I own a Longaberger basket and a Red Man picnic basket. Thanks for the memories. Been to Dresden on field trips and looked in amazement at that giant basket & office building❤
The value of these baskets have plummeted. I remember cataloging all of my mom’s baskets for her regular baskets, signed, baskets, miniature collectors club baskets, pottery, liners , lids. You name it she had it. Truly sad that Dave’s girls destroyed the business and a lot of the lively hoods of the people of Dresden.
I am still a huge Longaberger basket fan. So sad the 3rd generation of Longabergers let it fail. I was at the factory 2 or 3 times and even got to weave a couple baskets. You could tell the company changed when the daughters took over
Im so glad that I had the chance to visit there while it was still such a popular place to go. I couldnt afford the dishes back then, but now I can find them in thrift shops etc. I only purchase the ones marked made in usa.
My wife bought Longaberger for years. In May 2006, we noticed some pieces where not made in the US anymore and made in China. So I called Longaberger customer service. The agent gives me the runaround and "we currently can't find a lot of artistians to continue making our products in the US..." I said "so you are outsourcing to China and I expect for the preminum price the product to be made in the US. I will bet that will be out of business within 10 years." She chuckled and she thanked me for calling. Longaberger was gone by 2018. I was close.........
I had 4-5 family members that worked there. Your on point about the China made. We purchased to keep thee family going but also because USA made. If the baskets were China made for 50% off I would not have bought them. Economic state was BAD starting 2009 that made buying food more important than buying baskets too!
I had bought a few of these, they have the initial of who made it and the year. Mine are from the 8Os. I still have them, they were made really well. My daughter used the same basket every year for Easter, so I gave it to her when she was an adult.
It ain't rocket science people. What happened to longaberger was Tammy. She destroyed that company. The old man's body wasn't even covered with dirt and off she went spending money on useless things. Destroyed her dad's dream. Sorry Dave your daughter just couldn't handle it.
It is true. Popeye was a good man and did a lot for the community. I lived in Dresden for a while and know some of the family. Tammy was the downfall for the company.
I had a butterdish, several bowls, pie plates which I really liked. Came home from a two week vacation and my longaburger along with several other pieces were stolen. I never replaced it. My bad. Thank you for posting this great video! 😊
I remember these baskets like a status symbol. Then we went to Germany and discovered Polish baskets. 1/4th the price and made well. I have 2 Polish baskets. They are like gold to me.
Thank you for your time you took , I never liked the baskets but was into the pottery I never did get the largest bowl from the bowl set . I started going to a new church and was invited to a party so I went to meet people never thinking I would find something I wanted. I was sure I didn’t want a basket but when I saw the pottery I was hooked , I still have all my pieces except one broken coffee mug ! But I am on the hunt for the largest bowl in green . Again thank you for your video and your time
ill be on the lookout for that bowl. i bet my mom has it. i never use my little tea cups but they look good as decorations in my kitchen with their little holder plates they come with. thanks for stopping by the video!
I didn't buy baskets. When going to a party, a person felt obligated to buy something. I have a mixing bowl. Right now , in my house there are about 5 or 6 Longaberger baskets, that once were my daughter-in-laws. Waste of money.
Should bring an Insurance Co., financial business or corporate HQ to occupy the building. Would be unique and just a little renovation and up and running.
I went to visit Longaberger when I was 17. My mother took my sister and I. I had the purse and several baskets. I remember the town being busy. We are at a little restaurant
This is such a sad story. 15 years ago I married a Longaberger widower. His late wife had collected them and I was surprised how heavy duty they were. Being an old hippy from the west coast I’d never heard of them but give them great respect. We have Longaberger laundry baskets, tissue boxes, trash cans, picnic baskets, pie/cake takers, some of the dishes (which, with my arthritis, takes both hands to lift) and numerous other items. I wish things had turned out differently for this “family” business.
ugh. they were so tacky and overly expensive 😂 yes, we all need a basket that fits on stairs to put things in to take upstairs, that we won't notice later, so it just lays there, in the dumb stair fitting basket. those ridiculous purses were a flashing alert: this person will book a mlm sales party!!
I worked downtown at the Place off the square 1998 -99. We were treated badly and our paychecks were always Wrong I.met Dave and his.2 daughters After he died from cancer It completely fell apart I walked out... The.rest.is history
The hugh Basket building in Newark is doffetent then the forst one built in Dresdon!! How old is this? We were in Dresdon about a month ago and that basket was not there!!
Times change. Yes the daughter Tammy didn't help things but everyone wants to blame her but not realize that the baskets were already not as popular as they once were before she took over. Look at old furniture, brown stuff they call it. At one time everyone wanted a fancy old piece but now it's nearly worthless.
I have a pie basket and at one time it was worth $800. I’m in the process of painting the dozen or so I own. I like them but I don’t like the orangey color of them. Thanks for the interesting video.
It's a video that I shot and presented in the exact format and pacing that I felt like. It didn't take too long to make a point because there was Zero time frame that I was limited to. But thanks for stopping by anyways.

I didn't even know they closed I have longenberger shelves, baskets, pottery even a foot stool ...i got them from a friend that passed away...so sad..
I am still a huge Longaberger basket fan. So sad the 3rd generation of Longabergers let it fail. I was at the factory 2 or 3 times and even got to weave a couple baskets. You could tell the company changed when the daughters took over
I collected Longberger for years! Good quality product - still have some pieces which I still use
He died and his daughter ruined everything he worked his entire life for.
I used to work with a woman who had a severely disabled son, and he couldn't demolish one of those baskets. That's a sign of TOUGH.
This would make a unique apartment building. Should never let it fall to ruin.
Great idea.
Probably the only straight man who cares about these baskets!!!!!!

What a shame! Such a beautiful building & the desks & furniture inside! Hoping someone revives this building!
Thanks for the tour. I had the chance to visit in its glory days. Sad what had happened.

The Longaberer dishes were actually made by Pfaltzgraff
The owners daughter ran it into the ground. Such a shame
Thank you for the tour and your insight and experience.
They were outrageously priced. I thought they were wonderful but I couldn't afford them.
They were handcrafted in America when that meant something. 😢
This looks really good... Whoever build this was on point
its really cool in person. i went inside a couple times when i was a kid. sad its closed now

ouch! but mad respect on keeping it real
I absolutely agree with you on this!!!
Well, hard words but I believe true ones as well.

I was a basket weaver for a couple of years. There was a big layoff, and I went elsewhere for work. Sad that they went out of business.
I remember these baskets like a status symbol. Then we went to Germany and discovered Polish baskets. 1/4th the price and made well. I have 2 Polish baskets. They are like gold to me.
I wish I could by that building and make it a home lol
*buy😊

We live about 20 mins from the basket. What happened? Greed.
Should bring an Insurance Co., financial business or corporate HQ to occupy the building. Would be unique and just a little renovation and up and running.
this Ohio girl stills loves longaberger!! great job🎉
many thanks
I’m not from Ohio but I love Longaberger too.
Still use my Longaberger kitchen utensil holder…solidly holding up those spoons, spatulas and whisks!!😊
I went to visit Longaberger when I was 17. My mother took my sister and I. I had the purse and several baskets. I remember the town being busy. We are at a little restaurant
I've an originlvLongerberger basket from my deceased sister Elizabeth Sclegegel signed by Dave himself It's small but beautiful❤
This is such a sad story. 15 years ago I married a Longaberger widower. His late wife had collected them and I was surprised how heavy duty they were. For the suburban housewife of the 90s longaberger was what one did with money.
Us working gals didn’t prefer baskets 🧺
Interesting story. I have a round casserole dish that I love. Ohio gal.
Yep. My mother has many of them. And was on the bus tours.
Long a better put themselves out of business. How many 199X collectible Father's Day basket does one need?
My mom carried a longaberger basket as a purse for years
mine too, for sure
They had a really nice resturant there ,too.
ugh. they were so tacky and overly expensive 😂 yes, we all need a basket that fits on stairs to put things in to take upstairs, that we won't notice later, so it just lays there, in the dumb stair fitting basket.
those ridiculous purses were a flashing alert: this person will book a mlm sales party!!
I delivered food there for John Sexton Company .It really was a great place !
Got sick of ppl selling them at “parties” in the 90s like Amway products 😢😮😅
That's what Multi-Level Marketing is. Parties and pressuring your friends and family to "support your business".
Please save this building, my late aunt used to make me brownies and gift them to me in these baskets!!!!
It is a beautiful building!
It’s a beautiful building. So sad that it went under.
agreed
The fact you say "moms" like me... earned an automatic sub from me
5:41 exactly right.
I worked downtown at the

I love it! Head Bitch In Charge! (HBIC) I haven't heard that term in years!
I enjoyed your video
thanks!
Never understood the appeal of these baskets! $75 for a basket that might hold a pack of cigarettes!? Why?
Surprised you didnt go to the homestead! You were right there
They are very proud of their merch. The overpriced themselves then made up they would appreciate in value
The hugh Basket building in Newark is doffetent then the forst one built in Dresdon!! How old is this? We were in Dresdon about a month ago and that basket was not there!!
the building that looks like a basket is in Newark Ohio but the worlds largest actual basket is in Dresden Ohio.

Look at old furniture, brown stuff they call it. At one time everyone wanted a fancy old piece but now it's nearly worthless.
I have baskets that look like that building still in the box hoping to sell them
I have a pie basket and at one time it was worth $800. I’m in the process of painting the dozen or so I own. I like them but I don’t like the orangey color of them. Thanks for the interesting video.
what is it worth now? sad how they lost their fame. i miss the longaburger days
@@dougalonation1570 probably $25! It’s not in the best condition.
Thank you
Took too long to get to the subject and didn’t really provide any real explanation
It's a video that I shot and presented in the exact format and pacing that I felt like. It didn't take too long to make a point because there was Zero time frame that I was limited to. But thanks for stopping by anyways.
I worked there back in the late 90's
how was it?
Actually made good money it was cool
@@seanthompson9914 was you there when they announced the end of production was coming? what jobs are available there now in that area?
No I wasn't there when that happened and idk about jobs there cause I live in Las Vegas
Popeye died and his daughter ran the company into the ground. I live in the area and know his nieces.
So sad
Your language is totally unacceptable!!!😮😢😮😢
