Starling Furniture creates handcrafted period furniture, including grandfather and grandmother tall case clocks, Portsmouth chests, sideboards, tables and more.
Living in New England and seeing it as a treasure house of design and history is a wonderful start. Having the opportunity to build period furniture in my family's old boat building shop with all its tools and traditions completes my story. For over 25 yrs I have had the pleasure of of building period inspired furniture for some of New England's most beautiful and fascinating new and old historic homes.

There’s something beautiful about this type of television. I’m sad that I couldn’t experience it in my lifetime.

You can never beat the classic sound of a grandfather clock's chime

Beautiful. My father got one as a gift from his employer for 25 years of service back in 1978. I was 12 then; my brother and his wife up in Pennsylvania still have it 44 years later. I'm inspired to build my own.

Great job, old school without 3D mills and tricked out machines. It is only a pity that the master did not show the machining of the curved part of the decorative crown with a router. Thanks for the video.

Great to see real creativity from real people. Nowadays everything is cheap plastic crap from China that never lasts. Before mass manufacturing there were more individual creativity and great craftsmen who had been in these trades for generations. Good to see some of this is still alive.

Lots of stuff is neither cheap nor made in China :) But I admit most stuff is cheap and made in China. But made in China doesn't make something bad. Depends on the company and QC and such. For example, computers have very technical and precision electronics made in China, and will probably last a long time, depending on the components in the computer; I usually build my own computer from reliable companies, so that the power supply and other critical parts are pretty good. I disgressed; I know you can still buy swiss made watches ( if you have the money,) US made cookware ( like skillets from Lodge,) and other stuff. The buyer gets to decide, and has a lot of options.

There’s long case clocks from the 1600s with extensive highly detailed veneer. Veneer dates back to ancient Egypt.

"The lathe is an ancient tool. The earliest evidence of a lathe dates back to Ancient Egypt around 1300 BC." (Wikipedia) - look it up. I suggest you look something up prior to making a slur against anyone FU.
