I loved building this kit along with the derby car. This reissue is slightly improved from the 90's version in that AMT eliminated the sink marks on the sides of the roof. It was great fun to build
This is a great kit. I just finished one of my own. The big discrepancy I found with it is that the instructions have us putting the console in backwards. According to all of the pics of the 1:1 cars Ive seen on Google it is just the opposite of the instructions so I installed mine correctly. Like I said though great kit. I love the blue on yours. I opted for white with black roof. Happy modeling
Wow... this is a new one for me ! Very cool w/ extra goodies ✌😎 Model kits are always better with a little extra.... like engine stand,lift.... etc. ! 😉 ( or just another hood, rims, tires 😆 ) I'm not talking diorama here just a few extra items for a complete kit ☺
CJ I think you'll like the kit but watch the hood clearance on the air cleaner. U might have to shave a little off the carb or bottom of the air cleaner to let the hood drop all the way down. - Doug
Nice build. Just found your video and weirdly I'm doing mine virtually the same colour. Bought mine still sealed and it didn't come with that cardboard display stand though.
Have they done a second release of this version? I have the exact same kit with the new tool Derby car, same decals, five spoke mags, pad print Polyglas tyres, box art etc.
The Soapbox Derby car was first released in 1969 with a 69' annual El Comino kit. The annual had soft detail around the upper doors and elsewhere. Happily this Derby car comes with a 68' El Camino tooled during the late nineties and is much more detailed.
Wasn't Auto World a mail order hobby kit store? Nice build, don't see many with heater and a/c lines. FYI, the large GM a/c compressor ( which were known as the pregnant whale) were flat black.
CS - Yes and it still is but I'm not sure if that's what they are referring to with that decal. The engine in this kit is well detailed and it's not too bad overall. -Doug
KC, actually they did that one back in 1968, but not since. The AMT Annual version goes for about $300 bucks nowadays AMT #5628-200. It's available in diecast for a lot less though! -Doug
hey been enjoying the channel I just subscribed actually I did the Ferrari Portuguese Grand Prix model with you it came out very nice I was wondering if you could do a Ferrari f60 by tamiya id# 200059 appreciate your channel and I will keep watching thank you
I had the same problem. Glue the bed to the chassis first, it then aligns the interior sides so you can then fit the package tray and dash without it all falling apart.
CLN, Not always. Our intent is to inform our viewers of a kit's issues that would prevent a successful build. On the other hand, sometimes an extreme close-up will show a witness mark or "ghost" line where the flash was removed. Either way we offer a money back guarantee if you're not completely satisfied! -Doug

CF, Yes this one's been released before! -Doug
Mine even says the Free Derby Kit Display base is included on the side of the box, but it wasn't.
CF, Wow, another faux pas by the manufacturer! -Doug
And aill say again great job and i like this one and color u use on it. Keep them coming.

Keef -Thanks and I'll look for one of those kits to do in the future. -Doug
I just about threw this kit in the trash the other day after having difficulty putting the interior together
LD, Have patience and remember that you must dry fit all components there! -Doug
I had the same problem. Glue the bed to the chassis first, it then aligns the interior sides so you can then fit the package tray and dash without it all falling apart.
You don't take any time to sand or trim the mould lines
