IS AQUARIUM HOBBY DYING?

- There have been several major challenges for our hobby within past few years and another ones are rising. Rapid increase in energy prices are causing that many people are getting rid of their aquariums. Older generation of breeders is slowly passing away and there are only very few young enthusiasts willing to take Over.
Today we will discuss whether the Aquarium hobby is really dying, and what can we do to preserve it for our future generations.

We are in a difficult period of time, and it is undeniable that many people are having to make sacrifices between life's necessities and other luxuries. I am very hopeful that planted nano tanks will flourish, while large fish only aquariums will likely reduce in popularity.
Living without any nature in our homes seems too harsh.
Exactly. It is even more important now to understand the importance of live plants. I believe the hobby will flourish again once this all is over. I am glad I have so many cool subscribers sharing the same passion 👌🏻💪🏻
I think that we need more youtube videos on basic aquarium setup and care. New people are seeing high costs and all the other time consuming and difficult equipment etc. Maybe its time to show old fasioned box filtration and the hardy easy to grow plants more often. Simple basics.

Thank you for your video. I’m still going with my 120L and 54L dirted (cheap bagged top soil) planted Endler tanks. I’ve looked at running costs, and LED lighting and heaters don’t cost too much to run. I don’t need to do too many water changes as they are small fish and not over stocked. I also have Amano shrimp, Malaysian Trumpet Snails and Ramshorn snails as a clean up crew. It all stays pretty stable and low maintenance. I can see that a Marine set up would be pretty pricey or a large planted tank running with Co2 and expensive dirt. As you say, a small set up ran naturally with plenty of plants could be achieved at a very small cost. All the best with your channel!
@spike91 I am running very similar set-up but on more and smaller tanks. Plants help a lot with cleaning water so water changes do not need to be so frequent. Thank you very much for your comment and good luck with your tanks 😊
Unfortunately here in the United States most pet shop fish carry some kind of diseases and die soon after purchase this really discourages new fish keepers from starting
Yea. Would be much better to take first fish from local hobbyist. Not only they are used to local water parameters, but usually are also well kept and much more hardy 😊
Ima new comer to this hobby. I agree. It is an expensive in the beginning but I love my tank and what you said about relaxation and mental. 100% on que.

i don't know about people leaving the hobby or not but i know a large contributor to ppl not joining the hobby is the information put out.. i've had multiple people talk to me (friends/family) and say they want an aquarium but it's too expensive or it's too much work.. because..
you look online to research before buying a pet... online you find..
you need this $300+ light, you need X, Y, or Z, subtrate, you need a $700 CO2 system.. etc.. etc.. as well as all this stuff like you have to do water changes every week and all the other stuff they say you "need" to do..
while sure if you want to show your tank at events/win awards with it or something all that stuff might help.. but isn't needed..
you don't need expensive light, you don't need CO2, you don't need a crazy filter (or even any filter in a properly planted/scaped tank) if tank is built right you often don't need to do water changes and your maintenence is generally trim some plants... just hard to find anyone who'll actually be saying that online (though it's getting out there more now with a couple YT channels)
Very well described and I cannot agree more 😊 I understand that selling more aquarium equipment means more profit for fish stores, but we should definitely be talking more about low tech planted tanks as well.

Just about to drop a few thousand euro's on a new aquarium so definitely a fan of our hobby, the bad news is that I'm almost 70 years old and after I pass the tank and all will end up being thrown out.
Let's hope that it won't be 😊 glad to hear at least someone is setting up new tank 😊👌🏻
