    Hi Kelly I'm very disappointed in the backlash against Korean skincare re this incident. Big brands like L'Oreal, Neutrogena etc have all had this happen to sunscreens they sold without the hysteria. I think the whole thing has been handled very irresponsibly by the original website owner who started it and by numerous youtubers tbh. I've worn this sunscreen for a year. I'm a fitzpatrick one living in Scotland. Without sunscreen I burn within 5 minutes, get prickly heat and freckles. I also get headaches in bright sun and wear both sunglasses and a hat. I've been on tretinoin for 18 months and I have both rosacea and eczema. I have had absolutely no sign this hasn't worked for me and have even had some fading of freckles (I do use tretinoin, azelaic acid and niacinamide in my skincare to be transparent). I'm still using it = it's Winter here in Scotland and the UV index is low so an spf 20 is more than enough right now anyway. No governing body is going to independently test every single sunscreen on the market - it's too expensive and won't happen. They may randomly test on occasion, but not everything. They check the studies/evidence provided by the manufacturer and give approval based on that. Purito did not MAKE the sunscreen and very very few brands do. There are only a handful of labs in the whole world who make sunscreens (nail polish is another item made by very few manufacturers as a point of reference). I'm sad at the hate being spewed at the k beauty industry as so many of my favourite products are from that realm. I did watch Lab muffin's video and thought it was extremely well done. Thank you for not spreading more hysteria re this subject. Best wishes.

    Hi Kelly, I really appreciate you talking about this! While I understand the hesitation to jump into such a serious topic, I think it is important for influencers who have recommended this sunscreen to discuss the current controversy. At least in order to point their viewers in the direction of scientists who may have more information. Also, because Purito is offering reimbursement to customers at the moment. Even though we don't have complete information at the moment, some people may be uncomfortable using the sunscreen given the information we do have. This was very responsible of you and I appreciate it! I always enjoy your videos and recommendations!

    Thanks for your balanced approach. Got a little hate for a YT comment that the purito works for me. Work at home, windows with UV film, blinds closed, loved putting purito on three- four times per day. I hope they bring it back, my skin had never looked better since protecting with this product. Now I’m hunting for replacement - neogen is pretty good. Still thick 😔

    I’m just happy purito is taking it seriously, doing more testing, pulling products until that is done and refunding... I don’t think there is a brand that s perfect so it’s all about how they respond and if it is not the correct spf #... hopefully correct it ❤️

    There are so so many things that influence the way products work for you. I didn't particularly enjoy the Laneige Cica Sleeping Mask the first time I used it, but this summer, when I was in a different city with very different environmental conditions it helped me so so much, especially for my mascne. The Clinique moisture surge is so popular but it makes my skin tingle wayyy too much for me to enjoy it. Skincare is personal and it's time we got that.

    I never had a problem with burning with the Purito sunscreen but it did peel on me. Every. Single. Time. I tried it over and over. Over moisturizer, without moisturizer, without serum, without Essence, waited till my moisturizer dried completely. Peeled every time. The Purito comfy water, thank You farmer sun essence, DRMTLGY Tinted Moisturizer SPF 46 do the same thing. The only sunscreens I can get to work for me are the Krave Beet Shield, The Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence, and the canmake Mermaid skin Gel. But I understand why people love the Purito sunscreens. I used the Green Level Unscented and Comfy Water Suncreen on my daughter all summer and it worked great for her. Didn’t peel at all. Everyone is different.

    Hi Kelly. New info on Purito sunscreen from Purito shows that the spf was at 29, not 19. This is still not spf50. And what about the ++++ factor? This has caused me to start doubting their other products and the ingredient claims. And not just Purito. How do we know if Korean skincare products really contain, for example, 60% centella asiatica? How good are their labs? This has really opened up a can or worms for me. ☹️

I feel so annoyed when people read ingredients to me. yes, I can read too. I could use the same ingredient websites you do. but that's useless?! tell me how YOU liked it! so kelly, thanks for always telling me your experience with the products. without user experience, this whole online skinfluencer thing is just a waste of time, imo, becoming skintertainment and not knowledge exchange.

    This was one of the most well-balanced and fair discussions about the Purito sunscreen "scandal" that I've seen on TH-cam. Thank you and I hope that Purito/Klairs can prove their suncreen claims or improve their SPF because they're the only ones that don't sting my eyes. I live in Australia and have tried many dozens of sunscreens over my 49 years and none, not one at all, has come close to being as comfortable to wear on my face and eyelids as Purito and Klairs. I'm lathered in Klairs Soft Airy right now.

    I'm Lakota. If I stand in the sun for five minutes I get dark DARK hyperpigmentation blotches. I wore the Purito Comfy Water and I'm currently using the Klairs Soft Airy, been having them in my rotation forever and I never got one extra bit of hyperpigmentation. So I will continue trusting myself and the results that I have seen. There just isn't a foolproof test for SPFs yet, so that's what I'm going to go by. Everyone is different, some people sweat their sunscreen off faster or wipe their faces absentmindedly more than others, some people don't reapply or don't wear enough. Some people reapply every five seconds and wear golf ball sized amounts. Same with the tests, you can't test only one tube and say that every tube ever made would have the same results. Even the testing methods aren't foolproof. YET. I'll be thrilled when a foolproof test DOES come around so we can all be sure!

For me was disappointed of the brand cause I feel like, however they decided to put this product out to sale, is their choice and they are responsible.. on the other hand I still feel they are good products that have worked for me, maybe I didn't have spf 50 but I know I was protected cause the one day I didn't use it i tanned like a lot. And for sure I'm not gonna throw my tubes away... I feel like you, both sides are true! We really need to truly respect others and stop being so intolerant to others perspectives!

    I appreciate you approaching this with respect and not being quick to disregard a whole industry. I've been shocked at how quick some people have been to turn on all kbeauty. It seems a little racist? Sunscreen scandals have happened before and there was no concerted effort to completely reject the brand, much less every single product from an entire country. I have even seem some go so far as state they'll no longer use Asia beauty period. It's crazy. Especially when the same energy was no where present in previous, comparable scandals. It's hypocritical.

    I feel like we have to wait for purito's results and see what they have to say.
    Now personally, I live in a hot climate country, in summer it gets really intense, and spf 19 would not be enough for me, not during summer anyway... now I have tried the unscented centella sunscreen a while before all of this happened and I didn't like it, not because of the protection but I didn't like the texture at all. I have also tried the comfy water one and found it better suited for my skin type.
    I don't know maybe I got a defective one with the centella one, it was a bit yellowish.
    I since then tried the klairs soft airy uv essence as well and I completely burn with it... it was during the summer and definitely wasn't enough for me, I tend to burn only in my cheeks, I flush easily but I do tan as well, without sunscreen I can immediately feel burned since the climate here is insane haha.
    so with klairs I felt like I had put nothing on my skin...

    Almost every country and major brand that sells sunscreen has had these problems where the product doesn't match the labelled SPF. This happens in the US, Europe, Australia, and Japan. One brand messing up doesn't mean that all Korean brands are untrustworthy.

    • @dimatsonkova128
      @dimatsonkova128 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No other brand has claimed an SPF of 84 with such extremely low filter content, and then be shown to have SPF 19 by *two* EU labs (I prioritise their findings over the Korean lab which found it to be SPF 28 - still way too low). Other Korean sunscreens are claiming similar values while also having extremely low organic filter concentrations - you're free to use whatever sub-par sun protection you want, people interested in the "anti-aging" benefits of sunscreens shouldn't have to keep quiet about Korean sun blocks which by and large don't do sh*t for that.

    • @shivika1000
      @shivika1000 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dimatsonkova128 The EU labs were told the SPF was around 20. There's been a lot of evidence of biased SPF ratings when a specific SPF is mentioned beforehand. As far as I know, no other major Korean brand had listed the exact concentration of their filters. Even then filters alone do not determine SPF. Based on filter concentration alone, the Purito SPF was supposed to be 10. But the EU labs found it to be almost double. Why? There is a delivery system in the formula. Lab Muffin Beauty Science has a great video explaining how SPF testing works. You should look at that.
      As for Korean sunscreens not doing shit, first off look at Korean people. By that I mean Koreans who live in Korea. Do you know why people there in their 50s and 60s look so much younger? They've been using sunscreen since they were kids. So do their sunscreens work. Seems like it. I personally used to tan and burn really easily. I only started using sunscreen regularly about a year and a half back, I spend at least an hour in the sun everyday because of my work. And not only have I not tanned or burned, the amount of hyperpigmentation I get after pimples has also reduced. Don't generalize to an entire country because of one incident. There've literally been much more from Western countries.

  • @ongbc8674

    SPF rating is important regardless how good the sunscreen feel on skin. Don't compromise the SPF rating over some influencer's great feeling about the sunscreen.

    • @skittydreamsd4766
      @skittydreamsd4766 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      SPF rating is important, but if you don’t like how a product feels or acts on the skin then chances are you won’t want to use it which is even worse. Sometimes a compromise is the better option. I have used sunscreens with higher SPF ratings, but they were TERRIBLE on my skin. They left a white cast, burned on my skin, flaked off, broke me out, etc. Purito’s sunscreen never gave me those issues so I use it regardless of the now lessened SPF rating. I even live in Hawai’i where we get a lot of sun exposure and I haven’t had any signs of damage to my skin with this sunscreen. Sunscreen works differently on everyone and for my skin an SPF of 19-28 works just fine.

    I’m glad you talked about the whole sunscreen controversy. I bought the unscented purito and the comfy water not too long ago. Then this whole thing happened but I’ve just still been using it. Like you I haven’t really noticed any difference in skin tone and pigmentation so that’s why but I will say I wouldn’t repurchase it again until more info comes out about it to clarify the situation. I had heard about dear klairs and keep cool also being from the same manufacturer, since some sites like yesstyle no longer sell those either. Which is unfortunate since I really wanted to try the keep cool but again until more info comes out I won’t be getting those. Still on the lookout for my go to sunscreen and despite all this I still think it’s important to wear sunscreen because like you said these things happen but all we can do is try to take care of ourselves and our skin the best we can.

    I actually had both experiences recently with one of the Purito sunscreens cause I wear them all the time. Went to another town were it was sunnier and more “tropical” and I got super tanned wearing the Purito Water sunscreen. It was shocking to me cause the day before I used a mineral based sunscreen and got no tan at all.
    And then I heard about the controversy and thought maybe I got a tan cause the Purito it’s not really a 50 SPF and it was only obvious when I went to a place with a higher UV index.
    But can’t really be sure because I used Purito for months, even during summertime, with no sunburn, so there is no way to be sure.
    Oh well. Maybe someday we will find out if the issue is application or formulation 🤷🏻‍♀️

    So @UCr2jQ0_J5AZvniyJBL0_H-Q , I'm curious as to what you wanted to be when you grew up. You're a wonderful TH-cam influencer, but I think you'd also make a great judge - that person that reviews all sides before making any sort or judgement. That being said, it took me YEARS to find a sunscreen that doesn't exacerbate my eczema, that doesn't turn my tan skin pinkish-gray and that doesn't require a small loan to buy. Purito was it! So, after using it for a little less than a year, I, too am a bit disappointed. However, I'm going to finish up what I have left (a tube and a half) and see what comes of this situation as well. Otherwise, if you have other recommendations for someone like me, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks again for all that you do!

    Spf 50 or spf 19...it's still protection...only thing is where you live & your climate & your body your skin is different..so true...well said...i have used all 3 of purito's sunscreens & they worked for me..no tanning..no discoloration...i live in Northern India btw..maximum temperature is 45° where I live...lowest is 5°-7°....those sunscreens worked beautifully for my skin...might not be the case with everyone obviously...example my skin doesnt like klairs supple preparation toner..it breaks me out...doesnt mean its a bad product..it just didnt work for me...i am patiently waiting for purito's & klairs response after they do their own individual testing...PATIENCE...

    You should check B•LAB I'm sorry just sun cream' and the brand products in general its a new brand not really famous yet but very promising one ! with all the "buzz" going on with the purito sunscreen the b lab is much better .. also it's kinda boring that all youtubers talking about the same products same "popular famous brands.."

    my purito sunscreen from yesstyle is also a little yellow. not sunflower summer sunshine yellow, but also clearly not white.

      Hmm, seems like that's not a good sign. I bought purito unscented centella sunscreen many times from yesstyle in 2019 and early 2020. It was always a white or ivory color for me and I would never have considered it to be yellow or remotely yellow. It's a little concerning to hear yours is close to yellow. Is your bottle new? If so maybe they sent you an expired bottle? Or maybe the formula has changed? Or perhaps there is room for natural variation in color but I never happened to get a yellow batch like you. It's hard to say.

    Your decision to not get involved prematurely in the discussion seems like the safe way to go. When I found out about the testing done in Germany and Poland I was horrified because I suffer from hyperpigmentation and more importantly my family has a history of skin cancer.

    I’ve been watching your reviews for over a year until I come across this clip.
    To me it’s the time such as this that tells me which TH-camr is truly unbiased in their reviews. We think of you as a non expert and non scientist whether it’s a sunscreen matter or not. If we want a truly science based review we wouldn’t watch your vdo.
    It’s interesting that you’re willing to make recommendations on so many products including purito without a lot of scientific data behind it. But when it comes to criticizing a product you’ve been sponsored to talk about earlier you’re being hesitant by saying that you need more info and even pointing to “red” flags in two independent scientific tests done by 2 different labs in Europe.
    I find it irresponsible to not come out and at least give a warning to your viewers that they should at least pause the use of Purito for now to be on the safe side instead of being simply quiet. I’d imagine that someone who truly cares about my health and exposure to skin cancer would tell me that.

      Why would she tell you not to wear it? That is for you to decide based on the available information. Like you said she is not an expert or a scientist so she wouldn’t have any grounds to tell us to stop using something. She clearly said that she’s deferring to people with more expertise about the subject and to listen to what they have to say. This means that she does care, but she’s just doing it in a more responsible way by telling you to get all the facts and listen to actual experts.

    • @sanitwong9780
      @sanitwong9780 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skittydreamsd4766 I didn’t ask her to tell us to stop but to pause and proceed with care. Of course she would have the evidence based ground based on 2 in Vivo studies with 15 human subjects in accordance with the European regulatory standard as well as 1 in vitro study all pointing to 19 SPF. Did you see the study result?

    • @sanitwong9780
      @sanitwong9780 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@skittydreamsd4766 if she truly wanted to defer to other experts then she shouldn’t point out the red flags of the studies since she isn’t qualified to do so. If she decided to do so then it’s only fair to also point out the fact that both human studies were conducted in accordance with the international standard that the European regulatory authority would use to approve a final labeling.

      @@sanitwong9780 Pausing use literally means to stop use even if for the moment. That’s just nitpicking at this point. As for the research like it or not we are not qualified to read them and neither is Kelly so she’s making the right call by not going into detail about her own findings. Only qualified professionals are able to peer review them for accuracy and presence of bias. Also, just because someone orders a study to be done on a product does not mean their results are valid especially with so little overall data available to us. Those labs had an SPF of 19, but another had an SPF of 28. These discrepancies exist because there is currently no standard procedure for testing these products so results will always be different. The same thing has happened for sunscreens in other countries including the US. This is why systematic reviews and meta analyses are ALWAYS more reliable than an individual lab’s research because they pick through hundreds of studies to come to a conclusion about something. However, waiting for that would take many years so just use your own judgement on how to proceed at this point.

      @@sanitwong9780 She pointed out the red flags based on her own experiences. Those are the flags that give HER pause, but not necessarily anyone else. She’s clearly giving only her opinion and not stating it as fact which she is free to do.
