You can use all the salutations in the world, if you meet a rude Bajan you've had it. A couple of bank tellers tried to gjve me a bit of attitude. I may not be Barbados born, but they got some London 'tude back!

Service employees tend toward borderline rudeness & maybe indifference.

I was in Barbados for work years ago and we were self-catering. A visit to the supermarket cost more than double what I paid in the UK. I also had to watch for out of date foods, double pricing and torn /broken packaging as they had none of the rules we had in Europe. Not sure if this is still the case, but it's worth mentioning.

    1) Don't wear camouflage! Illegal!
    2) Don't go Au Naturale! Illegal (in public)
    3) Same as Mexico, Spain and Italy, respond to greetings!
    4) Beaches with yellow or red flags, DON'T GO IN!
    5) Food is not cheap.

A couple of other things. Sometimes on the menu you'll see dolphin. Dolphin in this case is the Dolphin fish and not Flipper. If you're from the US try the fish and chips.

Been lucky enough to visit Barbados twice (2018 and in August this year). Beautiful island, beautiful people, love it. One thing we did notice since our last visit was how expensive supermarkets are compared to here in the UK. Appreciate that a lot of goods have to be imported but wow, some seriously high prices on the shelves compared to 2018. C’est la vie.

    PLEASE READ:
    1) Yes …Stupid rule regarding cammo. I didn’t know and on the second day after my arrival, I had a car stopping in the middle of the street with guys yelling at me that I’ll surely be in trouble because of my short 🩳 pant camouflage.
And the police will not care even I’m an American Citizen.
I had to walk back trembling from the beach to my hotel to change my short pants.
    2) “Most” Barbados people are RUDE !!!!
Customer Service is nowhere to be found in hotels, stores.
    3) EVERYTHING is ridiculously expensive. Prices are 4 to 5 times more expensive than the US…Ridiculous.
    4) It’s SUPER HOT with the UV (ultraviolet level) always dangerously high…then it will rain 🌧 suddenly.
This is a July 2022 review.
I still have 5 days remaining and I can say it’s not the best Caribbean place I visited .
Sorry…and no offense to any Barbados person, but you can’t say the above points aren’t true.
I’m sure there’s plenty good things in Barbados, but my experience is currently not good.

I have to agree - I have been to dominican republic and barbados and i have to say i prefered the dominican - Don't get me wrong barbados was good and i don't have anything bad to say about the island and its an amazing caribbean paradise but the dominican is everything barbados is and so much more and the resorts are bigger and theres so much more choice and you have beaches in the dominican that are even better barbados best beaches and theres just so many more places to go and see in the DR.

I have to agree. It is very rundown and some of the local people are mean and not pleasent. They have a pride but the island is crumbling, needs infrastructure, and it is expensive. They are poor heren that is fine but I think there are better islands. The restaurants are trash too.
The beaches and water are amazing though. I'll give them that. However, there are better beaches in the Bahamas.
      I prefer the bahamas...

@@jamconnell1377 You have to understand that those resorts in DR are all foreign owned. It is one of the poorest countries after Haiti. It is one hundred times bigger than Barbados. Please compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges. Barbados was British while the DR was Spanish. there is lots of difference.

I'm sorry your trip was such as to leave you with mixed feelings. It really is aggravating to spend money on a vacation, only to encounter conditions that make you miserable. It's possible that some of these things about the country could have been learned from various websites. There isn't a country that doesn't have both good & bad, & that likely includes boundaries & limits. It's probably best to research whatever foreign country you want to vacation in so as to be up on their laws, expectations, weather, practices & beliefs...(etc). That way you'll be less likely to encounter unpleasant surprises.

That's probably because they're in the military. Camo is obviously reserved for military personnel, rather than banned altogether.

They have their own culture, customs, practices, habits, & attitudes. Even if the country is English speaking, it is not the US which has its own culture, history, practices & the like. It is unfair to compare them.
