The History Of Hamsters

  • Have you ever wondered what your hamster's background history was? Or where do their species come from? Many may think all hamsters originate from the same place or that all hamsters live in a desert when this isn't true!
I do apologize if any words are mispronounced! Many I had never used before and right before filming had to google how to pronounce (like Phodopus and Aharoni), I also realize I messed up "Aleppo" for some reason my brain always switches the L with the P when I think of it 😅 And apparently the Netherland flag got flipped during editing as well- fun times 😃

This vid is awesome. It proves the basis for proper care and is an answer to basically all of the hamster arguments that come up:
    Why hamsters need large cages
    Why they are solitary
    Why they need to burrow
Why they need to be enriched
It also sheds light on the bad breeding situation coming from pets in petstores bred by rodent mills.
And it clears up the differences and classifications of each domesticated specie!
Dude, I need to show this to everyone who is thinking of getting one or who already has a hamster.
You even put links in the description for sources!!
It's like a reaaallllly well put together research project!
    Well done!! 👏👏👏👏👏

I want to thank you Victoria, i am 12 and i got my Russian dwarf hamster during lockdown. At the time she had a 340 square inch enclosure, 4 inches of bedding, a 5 inch wheel and 3 accessories. I have had her for almost 2 years now and she now has an 800 square inch enclosure, 11 inches of bedding, a 11 inch wheel, herbs and a more varied food mix, cork log, sand bath and all the necessary enrichments a hamster needs. Thank you for teaching me and making my hamsters life- although small- much happier.

She is more rounded as more of a cute short button nose than that of a mouse. She has a thick line on her back and a lot of her physical features more so resemble winter white
the fact that I've done the comparisons I have no idea , coupled with the fact I got her from PETCO probably means she very well might be a hybrid

Yesterday my hamster died. He was 1 year old and a half. I always watch your videos and that helped me a lot to take proper care of my hamster. I’m very sad that my hammy passed away but I hope I gave him a good life. ❤️

Hi! Your channel is a brilliant resource for those of us who are first-timers (and more experienced peeps, I'm sure). Is there anything you'd recommend to cover wire bars with in order to fill the bedding higher? I bought the Savic hamster plaza in preparation for getting a hamster next week but didn't realise how much bedding was needed for them to burrow

Thanks! You can try using cardboard, plexiglass or coroplast to make a taller base :)

I've owned Syrians, Campbell's, winter whites, and hybrids. I can't stress the importance of keeping them alone. I tried to house a pair of hybrids and they fought as soon as I brought them home. That led to separation of the two. they also had extreme neurological issues and health issues. I purchased them from a pet store and their genes were dirtier than my grandmas mind. Also Victoria, thanks for all these videos. I've been a sub since I was 9 and you helped me give my hamsters a good life. you also helped me inspire others to change their care. it's a domino effect. Thanks you!
