$699 500 Watt Bird Bike E-bike Review

  • This is a review of the A-frame bird electric bike. Bird is famous for electric rental scooters, and a couple of years ago they decided to build a Bird electric bike. The bird E bike looks very modern and has a lot of style to it, but is it any good? In this review and test ride I show you what is good and bad about the Bird e-bike. The Bird company is in financial trouble right now, and, you can find these bird E bikes brand new on eBay or Amazon for $699, which is a great deal. if you are looking for a cheap bike, that is good quality, this e-bike has better components than anything else in that price range. This is a 100% street legal bike that is comparable to the Vanmoof bicycles from Holland. The original price on the Bird ebike was $2200, and it was a sales failure, as people did not want to buy the bird ebike for that price. You get a lot for your money if you buy this bird bike at the new low closeout price. It has a 36 Volt 12 amp hour battery, 500 Watt Bafang hub motor, disc brakes, an alarm, carbon belt drive, and good quality Kenda e-bike tires. if you’ve seen the Bird bike on sale, cheap lately, and you wonder how good or bad it is, and if it’s a good deal for a belt drive electric bike, or if it will be a problem, watch this video to see my review of how the Bird ebike performs, and I go over the good and bad features of the bird electric bike. This is the A-frame bike, but they also make a bird bike that is smaller with a step over frame. if you want a cheap bike that is good quality, this one is worth looking at.
    Here is where you can get a great deal on a brand new Bird ebike.
    amzn.to/43OJd7L
    You should also search for the Bird Bike on eBay. The price keeps dropping. It may be cheaper now.

      You’re welcome. I tried to cover all of the good and bad things about this bike. I was looking for something I could ride around town and not get sweaty on, but that I could also ride for exercise. I’ve put 120 miles on it, and Found that if I switch between level zero and level one, I can get my heart rate up around 130 beats a minute and go faster than I would on a normal bike. Or if I’m feeling lazy, I can put it on five and zip around town without getting sweaty. I think the most important thing people need to know about this bike is that the top speed really is 20 miles an hour, so if they’re looking for something faster, this isn’t it.

      @@hoohoohoblin To me this seems like the ideal commuter bike. I have a lectric XP which is nice, but the tires are a bit big and it's like impossible to get the battery out. That's a concern for me because of winters in Iowa and my garage being uninsulated. Cold/hot temps are so hard on batteries. Love that this one is removable. I ride year round too so the belt drive appeals to me from a maintenance standpoint. My chain gets rusty from road salt!

    I bought a Bird bike at Costco for ~$1650 (tough to find a bike for that price) and no problem assembling it as all the tools were included. Once on the road, the bike functioned outstanding. With 5 choices of assistance, one can pretty well manage any hill. Also, the boost lever on the richt hand side of the handle bar is nifty, particularly when one has to move from a full stop. The belt drive and the 500W motor work flawlessly. Disc brakes work as they should. Only the paddles are of a cheap variety but they do the job. Now, so why am I bringing the bike back to Costco? I am 184 cm (6'-4") tall and the frame is unfortunately too small. Not to prospective buyers: check out the right size frame for your length before buying a bike.

    I bought a Bird Bike a few months ago and rode it once. The second time I took it with me on vacation and it rained on the drive with the bike on my bike rack. A day or two later I took it out for a drive and the bike stopped working after 10 minutes. Bird Rides Inc won't warranty their product cause it they sold it to a third party for them to resell. The real issue is that they are selling an outdoor product that is not made for the outdoors and price gouging people by having the majority of their sales through third parties that they won't warranty and charging 40% of the initial cost to fix it. If you read other review on this product you'll see that it likely won't last more than a year. likely won't last longer than a year. If you already bought it, return it or make sure that it never touches water. I'm going to have to take the battery apart and try to replace the cells.

      That’s a good deal. It appears that not very many people are buying these old bird bikes, so the price keeps coming down. I still really like mine. Watch my long-term review video to see what you have to watch out for. The spokes on the back wheel got really loose and I had to tighten them.

      I, too, got a Bird Bike at the 4th of July sale at Brandsmart for $399. If I had paid more for this bike, I would have been unhappy, but it's worth just that, $399. Not a penny more. The main complaint I have is the range. I get only about 25 miles with pedal assist level 1 on a single charge. They advertise up to 50 miles with pedal assist. Full throttle, I get only about 10 miles on a single charge. Furthermore, once the battery is fully charged, it drains about 2% per day, even not being used. I think I have a bad battery. Worst reaching a live person at Bird is impossible. Calling the customer service number in the manual is of no use. The voice recording 0:29 support agents are available to take your call. Please call back later". Repeated attempts failed. I have a Denago ebike ($1,300) as well. I get about 20 miles range on full throttle and up to 60 miles with level 1 pedal assist on the Denago. Essentially, the Bird bike has the range of an e-scooter, but it was priced the same as an e- scooter as well. So I guess I got what I paid for.

      @rickkstir The bike comes with a 1 year warranty. The instruction manual says to reach out to Bird with any problems. It specifically says don't contact the retailer. The bike is less than 3 weeks old, but I can't reach anyone at Bird to help solve this problem.

      You’re welcome. It’s definitely a gamble. It’s hard to really know what you’re getting until you take it for a ride. I tried to give my best review of it. I like it, but I wish it had more gears rather than the belt drive so I could cruise at 20 miles an hour on pedal assist one. And a lot of other E bikes have top speeds of 25 or 28 miles an hour, so if I were to ride with a bunch of other people on e bikes, I wouldn’t be able to keep up. But the price has dropped down to $699, and there’s $100 off coupon, so I think for the price it’s the best bike you can get, but if you’re willing to spend twice as much you can get a much better bike.

    PAY ATTENTION: Watch his knees as he's riding - the seat post isn't high enough. You don't want to pedal with your knees fully extended, but pedaling with your knees constantly bent will also ruin your knees.

    • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Shomy is a company that is selling the original Bird bikes. You can read the Amazon reviews and people will confirm that. They must’ve bought a bunch of new bird bikes from Bird or at an auction and they are selling them on Amazon.

      I don’t know where you would get one. I don’t think Bird sells parts for these anymore. If you’re in Europe, I think those models don’t come with a throttle because throttles are illegal there. An American version should have a throttle though.

    6’ tall. Hard to find a charger for this I think it takes 36v 2a charger and it needs brake replacement and I replaced the seat I hate the original. • @hoohoohoblin
      @hoohoohoblin  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      More gears would definitely make it better. It has 55 teeth in the front and 22 in the rear, and I think if it had 60 in the front, it would be perfect for going full speed. 55 is a little bit too small. With that gear ratio, as long as there was power in the motor, it would work well in almost every circumstance. Last weekend, I test drove a mid drive bike with a three speed automatic belt drive transmission in the back, and it was awesome.

      I really like mine, but it’s important to understand what it is. It’s definitely not a motorcycle, and you need to pedal to help get it moving fast or go up hills. The main problem I had with mine was that the spokes on the back wheel got loose after 350 miles. Make sure you check the spoke tension. I tried to show all of that in the video so other people wouldn’t buy one if they aren’t looking for this kind of bike.
