This was a great video and the explanation at the end sums it up nicely. Cheapest light upgrade I found for a Toyota: Replace the low beam bulb with a high beam bulb. Just need to remove a little plastic insert from the plug to let the high beam fit. The light housing/geometry still creates a very crisp cutoff so no blinding people. The high beams don't have the lifespan of standard bulbs but at $12 per bulb it is super cheap to keep an extra bulb or two tucked somewhere. It isn't bright like the sun, but it is simple and a large improvement over the amazingly bad stock.
@@208Tylertimeless is a better word. It will still look fantastic 5 years from now where a lot of those blacked out or super custom ones will be obviously dated
You’d probably be looking at replacing an individual part, like the bulbs if they go out. i want to say those are $50 a pair. I would say most people sell their vehicle before the retrofits ever break down.
When it comes to optic, size does mater. That's why you should have probably gone for the 3" mini D2S since the headlight is large enough for it, it should be about 30% brighter. For the small light scatter out of the projector, it's probably because you have some light leak between the projector shroud and the factory reflector. Also, that cheap projector was aimed at the sky ^^
@@208Tyler oh, then yes, I didn’t realize the difference was significant. At 1:53 you can clearly see that the LED is aimed way higher than the HID, so at least one of them is badly aimed ;)
Thank you, i just purchased the Y12, I put LEDS in my tundra and they are just bad and not made the housing. the Y12 seems like a noticeable updrage because I am a broke college student too poor for retrofit. plus the 15% off makes it just $52!

Hi Tyler, Thanks for the great job on many Gen 1 topics!! I just bought my '06 4WD in Nov '23. Pushing to get it ready for a western US tour and dual sport bike ride of The TaT (Telluride to Pacificcoast) pulling a 24' toyhauler. The truck, toy hauler and the bike are all recent purchases . Point, no time for deeply involved but necessary mods. This headlight mod is very attractive for safety sake. I'm wondering if the Morimotos are available already installed in the new housings by anyone reliable such that I might save the time of baking, modifying and re-sealing.....? Thanks Chris
I just installed mini projectors yesterday... Now I'm sold on a real retrofit 🤣Also I wanna say I love your videos, keep it up!
Oh no! Haha. The retrofit is awesome. Thank you, I really appreciate you watching and commenting!
Really like the data driven and light testing reviews/explanations, thank you!
I appreciate the comment, thanks!

Good video! I've been wondering about this. Definitely prefer the 5k color temp as well 👍😎👊
Thank you! Ya, the warmer white is alot better color.

Well put together, they turned out great. I think the oem look is the best, keeps it classy
Thank you! Ya keeping it OEM-ish turned out great.

Ya man. Well said, it is timeless!
I paid the big bucks for the projectors and so happy I did!
Ya man, projectors are awesome! I’m glad I finally got them
Great video as always! I wish more manufacturers put out 5000K LEDs, they're just an amazing color temp for driving.
Thank you! Ya the color temperature in these is great, I like it a lot
you installed a whole new d2s hid system, no wonder its way better then the mini co light system, great video!!!!
Yup! Haha thanks
I like how the Morimoto setup seals out dust and moisture way better than cheesing the boot around a miniprojector.
It does. And they offer custom boots that work with their light plugs
My projector retrofits cost a pretty penny but I use them every night. 🙂
Exactly! A good pair of headlights is something you’ll use all the time
How is the cost of repair if these break or wear out? Thank you for the great videos, your work and thoughts help immensely.

@@208Tyler That is good to know. It really seems worth it to retrofit.
Ya! In my opinion it definitely is!
Do you think the mini-projectors are a worthwhile upgrade over OEM? Or is it better to just skip them and spend the extra on full size projectors
The miniprojectors are like 1.25-1.75x as good as stock. The projectors are more like 2-5x better than stock. Hope that helps with your decision

I chose the projector based on price. The makes sense.
No…. The mini projector was aimed alright. I tested that all out when I first installed it

At 1:53 what you’re seeing is the cutoff line disappear due to scatter above the cutoff line.

For the difference in price you can get updated co-light headlights and some high quality 3” pod lights
For the price of what exactly…?

Great job bro ..thanks for the video

Did co light update the mini projectors? My mini projectors look a lot bigger than yours. I wonder if that makes much of a difference.
To my knowledge, the Y12 H4 has not changed...

TEQ customs, among a few others, can do it. But I think they’re over a month lead time?
Which co light is it?
The light and the discount code are in the video description!
