Girl With Real Tourettes Reacts To TikToker Baylen Dupree

  • Hey everyone! Today I wanted to react to Baylen Dupree - an influencer on TikTok who also has Tourette Syndrome. I wanted to talk about my opinions surrounding her tics, as well as provide some education in the process! This is formatted like my Tics and Roses videos, but with a different outcome! (:
As a girl with Tourette's, I would love to spread awareness and education about my disorder, as I feel it is quite misunderstood in today's society. The media has made it out to be a swearing disorder only, which is far from true. I hope this video will educate you on Tourette Syndrome and tic disorders! Life with Tourettes can be difficult, but just know that we're the same as everyone else...except for the fact we tic like clocks! (:
    Thanks for watching!

I have made a video or 2 on tik tok, but I don't talk more about it, for the same reason, I've had tics & body movements my whole life... I am 40 so back then nobody talked about it for they thought that Tourette tics were only for ppl who were severe & my family always picked on me, asking me why my face made weird movements & how I looked so peculiar, & they would copy me when I did it.. I was soooo embarrassed my whole life until Loren from 90 day Fiance was ticking through the first season. I immediately recognized it & season 2 came out & she started talking about it, & it gave me courage to come out & talk about it.. & that is when I realized I WASN'T WEIRD!!!! I can't control it, I try to mange in public, but that doesn't work. My husband will come up & wrap his arms around me & give me a bear hug to calm me down & my tics have changed as I've gotten older.. anyways I finally felt comfortable with it, my 13 yr old Autistic son also has tics also but then all of sudden "Catching tics & faking them" became popular so I went back in hiding.. That makes me so mad, ppl have nooo idea what we go through in life... & pretending like they have it, IS NOT CUTE...

My husband introduced me to Baylen Dupree’s tik tok videos and we laugh or smile at her videos, while having compassion for her. I had to step away from watching her because i wanted to make sure that I was watching to support her and understand and not just find it humorous. I don’t think there is a way “not to find humor” in some of her videos and I think (as someone also having a disability) she would want to humanize, entertain, and educate what she goes through. I am visually impaired and have recently started using public transportation in Pittsburgh. I use my cane but I am amazed how many people look at me and think I am faking or they look at me like they might “catch” what I have. I see parents pull their kids away from me instead of educating them to be aware of visually impaired people. I don’t have the “blind look” I have my central vision (very little, very very little) and absolutely no peripheral, no depth perception, I am color blind and have night blindness. IT SUCKS. But I live, I do everything that I can to be a part of society and if I am getting looks and comments from people just carrying a cane I can not even fathom what Braylen goes through when she has a tic out in public. People are rude and feel like they have the right to say something. We need to go back to the “if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all. Your video was great and glad to “see” it pop up in my suggestions. Take care

The main difference that makes me believe she's legit compared to Tics & Roses is her tic attacks are a bunch of different ones that she goes through one immediately after the other instead of one, a video cut, another specific tic, a video cut, etc. And to what you said about the building impulsivity, you could see it building and she insisted the other person take the first egg because she wanted to prevent exactly what happened with the second egg. Also, in that baking video, instead of someone just sitting back and filming to frame the "funny moments" she had someone there who clearly knows her struggles and can help when needed so she could still accomplish her tasks.

Obviously there are occasional cases of this actually happening like with Ticsandroses, but the way a lot of people's first impulse when they see someone with a disability online is to assume they're making it up for attention is pretty depressing.

I haven't seen much from Baylen Dupree. There was maybe one video of her putting on make up in some of these compilations, so I haven't seen many tics and I didn't think much about it.
It's like you said: She has repetitive tics, she's not laughing after every tic and there is more force behind her tics (don't know how to describe, but her yelling is very strong and her movements and punches, too) than in other videos from fakers. Fakers are always careful to not hurt themselves and they laugh after every single tic. Sure, there can be a funny situation, but that's rare. You can actually see her concern in the baking video and she asks for help, because she clearly knows she can't handle that. Fakers would have messed up their kitchen and laughed. She is open about the fact, that she can't drive. Fakers have the most severe tics while driving.
I'm so glad that I've seen your video and more about her to form an opinion.

First video of yours I've watched (I accidentally stumbled onto it... don't even recall how), but you're right. My 14-year-old daughter has Tourette's and her tics are very similar to both yours and Baylen's. She's also had the echoing tics, where she'd repeat movements and/or sounds. There have also been once or twice that she'd have a weird one-off tic and we'd be like, "what was that?" because of how uniform and "regular" her "normal" tics are.
But she also despises people faking Tourette's (or any other disorder... her brother, my son, is autistic and she's very protective) because she tries so hard to control hers. And no medication is really helping; her only other option is to go on some really strong antipsychotics which neither, I, she, nor her doctor, think is a good idea.
People should really stop faking illnesses. It makes it so much more difficult for those of us who really do suffer. Our children having mental diagnoses, and myself being physically disabled, I've been exposed to people either faking or - because of the fakers out there - accuse you of faking your real diagnosed illness. It's not fun being accused of faking being in pain and disabled, and I imagine it's not fun to be accused of faking Tourette's or autism (and from what I witness with my children, it's not).

People go to ridiculous lengths to not look stupid when they're shown the legitimacy of what they called out as fraud. I've been accused of faking blindness way too many times because I'm tech savvy and can walk while using my phone in one hand and a cane in the other, or doing things they'd expect of someone they consider normal. like smoking, dating, partying. Holding down a job. The worst case of really stupid I've ever heard of though was when someone accused this girl of faking blindness, when she literally had no eyes. I wish I could've seen the look on their face when she popped out her prosthetic and handed it out to them lol.

also side note, doctor phil is absolutely not a reputable source. he’s known to have absolutely anybody on the show if he thinks it can get views. he doesn’t really do much in the way of helping the people on the show, and when he does, they go to questionable people for help. the ranch is a great example of that. the ranch is known for its questionable practices. i highly suggest looking into it! not your fault for thinking that he was a good guy, he’s done everything in his power to fool people into thinking that

I just found your channel on my Suggestions page. I've seen some of Baylen Dupree's videos and I felt that she truly did have tourettes. Her Tics were very random and you could sometimes see the frustration in her face. I saw your video exposing Tics and Roses and I had seen one or two of her videos before too. She to me did not have "tics" because it was random stupid stuff she did. (Like putting the bag on her head).

It was because of her baking video due to the eggs and flour, they won’t be repetitive tics and we’re isolated for the situation. They also seem enhanced at times for comedic effect. I’m in no way calling her a fake or fraud as I’m far from a medical expert, I was just after more understanding. Its none of our business. And people shouldnt have to prove whether they are or arent fake. It should never have to come to that in the first place. Its not fair to those with disabilities who just want to live there life and post content without having to argue with people everyday about whether or not theyre legit. Just let people live there lives, let the ones who are faking it get called out for it, so that they can get banned or just loose all their views all together. Btw im saying its perfectly fine for content creators to call out the people who are lying, and praise the ones who are telling the truth. We need to help the general audience to know which is which. So that we can just ignore the fakers and not agg them on. And we can support the ones who are telling the truth and hype them up and praise them. And never give the fakers attention again. There is a difference between content creators calling these fakers out, and then just regular people with an account sh*t talking these people in their comment section. Dont give them the time of day. Just watch these videos so you know who not to give the views too.

I highly doubt she had to show her diagnostic paperwork. 🫤 I don’t comment on her videos and obviously I’m in the minority in THIS comment section, but I do raise my eyebrows at a few things. For as often as she tics in all her Tourette’s-related posts, she seems to be able to post decently-long ‘thirst trap’ videos without any tics. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything, I get it, I’m not a doctor. But coupled with the fact that she also seems to lose track of what she’s saying if she has a vocal tic, and sort of has to consciously reorient herself to what she was just saying… something about that seems off. Maybe it’s not, again I’m not a doctor. Maybe it just catches my attention bc I’ve noticed that before in debunked people, so I’m tuned into it. The difference being that you and the other people I’ve known with Tourette’s (friends I grew up or went to college with) have tics as involuntarily as breathing or blinking-there’s no pauses or ‘shifting gears’ back because your conscious brain is focused on what you’re saying or doing, not thinking about the tic itself. Please don’t assume I’m ‘coming for her’ because I’m just saying that if she’s getting fakeclaimed, I’m guessing those might be some of the things people assume are red flags.

@@AnotherPersonYouDontKnow (this response got a little longer than I originally intended...)
I suppose if I have to identify with a side, I'm on your side. It just feels really fishy to me. I'm willing to accept that I may be completely off base, but my gut tells me she's faking it. Like I said, I'm not inclined to hop in her comments and say she's fake, etc, but a lot of the reason is I don't want to be arguing with strangers on the internet about whether or not someone I don't even know has a medical condition.
HOWEVER, people who are malingering, whether or not she's one of them... it is one of the grossest things you can do. Pretending to have a disorder (Tourette's, DID, bipolar, etc) for clout, attention, whatever--awful on all counts. Bad for you, worse for the communities who do have those conditions. Like, let's say for a second Baylen isn't faking, is 100% authentic and you and I are dead wrong--could all the OTHER fakers be the reason we're doubting her from the get go?
I also always wonder about malingerers who are able to convince their family or people IRL--like, what's the plan here? Are you going to fake it the rest of your life? Is this a post-adolescent phase that you may end up regretting/finding super cringey later on (like I imagine the people claiming to be fairies will)? Especially if you end up with tons of followers or become semi famous; are you committed to this, or is it going to somewhat ruin your life? Will TikTok shenanigans come back to haunt you? Will you end up admitting it to someone and get publicly shamed? It's hard for me to wrap my head around, and I wonder if fakers think at all about the potential consequences of what they're doing.
There was a well-known lady in my community that lied about being a 3x breast cancer survivor; on one hand, she raised a HELL of a lot of money for breast cancer research, but on the other, she screwed over a lot of people. A local dealership gave her a free car, people all over town bought her drinks (despite it being obvious she was a bit of an alcoholic) and gave her money personally, and she was treated like a celebrity. When she ended up in the hospital for liver failure, the truth came out when her family asked the doctors about her breast cancer BS and there were zero records or evidence of any kind. She ended up dying from cirrhosis while she was being publicly exposed as a fraud and everyone, including her family, had turned against her. You have to wonder how much of her drinking issues were caused by guilt and the stress of maintaining her lies, and that story is always in the back of my mind when I see questionable content creators or see people who seem to be profiting from a condition that seems inauthentic.

@@dreychestnutt I 100% agree! But when it comes to fairy’s, it’s usually just kids messing around and having fun. I’ve never seen a fairy account on YT until “Sunflower and Daisey” I find their content pretty entertaining and I support the kids running it cause it’s kinda cute. I love the fake fairy’s and stuff like that, but when it comes to disorders it’s just horrible and disgusting. I have a disorder of my own and if someone FAKED it I would go absolutely crazy. And when your struggling with something like Tourette’s, I feel like it’s easy to spot a fake. So she’s either really good at faking, or really struggling with Tourette’s and if she is I would be a bad person and I’d feel so bad.

Thanks so much for speaking on behalf of Baylen! She is truly a warrior and spokesperson for Tourettes Syndrome. I watch all her videos, and yours as well. I am 70yrs. old and had tics since grade school. It started with facial, and verbal came later. Now I get them when I'm stressed, and when I see someone having them. Just keep the conversation going and never stop!! There will always be naysayers!! Thanks again! Artie

I have Tourette's and was diagnosed at about age 7, with all the tics, OCD, rage attacks and whatever goes along with it. Now at 48 I still struggle, mainly the impulsive behavior, OCD, some shakes and turning my head to the side. It's very difficult for people who don't understand it. Because it is so exceptionally rare to this day. And people mistake it for so many different things. Glad these ladies are coming out about it, it's nothing to be ashamed of for sure. THANKS!!

TikTok needs to have the plug pulled. Nothing good comes out of there- it all eventually degrades or is warped into a jumbled mess of just plain noise. It is soooooo negative I dropped it. Always made me feel depressed & down on myself - I was sucked right into the heart of the beast. No good at all. I dropped my account & immediately felt better. And kids use it?!?! It is creating an entire generation that has no empathy, only sarcasm & cancel culture.

I hate my Tourette’s. My eyes roll back in my head all day everyday and it is very annoying and quite uncomfortable. It makes me super self-conscious because people always think I’m being pretentious and rolling my eyes to things they say and that just isn’t the case. It is an uncontrollable tic. I also cough all day long and blow my nose a lot, too.

I can’t believe people think she’s faking it! Tourette’s just sounds awful to live with and I truly feel bad for those who have it. I don’t have Tourette’s but I do have IED (intermittent explosive disorder) which is a mental disorder and is basically just categorized as rage attacks. They happen frequently with me and it can get messy sometimes though I am able to diffuse my words pretty well.
More light needs to be shined on neurological, mental, and physical disorders!
