Got one of these in May 22, by July the ECU broke and it just shut down mid ride. After about a month, got a replacement under warranty (the first one they sent had a broken front light). Today this just started randomly shutting down on the way home, so cycled down some very dark country lanes in total darkness. Will looking to exchange for something more reliable unfortunately
Really sorry to hear this! We will look out for other accounts of this happening. Obviously, it's not something you can test for in a review, unfortunately.
It depends. It's cheaper, but having ridden the crank-based Mark2 Scrambler C if you want a bike with plenty of electric torque that's the place to put it. The hub is fine for this kind of bike though.
I'm in the throes of buying a Birdbike at a discounted price. Unfortunately, Halfords only sell them on line so I can't try it out until its delivered and assembled by my local branch. having watched this video, the bike ticks all the boxes but I'm now a bit perturbed by the height of the cross bar.
That's because they have since lowered price to 1250 and are selling out quick ...when I ordered mine they only had 5 bikes in there entire uk branches So I had to travel 90 miles to pick up As it's a online only offer they will not ship to your local store
@@deancunliffe1453 ahh that makes sense. I decided not to get one in the end anyways. I wasn't convinced it was for me. I'm looking for something lighter and more friendly without the motor being used.
Same as the reviewer. It's doable if you're a competent cyclist and I'm sure you would get used to it. We would say that 5ft 10in is about the shortest though.
I am 5 11 and ride it for 8 months now 2100 km on the clock as a daly 35km on max assist level 5 is top with my size i had to lift the saddle so you are fine brakes are just about ok and need permanent adjustment light is brill .. even has a brake light tyres are shite and i switched to schwalbe e-marathon 🎉🎉🎉🎉 lots lots better ride
My bike got rained on when driving to go out on vacation. Let it dry out for a day or more. Battery stopped working after 10 minutes of riding. Company won't warranty their product cause it they sold it to a third party for them to resell. Sketchy business practices. Do not waste your on this, It likely won't last longer than a year. If you already bought it, return it or make sure water never touches it. I'm going to have to take the battery apart and try to replace the cells.
Bird bike that I bought from halfords in the UK has been a complete waste if time. 30 miles in an error code that took 7 weeks to rectify. Came back with faulty speed/distance log and turns itself off every 5 mins. Wish I'd never heard of Bird bike. Bird shit
Thank you for taking the time to do this review! It was very helpful in my decision making process.
Glad it was helpful!
A marvelous, comprehensive review with lots of little details. Very refreshing!
Thanks!
Hi, I was wondering if you would be able to advise me how to change the speed setting please?
I'm afraid we don't have the bike anymore to check.

Like the motor being mounted in the hub rather than the crank just seems to be a bit more sensible?

How tall are you?
What's the weight distribtuion like it looks maybe a bit top heavy to me.
Not too bad. The wheels are heavy and the motor is down low too.
No halfords shops seem to have this in store.
Thanks. They told us they would when we made the video.

That's some weird looking bike do they do it in a brighter colour so it doesn't look quite so aggressive?
Yes, the blue and grey are less agressive.
The £1999 pricing isn't bad considering there's no road tax to pay but you're getting more or less the same functionality as a moped.
It's discounted to £1,499 at the moment.
@@WhichEV 1250 now!
@@spikethea2630 Wow, sounds like they are trying to get rid of them!
@@WhichEV would you say that at 1250 its a no brainer? Very tempted 🤔
@@kenobinai If you're okay with the crossbar height, absolutely. It's a sturdy bike with some great features and rides well.
i have it for a few months good bike wors batttery 54 km max on 1 battery
That's not bad at all. Plenty for a daily commute.
@@WhichEV 54 km? in lowest level is not verry good i think
the battery is very small
I’m 193 cm, is the bike going to be small for me?
Can you buy the battery externally?
It is removable, so replacements will be available.
UK limits to 250 watt LMAO. Wow, you guy's need a tea party to remind your gov who's in charge.
James really looks like he works out when he's riding the bike he almost looks like totally different human being.
It's amazing what switching over to a vest can do to reveal the buff lines of his physique.
Can you increase the maximum assisted speed of this e-bike?
Yes, but technically it's illegal to do so in the UK.
nope
even changing the wheel size is no longer possible
fixed to 700c
About 5 10 inches

wait u can go uo to 20mph assisted?
Not "legally". But most e-bikes have settings that allow you to break the law in the EU/UK.
How to do settings for 20mph on this bike?
@@abdurrehmanch6292 have you found anything?
The interface looks like the best part of the bike.
It might be...
Think that mark 2 bike is a better deal.
Yes, we agree. Bit more expensive but overall better features.
I am 5'8 can will it work for me?
In theory - depends how agile you are and how you ride. We would suggest you go try the bike out.

Can u ECU tune it?
Not as far as we know.
23kg is very heavy for a bike couldn't they have saved weight?
A battery always adds a few kgs. But it is heavy even given that.
Nice bike
Thanks!
Can you get Storm to review your next bike she looks much better in a pair of bike shorts than ancient James here.
He's not wearing shorts! And she wasn't available for this one.
"Bird is the word." Sorry had to say it. Family Guy reference.

Really sorry to hear that. We didn't have any trouble with the one we tested.
Top build quality. Too expensive though.
It’s on sale at Halfords now for £1250
As RadeyRads says, the price has gone down a lot since we made this video.
