- Sorting thru old VHS tapes I've hauled all over the country for 35 years--I found this RARE little GEM from The Captain & Tenille. They open with a nice little chat session and then Toni tells of writing the song Christmas In California. They look great and sound awesome--as always! From a local Los Angeles T.V. program hosted by Gary Collins on Dec 24, 1990, sit back and enjoy Christmas In California from The Captain & Tenille.
Knowing what I've read from Toni's book, she really loved him but he never showed his love back due to major psychological problems. He was abused as a child. Poor Toni, she had so much love to give, she deserved that love back!
After reading the book you know the truth about the relationship but he just looks at her with so much love like he’s so proud of her. I know he told her he had always loved her after they divorced. It’s such a shame he couldn’t show it while they were married. I know she absolutely loved him with all her heart

Thank you for posting this. Did you notice the voice that announces the show's opening is the same one who used to announce the weekly promos for Captain & Tennille's variety show in 1976-77? That's Ernie Anderson, and he says "Captain & Tennille" in the exact inflection he used 14 years earlier. Do a search for "ABC promos & KOMO station ID October 1976" and you'll see what I mean.
Enough with the insensitive "Bucket Kickers" nonsense!
