know anything about the thoughts of the Crown Prince. Now I have a good idea of how he thinks and to what extent he wants to see his country free. The people of Iran can enjoy freedom and democracy and have a free and dignified life. We do not forget that any change in Iran will have a positive impact on Iraq, which has been suffering greatly since the American invasion and the mullahs’ influence over it completely through their tools that were raised in the mullahs’ embrace. I lived in Iran for a year and a half, fleeing from Iraq in 1986. I have a good perception of the Iranian people. They are a wonderful, conscious people and deserve all the best.
