Lee, I started to cry instantly. I had the privilege to live with my dog from a shelter for 10 months. I will be forever greatful for this experience. And my best friend summed it up just like that: "Barry was your dog and you were his human". And that says it all...

When my beautiful lab was ready for the rainbow bridge she waited for me to drive the 21 hour drive back to her( i was on vacation) to pass in my arms !! I drove nonstop to get to her. She literally passed 15 minutes after I walked in the door. I told her she was the best dog ever & it was ok to leave me. That was 8 yrs ago. I still feel the love she gave me. Fast forward, I now own ( or should I say he owns me😅) a beautiful goldendoodle that we share the same beautiful bond. Dogs are the best !!

Lee's love for all the other animals must be what keeps him going despite all the loss and resulting grief he must experience. Grief can be such a heavy burden. The other animals' love and companionship probably help lessen the heartache. May everyday be filled with tender mercies.
We lost our Skeeter a week and a half ago. What the vet thought was a bladder infection turned out to be internal hemorrhaging. It was too late by the time we realized something was really wrong. He had lost too much blood and was in too much pain. I was at work when my parents had the vet relieve his suffering. I still pick my shoes up off the floor even though he’s not here to steal them.😢 We have 16 rescue cats, but it’s quiet without our little Moe Squito. He got his name because he was a biter. I’m not sure most families would have put up with that, but he loved our cats, so he was perfect for us. They miss him too.😿 Shelby’s attitude reminded me of Skeeter.❤
So glad that Shelby got to feel love in his last few years of life. His bond with you showed that despite all his scars his heart was still intact and he was able to give and receive love. Amen.

I'm sorry, Lee. I can see he loved you immensely. Every animal should be this fortunate. To have someone like you who cares for them so well and loves them so very much until they cross over... I hope we get to be with our pets when we pass. If it was a definite, I think it would erase the fear of death from so many people's minds.

Sometimes, I wish we could treat people like this. You know, the broken ones. All beings just want to be loved and valued and nurtured. I love seeing the compassion for animals. It’s beautiful. I just wish we had the same capacity to care for humans. I know it’s more complicated. Still… I can’t help wishing.
