I've always admired your ability to communicate what we're about to see, and I try to work that into my own presentations, as well. This is great because the end result looks so complex, yet, watching you develop and build it looks remarkably easy. The one thing that got me the most was your attention to the base of the trees. For me, at least, I think that's an area many beginner artists may not be quick to attend to, as the rush is to get to those foliage areas. Again, it goes to your experience and ability to stay focused with intent. Always a treat, Steve. Happy Easter to you and your family, and I love the Psalm you chose for the ending. Very classy! Stay well, my friend. ~ Mark
Jon Gnagy taught about trees entering the forest floor years ago. A gift for my Dec. Birthday when I was an early teens my parents gifted me with both of his sets I am blessed with the learning I received from those. I am also blessed with your teachings. Thank you very much. Blessings to you and your family...Mr. Mind of watercolor.
Thanks for the encouraging comments Mark. They always mean a great deal coming from another pro like yourself. It usually means you notice the seemingly minor, inconsequential things (which really aren't) others seem to miss.
There he goes again, The Wizard of Watercolor, creating something from nothing. Steve never ceases to amaze with his creations, Thank you for sharing your process and remarkable talent.
Happy Belated Birthday, Steve! This makes me nostalgic for spring in the South. We’re still waiting here in the Pacific Northwest. Beautiful as always.
Bought my set of paints last fall from Wet Paint which is in my neighborhood! I love them! I learned about them from your videos. So thankful I live near this great store!
I think that painting needs to go on the packaging to your new M Graham Gouache set! Yeah… that sounds good…You and Rita have a very blessed Easter Sunday! 🤗
This blew me away! So well exolained and demonstrated! A joy to watch. Thise colours are perfect. I bought the single colours M.Graham here in 🇩🇪 as your set is not available. My first MG set and loved it. Great selection of single pigments and transparent colours. Thank, Steve!
I always learn something from your videos beyond what you are concentrating on; today it was using backruns to create the foliage shapes before painting the gouache. Brilliant!
Hubby and I just did a road trip from Seattle to Southern California and back. We took pic of trees on the entire trip for reference. Your balance of loose watercolor mixed with some detail is inspiring. You speed up the tutorials in just the right place too. Get job!!! We look forward to the next video!
I'm so glad there are more M.Graham sets coming! I bought mine over a year ago and I love it. It was my first palette of professional w/cs and while I have added others since then, I definitely plan to buy another Mitchell M.G. set pretty soon. It is a great combination of paints!
Happy Birthday to you, Steve. I can never tire of watching you do your magic. I purchased your colors, but not by set. Rather, I bought them individually and added a few more along the way. M. Graham paints are my absolute favorites. This rendition of a spring forest is inspiring. And the music puts you in the mood to play with nature and bring it to life on paper. Bless you.
I’m learning so much from you. Your videos are so enjoyable to watch, your explanations are so clear and I love the music you choose. Your wealth of experience and talent shines through. I always make sure I wait until the very end for the quote. Very uplifting ❤
Loved the results and enjoyed the music for this video. And I love the spontaneous painting approach. We are just heading into autumn where I am but I know this technique will work for any season. I almost can’t help myself from adding gouache to many of my watercolour pieces. It’s all so much fun.
Thank you for this..I love the spring..we've had such a miserable winter here in the uk..as usual!..the blossoms are on the trees..saying that autumn is my favourite season. The colours are simply beautiful...love all your vids btw thank you
Hi Steve and Happy Birthday!!! Jim from Madrid, Spain (an expat New Yorker living abroad - all legal!!!).😅👍 I've been watching your videos on "painting loose", such as this one and I've been experimenting myself and... it us not as easy as you show on your videos! But... it is helping me a lot on my creative side and has been a launch pad to include other techniques for more abstract whilst still somewhat realistic pieces... So thank you! One thing though... I would LOVE to BUY your 10 watercolor MGraham set but... it is almost impossible to get in Spain or within the EU. MGraham is not available overseas and it's a shame, 'cause I would lobe to try them out. I just built my own new 18 colour palette with Daniel Smith (which is available over here in the EU), besides Windsor & Newton which is more common, for example (as well as other top brands), but MGraham is really difficult to find... Maybe you could ask and talk to them to se why they're not more international? Because they seem to be really good watercolors (from everything I've seen). In any case, I will try to BUY your set somehow in the future, mainly because of your colour choices as a start up base. Wish me luck! 😁👍👍 Cheers from Madrid!!!
Hullo Steve, Happy Birthday! I have finally purchased my first set of M.Graham watercolors it is a 10 color set and I guess I have you to thank for that. I have spent most of my paint money on DaVinci paints. I recently just finished purchasing Denise Soden’s wonderful opaque watercolors set as well as 15 ML tubes to refill as I use them, as well as offer to friends small sample pans to get them to try these amazing paints. I would enjoy watching your video using the Denise’s Opaque watercolors, any chance? I look forward to testing out my new M.Graham set after it arrives. Thank you for continuing to be a fan and continuing to show just how wonderful these M.Graham paints work. Wishing you all the best, many happy returns. Please take care and be well.
Nice video. Your M. Graham set was my intro to watercolors and it did not disappoint! I have added other brands and colors to my paint collection, but your set remains a go-to.
Steve...I've been watching you for years now and I've learned so much from you. I love the loose watercolors you paint. Watching you paint inspires me to just get after it and keep practicing and trying new techniques. I wanted to ask...do you ever watch other you tube paint channels? I just discovered a new channel...Sarah Burns Studio. She lives in Scotland and does a lot of pleinair landscapes with watercolor and gouache. I've really enjoyed watching her process. Thanks for sharing with us. Happy Birthday and Happy Easter! HE IS RISEN...HE IS RISEN INDEED...
Yes, I watch other art TH-cam channels almost daily. Mostly in the morning with coffee and breakfast 😁. I've been watching Sarah's Channel for a while now. Good stuff! He is Risen Indeed!
When it started out I was a bit bewildered as to how you were going to ‘save’ this painting. It was a lot of fun watching you pull it out to be something really amazing. Going to watch this one several times in order to try to catch all the things you did to make this picture complete. -OkieSketcher1949
Very helpful explanation of the process and supplies used for this painting. What was the last brush you used for the thin lines of trees? Layering and adding small details is something I’m going to try. Thank you for sharing your expertise. It’s very helpful! Happy birthday 🎈
Not sure I understood what you meant by the transparent glaze you did with the chartreuse. Can you say more about that? What did you use for that. Thanks!
Glazing is really an oil painter's term but watercolorists have sort of adopted it. It just means a very thin, transparent color layer that changes the color or value or in this case intensifies the color.
So, the M.Grahm Mind of Watercolor set - it has honey. One of my palates (spelling???) has honey based paints by Renesans. I like the paints but found out the hard way that they melt when it's hot, making a big mess if I carry them out of the studio. Are the M. Grahm honey based paints subject to similar hot weather melting???
Some say yes but I’ve had no problems. I don’t really use them much for location painting but when I have it’s been fine. They make up my main studio palette.

Thanks. Jon Gnagy was the first artist I ever learned from. I was 9 or 10 at the time.
Yes I agree that greens are so different in the early spring! Glad to see another recipe for green!
So enjoy your teaching!Have been watching you for years and everything I have seen has been delightful!
I keep telling myself, “Steve says this is the ugly stage”. Some of my ugly stages turned out to be the best. Thanks.
Happy Birthday Steve!🎉

Wow, this little painting is so pleasing to look at!
Ohhhh how I long for spring. Here in NY, supposed to be in 70’s next week. Cannot wait ! 🐣🐰🐌🦋🐛🌳🌱🌿🍃🌷🌷🌺🌸🌼🌻🌞🌞🌞🌞

Lovely...like the first green glowing in the sun. Happy Birthday and happy Easter to you and your loved Ones.
Happy birthday, Steve!!! 🎉 I can't wait to try this lovely spring idea! Thank you so much and a very happy Easter to you and your dear family 🌸🌺🌸🌺🍃

Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experiences!🙏🏾☺️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love! I’ve been taking pictures of the beautiful greens in front of the dark rain clouds. Just beautiful !
Super easi simple and lovely pédagogique methode. Tanks!
As always, you made my day! Beautiful Thank you
Simply gorgeous looking dogwoods! Definitely a great Spring painting.
M. Graham...thanks to you are my favorite.
Yay!
Axed at your thinking process. You let the painting speak to you. This was stunning.

I love your spontaneous landscapes! So fun. No stress.
Thanks so much!
I look at him do these, and I think “HOW does he see this!”
Thank you! And a very happy birthday!
Happy Easter to you and your family!
I got your watercolor palate when it first came out and to this day it is one of my most
Loved and used .
I like "the ugly stage". I'm going to remember that.
I'm so glad there are more M.Graham sets coming! I bought mine over a year ago and I love it. It was my first palette of professional w/cs and while I have added others since then, I definitely plan to buy another Mitchell M.G. set pretty soon. It is a great combination of paints!

Happy birthday Steve
I still love your M. Graham set, and use it all the time. It’s brilliant, clean, and I can mix anything. I added a white to it, otherwise perfect!!
I absolutely love this, thank you!
Happy birthday, fellow Diamond!! I am a double Diamond--April bday Arkansawyer!
Great techniques. Thank you. I’ve never approached a background that way. 😊
I’m learning so much from you. Your videos are so enjoyable to watch, your explanations are so clear and I love the music you choose. Your wealth of experience and talent shines through. I always make sure I wait until the very end for the quote. Very uplifting ❤
I love that set - beautiful colors.
MAGIC, thank you 😊🌼🌈
I got the set when you first announced it and added a few additional colors. M Graham is nice and I'm considering trying their gouache .
"Nature's first green is gold." Robert Frost
Also interesting that you’re starting with a very dark color!
I’m using your M. Graham mixing palette right now. I love it and that is was a collaboration with Wet Paint, so much ❤.
Loved the results and enjoyed the music for this video. And I love the spontaneous painting approach. We are just heading into autumn where I am but I know this technique will work for any season. I almost can’t help myself from adding gouache to many of my watercolour pieces. It’s all so much fun.
Happy shared Birthday month, Steve! Mine's today, and this was a fantastic present. :)
This is a great idea! My tree trunks created blooms. I used a piece of sea sponge to lift paint, which worked well.
Thank you for this..I love the spring..we've had such a miserable winter here in the uk..as usual!..the blossoms are on the trees..saying that autumn is my favourite season. The colours are simply beautiful...love all your vids btw thank you
Happy Birthday. i love spring too-my birthday was a few days ago
Happy Birthday Mr Steve🎉
Love this!!!!!
Happy Birthday!!! Whatever part of April it’s in. I’m a March baby and where I live it snows yet every year on my birthday.

Happy Birthday!

This was fascinating to watch come to life! Your words are as beautiful as your painting, and your music completed the video. Thank you, Steve!
Fantastic! I can’t wait to try it. I also love the special greens of spring. Thank you.

Happy birthday Steve (my birthday is in April too🙂). Great video, thank you 👍
Was more difficult than i thought, with a mediocre result, but i’m glad I tried something different.
Thanks for sharing your techniques.
This is great. Such a beautiful job indeed.
Well, I'll be dipped. Lifting out is how you make fog. 😮
Thanks!
Thanks so much Larry!
That was great. I’d really like more videos of Gouache and watercolor combined. Thank you.
Amazing 😊

Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing; I love watching your landscape paintings.
About your sketchbook, is this one you made?
No it’s a Hahnemuhle.
@@mindofwatercolor oh shoot, yes you talked about that one in another video. Not affordable for me up here 🇨🇦 unfortunately 😠
My paintings have that bad stage all the way to the end...lol🥰

Do you think splatting might work for this, too?
It could. A bit less controllable.
I always say I line mind solders up in a row. 😂 really have to work on being random.
Who, again, makes the lovely hand thrown, roundish greenish water bowls, please?

What is this SPRING you speak of? Such a strange word, SPRING. 😂 Here in Southeast Idaho we still have four feet of snow on the ground! 😳
😂
