For starters, nobody should be concerned about the Russian ships in Cuba, it's a normal exercise. Some news that Ukrainian F-16s will be housed outside of the country has sparked some thoughts in Russia that NATO airfields will be used as staging ground for attacks on Russia, I don't believe that's likely to be how they're deployed. We look at the ongoing Russian offensive around Kharkiv and a new report from BBC about the number of prisoners that were killed while fighting for Wagner.

No one should be surprised by the wagner casualties. The deal was ' survive 6 months and you go home a free man '. Obviously they weren't going to be store men.
Kinda like the early days of the French Foreign Legion.
"Survive and you'll have a new life"
that really sucks
@@fotisvon9943 yes it's brutal but it's honest. I'd even say there is beauty in it - paying with blood for your own crimes and fighting for a second chance in life. it's poetic isnt it?
Prigozhin revealed the casualties like a year ago already. The only new information would be that even as much as 90% of the casualties were prison recruits.
Back in the Korean War it’s pretty well known that Russian pilots flew N Korean flagged MiGs, so honestly having NATO pilots fly Ukraine flagged F-16s would not be without precedent.
they did it in Vietnam too, they also had Russian Advisors operating SAM systems inside of Vietnam. the soviets and Chinese have been doing this exact thing since the 1950s
Also did it with US pilots fighting Japanese before Pearl harbour. "The flying tigers" ring any bells?
Why use NATO pilots? Just hire contractors. There are hundreds of relatively recently separated F-16 pilots who would jump at the chance.
@@dominuslogik484so did the US from years before. Look up the flying tigers for instant. And our role in Vietnam for instance started off as advisors in theater. Its just more of the same i guess.
Oh noes F 16 new gamechanger ....
NATO: Can we behave like Belarus?
Putin: NOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!
Who started this and who is defending themselves?
Yep same as republcunts they want you to follow the law but will holler it doesn't apply to them.
"To allow your territory to be used for military offenses incurs high risk." Describes Belarus perfectly.
"Hey, you guys can't do the exact thing we've been doing, that's not fair 😡"
What's wild is that's not what they're planning on, but Russia will spin it that way to further convince their people they're actually doing poorly because they're fighting the entirety of NATO.
This narrative is obviously preposterous, seeing as that would mean they're getting hit by US stealth bombers, strike aircraft, ship launched missles, hundreds of thousands of ground forces, etc. Still, the narrative stuck for those who like it, and I see it repeated constantly online and even by my own family members who are anti-Ukraine.
My thoughts exactly, a bold statement, for someone so close to a polish border.
And indeed Belgorod...
That's exactly my thoughts. Russia really is the bad guy in this fight. Wish it all wasn't so, though.
Ironic
Why are Belarus bases used to attack Ukraine not attacked in return?
I've always wondered that too because it's not like the Belarusian army is going to make a difference if they attacked back. I think a lot of their army is already fighting in Ukraine under the Russian flag anyways.
So ask Ukraine why didn't they do anything about it
Is there evidence to back that up or just Ukraine says/ British Intel say
Because a war on two fronts is incredibly resource intensive and they already have resource problems.
It's probably that Ukraine doesn't want to bring Belarus directly into the war.
It's like Russia forgot about what Belarus allowed ;)
"Rules for thee, but not for me." Russia's leaders believe they are God's gift to mankind and that everything they do is under divine mandate. Double standards mean less than nothing to them.
So ask Ukraine why didn't they do anything about it

@@Mikeal.Russia has satellites too. All those planes will be shot down and that's that.
It's a good tactic. They know the actual delivery times, but throw this in to make Russia overreact.
To be honest this worked very well.
F16 is not missile proof. Their airbase is not bomb proof.
The Russians fly out of Belarus...
4:00 - The entire reason Russia felt comfortable to do this is because the West showed weakness.
True
Maybe. But you also have to game it out: posturing aside, the US and Western Europe have little to materially lose if/when Russia takes (or retakes) Georgia, chechnya, Ukraine, transistria, etc. the Russians have quite a bit to gain by adding buffer territory and citizens. So the Russians are willing to invest quite a bit more.
Note that we were fine with arming Ukraine with our second-rate and especially our soon-to-expire weaponry (It may have actually saved us money, as it costs $ to safely disarm expired ordinance etc).
For the latest round, I'm sure that the slowness of the American response must have had to do with the fact that we actually may have had to dip into our active stores.
Strength and weakness are not really more accurate metrics than a realistic appraisal of what the other side is willing to spend. Our goal is probably not the inclusion of Ukraine and NATO or the liberation of Ukraine or really anything more than wearing down, occupying, and embarrassing the Russian military. Or tell me if u think I'm wrong
The West is weak.
Yes, Trump on a leash by Putin in Finland was a sign that the US was weak.
Countries that might help by hosting F-16 are NATO members. But NATO itself will not get involved. If any get themselves into deeper trouble, NATO (and especially EU) will simply say your choice your problem. That’s dangerous because Putin will step up his attacks but that’s the likely outcome.

Am I the only one laughing at the idea of Russian subs needing tugboats to cross the atlantic?
Nah the Russians actually take care of their sub fleet, it's probably for the frigate.
The reason the failure to do anything in Kharkiv is a strategic defeat is that it was part of their larger strategy to take cities they believe are "Russian cities". If you look at what their propagandists have been saying, you can understand why taking Kharkiv was so important to them. The fact that they couldn't even get close shows that their strategy is hopeless. Making small gains elsewhere is meaningless when the Russian war population requires victories they can conceptualize. Losing battles in WWI is what caused the military to mutiny and the government to be overthrown. That's possible again.
How is it a strategic defeat? Russia is a completely totalitarian 1984 society now. It's nothing like Tsarist Russia. It's like the USSR with infinite casualty tolerance.
"Russia has no borders" is what they think belongs to Russia.
It was either a recon in force or just a diversion to draw Ukrainians away from the eastern front. You can't expect to take a city of several million with only a few thousand soldiers.
@@mcnuffin1208 Neither of those ideas make sense and contradict the stated goals of official propaganda mouthpieces. You don't do "recon in force" with tens of thousands of men. Also, the defender has the advantage, so the idea that they were trying to divert Ukraine's forces means they would have had to divert even more of their own forces. Ukraine was already using forces to defend that area, but they weren't being engaged. By engaging them, they are spreading out their own forces while allowing Ukraine to use previously unused forces that were committed to that area. So no, their goal was very clearly to take territory. That is the only reason they would have amassed such forces. Though personally I suspect that the real reason behind ordering the attack is to keep as many generals and troops occupied as possible to stave off a military coup against the Kremlin. That would also explain the recent arrest of several of the more competent generals and the replacement of Shoigu.
Its a diversion while other parts of ukraine regions russian gaining grounds everyday because of lack of manpower in some areas
Russia can project military power around the world, at the speed of a tug, which they must send along in case a ship breaks down. Literally why the tug boat is part of the four ship fleet.

Tremendous video preston, I'll follow up with a question. I recall your podcast with habitual linecrosser around a year ago when he said that air defense is an inherently finite resource, how limited do you think russia is in replacing air defense losses considering their s-300/s-400 losses in the kharkiv direction and crimea?
Today in my work I red the story about those ships in Cuba and about an hour later we lost power in the factory...and I was really thinking if something went wrong there and this is it as one of the reasons that this happened (since outages are quite rare here, especially in calm weather)
But what’s scary is 2/3 of the prisoners are now free
Many are very badly wounded. But yeah the rest already start terrorizing their neighborhoods. You read it in Russian telegram channels of various regions but not state media ofc
I’m pretty sure that we’re going to be trying to do these kind of things. The Russians and the Chinese did these kinds of things during Korea and Vietnam I don’t expect that our military leaders are shy of using the same kind of tactics.
I think we actually might be at point where our military leaders think that Russia is weak enough to invite the conflict with them to finish the Ukraine conflict sooner rather than later . I could be wrong, but in many ways it makes sense.
hearing about how most of their casualties have been from slaves... i mean prisoners, it changes my mind on how russia actually fights. that struck me as another evil thing they do
With the uptick of strikes on SAM systems in Crimea I wonder if we will see the F-16 arrive earlier than expected. It certainly seems like they are in the middle of a large shaping operation.
I would imagine that we are giving dates for the arrival of the F-16s that are far later than what they will actually be delivered by.
Thanks, dear America for your constant support to the brave Ukraine🙏🙏🙏🙏
It is less than ideal when you realize that with these numbers, Bakmut probably "only" cost the Russians 3-5k quality troops.
Just out of curiosity. What do you think the US response would have been if Russia and China during the Iraq war/occupation were openly giving weapons and support to the enemy, and then at some point they managed to carry out an attack in the US using weapons, training, and intel supplied by Russia/China? This whole war has been sad, and unnecessary. "NATO wont move east" NATO brings in eastern Euro nations. "NATO wont give these kinds of weapons to Ukraine." NATO gives those kind weapons to Ukraine. For the record independent nations should be allowed to join who ever they want, and Ukraine should remain whole, but we really just seem to play directly into Putin's propaganda needs, giving him all the excuses in the world.
A good example of what I am trying to say is that you say that they likely wont launch F-16s out of NATO counties to strike into Russia, but we were also told that we would send no tanks, and F-16 and other weapons systems, and yet, here we are.
Of course they will fly out of NATO countries and target Russia. If not this month, then next month.
the us response was nothing when Iran did just that!
THERE WAS NEVER ANY PROMISES ABOUT ANTO MOVING EAST
PUTIN CHOOSE THIS WAR NOONE ELSE
STOP BLAMING THE VICTIM
If Putin didn't want NATO to expand, he shouldn't have given neighbours a reason to join by attacking a neighbour.
NATO never moved to East Germany. If you remember your history classes, Poland was in a military alliance called "Warsaw Pact" which meant that NATO could not invite Poland to join. So when Germany was unified, the new NATO/Warsaw Pact border would be on the German-Polish border. And it was agreed that NATO troops would not be stationed at that border. To this day, there are no NATO bases in the former East Germany, and NATO remained in the former West Germany.
If you also remember your history classes, Chinese and Soviet support was what saved North Korea and North Vietnam. Not only were then state-of-the-art SA-2/S-75 Dvina surface to air missiles donated to North Vietnam to shoot down American pilots, but Soviet instructors operated those systems sometimes and Soviet pilots flew MiGs against American sorties. Chinese forces fought the UN forces directly and their fighter aircraft fought in the "MiG alley".

The Russians see their pressence in Crimea indeed as "defensive", because they point out that the majority of the population is Russian: on the peninsula it is more than 50 %, in Sebastopol more than 70 %. When it was theoretically offered to Ukraine in the 1950's, it remained under control of Moscow, since Ukraine was an integral part of the USSR. In 2014 the infamous "Little green men" took back the peninsula with almost no casualties. Except for the demografic reasons (composition of population) there is of course the presence of important militairy infrastructure the Russians were worried about. These two elements and changes in political power in Kiev (from pro to contra Russia) led to 2014, with the West and Russia bickering over whether this was against or in accordance with all the treaties and promises. When Russia wanted to overthrow the regime in Kiev, that was without any doubt offensive. When it comes to what happened in Crimea, it is far more complex for outsiders like me to understand: it seems like both sides have some arguments to claim why they are within their rights. It's less clearcut, while none of the sides seems to want a working compromise.
Maybe instead of "allies" we should say "like minded people" more often.
The Russian air defense situation reminds me of the quip about bankruptcy: "How did you go bankrupt?" "Two ways," Mike said. "Gradually and then suddenly" as written by Ernest Hemingway in The Sun Also Rises.

Also idk if people realize this, wagner was more effective because they essentially operated more as a hybrid of western and Soviet tactics. The ability for what would basically equate to a western NCO, to be able to make judgement calls and strategic decisions on their own while commanding smaller groups under them while using those prisoners for bait and using more trained officers for the equivalent of confederate raids, quick shoot and egress missions, to take out Ukrainian defenses, is what allowed them to make the gains they were able to make. The rest of the regular russian forces are stuck depending on chain of command to reach all the way to the top for even minor decisions for fear of retribution.
I dont understand why there was a restriction in the first place. Russia expected Ukraine to fight with their hands tied behind their back. All America and the West in general did was give them a fighting chance to keep their rights and land. Like that childhood annoying kid that would do the whole "oh you cant but i can".
The west is providing targeting and satellite data and haven't really put any restrictions on the weapons
Those AWACS aircraft are in international airspace but they are taking an active part in the war in Ukraine.
They are using international airspace as a cover to help attack Russia
I don’t really see what they’re worried about. F-16 imparts a logistical advantage to Ukraine, but these are still 40YO planes that will take years to master.
Furthermore, it remains to be seen if the training they received is compatible with Ukraine’s reality on the ground.
Here’s hoping they’re more HIMARS than Abrams. 🤞🤞
Russia still uses the SU 25 amd T 55s bud
Who said anything about a Ukrainian flying the plane? Knowing our politicians, most likely will be "foreign mercenaries" that they can deny involvement when they inevitably get shot down
31 tanks of any model are never war winning numbers. The Abrams were only sent to provide political cover for Germany to send Leopard 2s
which were deemed better suited for Ukraines needs because of logistical issues. "Mastering" when it comes to aircraft is a relative term.
If they can conduct basic combat missions in coordination with an air defense network with additional Patroit batteries, that is going to make
a difference for Ukraine.
There are some things that the F sixteens will be able to do very well for example they can launch JASSM and JASSM-ER from a good distance away.
They can also utilize the full capability of HARM missiles.
There are many other capabilities that the F-16s will bring to the table that their current fleet doesn't possess.
The idea of the plane is 40 years old, but not the airframes, avionics, or weapon systems. However, much of Russia's military is quite literally 40 years old. Some SUs might be new-er... like 25 years old, but nothing gets upgraded or changed in the Russian military on a scale that can compete. Plus, the training of F-16 pilots has been going on for years, provided by top guns with proven records.
If Russia is already having issues with their S300 S400 and EDSs as it is, then it's going to be hell on earth for every sickle-licker once air superiority is reestablished. Air superiority is the defining factor, always.

I suggest all of you do the same thing I do all the time, which is call them out and tell them that they are just kids living in the basement of their parents house and losers desperate for likes.
they brought a bloated whale, a frig and a oil tanker to gloat?...
Storage? It's like calling a pistol holster a storage device.
Why are valuble planes always parked in the open?
Because operating armored aircraft hangars requires a lot of personnel to operate and maintain in addition to being obvious targets for munitions. Ukraine's airfields have armored aircraft shelters from the Soviet Era, but their condition is quite poor due to decades of neglect.
@@Whiskey11Gaming OK sure but why then no cheap tent type things over the planes? Stop satelites or drones seeing if there is a plane beneath? Have lots of these cheap tents dotted about to make finding them harder? Spot a plane and it's a target, spot a tent and some uncertainty creeps in.
@@Bushcraft-xz6xdmaybe they were decoys or already broken down.
Preston, I’d ask you not refer to Ukrainian territory as ‘Ukrainian held territory’ as if it’s not their lands, their homes.
It's all Ukrainian territory. Some of it is Russian-held, and the distinction matters here.
It's American territory now
@@GWNorth-db8vn exactly
@@JoeBlow-wr5em America isn't the one annexing bits and pieces of it's neighbors in sham referendums.

Dude, have you seen their submarine lacking parts of its outer hull?
Need to provide pilot training for F - 16. What’s the realistic maximum training seats in training classes available?
Russia uses Belarus to launch military operations from its territory, so why not respond in kind.
The only Country that should be worried about escalation with NATO is Russia. Call their bluff. They wont do a damned thing.
billions of dollars for war machines and ammo isnt enough to call out nato escalation? fools
@lootbird After Russia invaded Ukraine you mean?
What planet are you on? A lot of people that still would like to enjoy their time on this planet while morons like you want to bring about the end of the World as we know it. Russia isn't messing about, that is why we're here otherwise, Ukraine would have NATO systems and likely a member of NATO by now as they intended based on Merkel, Biden and Zelensky... they all pulled the wool over Putin, the minsk smirking face of Zelensky as Putin was signing makes more sense now than it did then.
I mean sure. Why not? It's only arma-fucking-geddon if we're wrong.
@@lootbird and Russia isn't doing that? China isn't doing it at all right? Should NATO just watch while they do what they want? I get everyone has biases, but that doesn't make sense.
Step 1. Train Ukrainian pilots. Step 2. Provide them planes.
Eazy peezi, habibi?
In short would it be justified hitting NATO basis? Yes. Would it be smart? Not really.
I thought some of the F-16s were supposed to be delivered by some time in June
F-16s conducting air defense against Russian missiles and drones to defend Ukrainian civilians and territory, must be allowed to be based and to fly from NATO airbases. F-16s for strike purposes can be stationed and fitted in Ukraine.
why "must"?
i mean if nato planes did take off from Nato bases it would pretty much be the same thing russia has been doing... what the matter Puting i thought you had the best planes in the world an f16 shouldnt be to much for you to handle
Not necessarily the same at all. Nato isn't "involved" in the war. If ukraine starts using nato bases to launch attacks in Russia, that is a giant step towards direct war with Russia. Bringing us closer to ww3.
In the first year a Ukrainian plane landet in Romania (having some issues, or no airport left). I think it was refilled, but not rearmed and sent without weapons back. (Or so I remember)
We’re sending high tech military jets to Ukraine and the Russian navy is 90 miles off our coast is normal? Sorry my friend, this ain’t normal.
It isn't uncommon. Russian assets have been visiting Cuba for quite some years.
@@Grendel650It’s uncommon this time because Ukraine is using American high tech weapons to attack inside Mother Russia.
@landerman05 Ukrainians are using high tech weapons donated by America to defend themselves. You clearly meant that.
Russian visits to cuba are not new. Russia really doesn't need to expand this war further, she's struggling with the current conflict. So no, it really isn't significant.
So why did Russia and China
Get way with it in Korea?
No such technology like nowadays to have solid proof, also it was not on the USA border like in Cuba to really bother with the presence of Soviet and china military
We couldn’t strike Vietnam airplanes on the ground because of potential Russian advisors. Korean War shot down migs with the pilots having blonde hair…we should store all of them even ones coming and going from strike missions.
I guess that makes every military target in Russia viable as well.
Hold on 2. The Russians are launching planes from Belarus, why can’t Ukraine launch from Poland.
I like how we pulled Russias move by keeping units in territory they can't hit lol
Soooo many people fear mongering for clicks and even exaggerating and/or lying regarding the situation....
ruzzia sucks.
Doubt it.
