    For anyone doing this job, once the belt is off test your clutch pulley..it should spin in the clockwise direction and not anticlockwise. Generally the tensioner can fail when the alternator pulley is failing.

      True, i have that problem, but dont have parts for generator, do you know how long it can go before it break a new belt or tensioner if i not repear the generator?

    A lot of work for one bolt 😊 In the past I thought I had problem with tensioner but actually it was alternator clutch pulley which pulls tensioner. Nice job!

    I've never owned a car that has an engine sitting sideways like that. As you say, a few amount of bits have to come off first, but all in all it didn't look too bad. I think your skills helped make it look easy too.

      I wanted to thank you from Belgium because it is a f****** moment and I mean, Audi engineers are crazy to imagine a such complicated access for a "simple" belt tensioner... Crazy crazy crazy !

    In a lot of cases the jumping tensioner could be a consequence of the failing alternator clutch pulley, so once the belt is out it may worth checking. It should freewheel to one direction and should drive the alternator to the other.

That failed, and I’ve never seen so many lights come on the instrument cluster. “ re the speedo “ I made the mistake of undoing the bolt on the tensioner. I now need a new tensioner and belt. “ mind you it was my first time doing it. “ But I will know for next time.

    Whats the torque spec for the bolt??

    • @CarsExposed
      @CarsExposed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Technical data don't show any torque spec for it , it will be one of those situations where tight is tight , I would guess around 30nm but its going to be pretty hard to get a torque wrench in there 👍

    Next generation of Vag cars: you need to lift off engine to replace something little like this tensioner.

    Better to buy OEM tensioner.... These aftermarket are weak and rattle a bit.... Anyways not such hard work replacing.... Lock tensioner with pin.... Only remove front engin mount and drop AC pump then u have access to tensioner bolt.... I need to take out alternator now cause it seems clutch bearing ot something ia wrong there....makes singing noise
