This because they haven't updated their products in a long time. For example, Paintshop Pro, the program that should compete with Photoshop, is dead slow, buggy, comes with GPU acceleration disabled by default and it stays slow even after enabling it. They seem 10 years behind the competition. Probably they think that writing 2023 near the name of the product is enough.
I'm definitely interested in seeing anything you want to demo. I used to use Corel back in the day, and I'm not sure I can afford not to take advantage of this bundle. Thanks 👍
I got one of these bundles a few years back, uninstalled because the software kept popping up ads on my desktop trying to upsell. They still doing that?
Not trying to put a downer on what is a great deal by Humble Bundle but for those that might get caught out Corel Draw Standard is a (slightly) cut down version compared to the one in Corel Graphics Suite. Eg: no Pantone/spot colour support which might be an issue for some. I have used Corel since version 1 and it's still my go-to for quick design work. It would be awesome if Humble Bundle could get a deal for slightly older version of the full Graphics Suite
@@Sprogster Dark Mode is not major functionality. That does not affect your ability to do actual work in the application. Tone down thh ridiculousness. I agree with the person upthread. It is missing a lot of features that people doing more serious work will need, including file format support for some industry standard formats. It's also, hilariously still Windows-only, even though Graphics Suite is on macOS. Additionally, I don't think Corel has perpetual upgrades for CorelDRAW anymore. You can only upgrade to a subscription... At least, that's all I could find. There doesn't seem to be an upgrade path to Graphics Suite from Standard (someone can confirm or deny this). So, while this may not be a subscription, the price is likely to be quite extreme when you figure you want to upgrade to a newer version. Also, no idea what the feature disparities between PHOTO-PAINT Standard and the version in Graphics Suite is. Weird they don't list that. The bundle at least includes PaintShop Pro, so maybe that is a way to side step any CPP feature limitations in this SKU. I've never been impressed with Corel Painter's UI or performance on any machine I've tried it on. Every version they advertise massive performance gains, but despite me getting better and better GPUs I never seem to experience it (have used v 2019/2022). Too expensive compared to Affinity Designer/Photo/Publisher. Windows-only. Missing some serious functionality for prosumers and entry professionals (that it shouldn't be missing with a $299 MSRP). And it's also AdWare, which IMO is a far bigger issue than the lack of a Dark Mode that many people won't care about because they won't be sitting in their parents' basement. No shade...
Finally, a Corel bundle with a _lifetime_ CorelDraw instead of short-term subscription! \o/ I've loved CorelDraw ever since I used it in high school in 2002 for a computer graphics class and finally look forward to using it again on a modern computer. Meanwhile, got a Corel Humble Bundle a few years back and PaintShop Pro (IIRC 2020, I don't have my laptop open at the moment to check) felt like utter trash compared to Photoshop (anything PS 6 or later, even the subscription-based CC versions) or even the original Jasc PaintShop Pro 6 or 8 or so back in the day, and this was on a 2019 decent spec Lenovo IdeaPad laptop with 20 gigs RAM (4 built-in + 16 single-slot, I didn't yet upgrade the single-slot to 32 back then) 2.something GHz quad-core.
Corel hasn't released new versions of Painter or PaintShop Pro since 2022, when these 2023 versions came out. They have been very quiet on social media and their website hasn't been updated in a while, other than for the COREL DRAW release earlier this year. I don't know for sure, but it looks like maybe they are no longer actively producing software updates. Do you have any communication channels with them? It would be good to know how things stand with them. Obviously, I hope I'm wrong and they keep producing good software.
Corel has actually been going through a corporate restructuring. The name of the new company is "Alludo" as in "All you do." From Wikipedia: "Cascade Parent Limited, doing business as Alludo (/əˈluː.doʊ/ ə-LOO-doh[2]), is a Canadian software company headquartered in Ottawa, Ontario, specializing in graphics processing. Formerly called the Corel Corporation (/kəˈrɛl/ kə-REL;[3] from the abbreviation "Cowpland Research Laboratory"), the company is known for producing software titles such as CorelDRAW, and for acquiring AfterShot Pro, PaintShop Pro, Painter, Video Studio and WordPerfect."
Painter is the great old standard for emulations of traditional materials - the Photoshop of its category. It's not the easiest to use though since it's accumulated a ton of configuration detail. A lot of people lately have turned towards Rebelle and ArtRage for a more compact take on emulated traditional. Still, the bundle is tempting since I was shopping around for those apps.
as a Brazilian I thank you (Corel is popular in Brazil for us peasants designers) hahahaha haven't used it for years, and don't have much need for it nowadays, but just bought it as the price was fantastic hahahaha
If you upgrade year over year, Corel is more expensive than Illustrator. It is never cheaper. It is only comparably priced if you also subscribe to CorelDRAW Graphics Suite... The benefit of DRAW over Adobe is that it bundles Corel PHOTO-PAINT for Raster Image Editing (though it's definitely not Photoshop) and can do Page Layout to some extent. So, it's a relatively flexible application. However, I think Affinity is a better solution than CorelDRAW Standard. Graphics Suite is like 4x the price, of Affinity - which is on sale more often than not with far bigger discounts than Corel ever has on their software.
I read on their site that the Vector AI, and vision FX are based on Stable Diffusion 1.5. I cannot say what checkpoint they used, or it ifs their own proprietary one, as stabile diffusion uses different models called checkpoints. I'm buying this package soon as I get paid next for coral draw. I'm ending my Adobe CC account, so I'll be using these, and affinity products in the very near future.
Oof last time i used Corel is like 25 years ago, i wonder what it's like. My preferred vector software is an old version of Xara, but if someone made a comparison of vaguely modern versions of Corel and Xara, well that'd be interesting. I'm also curious which of these tools, if any, run decently in WINE.
Yeah, I'm still so used to good old Xara... I have Affinity, Corel, all the open source ones but I still enjoy Xara (not the expensive annual updates, was like a sub, I gave up after $1000 or so).
Sadly I've discovered yes there is, and it's not documented so I can't actually tell you what the differences are. On thing I discovered is Dark Mode is unavailable on Standard, which is weapons grade stupid. There is no exhaustive list of features they've removed too which makes following documentation a nightmare.
I already have Inkscape, why do I need CorelDRAW, which is basically the same (trust me, used CorelDRAW 8 in the past and it has interface almost identical to Inkscape), but closed source?
I'm shocked. CorelDraw has probably had a bad time with subscriptions... because I'd rather spend a bit more on Adobe and get state of the art AI assisted photoshop and such, where Corel couldn't even be bothered with content-aware fills for ages. I will probably get this bundle... but I've been getting a LOT of use out of my Adobe subscription. I will say, for those wanting to avoid Adobe, this is a great way to go... PhotoPaint and CorelDraw were my go-to apps for bitmap and vector art for 30 years. Leaving them was not easy, but the suite had been very stagnant for the past 10 years, and moving to a nasty subscription model was the last straw. Nice to see them return, but as I said, I suspect their business is swirling around a drain right now because of all those bad decisions.
I was thinking the same. They must be pretty desperate to sell their latest at this price. They used to be a huge name but I rarely hear them mentioned these days. Of course, that may be due to me simply missing videos on them but it's also down to their marketing. Photo-Paint, Draw and the first couple of Painter versions were also my go-to software way back in the past, so it's not like I'm not familiar with them. When I have checked them out, I got the same impression as you - stagnation.
Don't buy the Standard version before you really did your research and you are happy with that version. For example if you want to change to Dark Mode nope you can't. No GPU support etc etc.
Yeah as I've dug in further I've been more and more disappointed. Before the video I looked at the feature matrix and Corel are incredibly misleading on the different features. I only discovered customization was disabled by trial and error, I found literally no documentation saying that. Really scummy marketing by Corel. The deal is still great if you're waiting for Corel Draw, but the feature set between standard and subscription isn't well defined and some of the things they removed are simply BS.
@@gamefromscratch There is a trial version on the website. It lacks dark mode and UI scaling, some features like Block Shadows, Mesh Fill, color effects and so on. It's "Upsell the Suite Edition". FWIW there is one feature that I could find people getting use out of, and that's the vectorization of bitmap images. The tool in InkScape does not work that well with colors, I had better results with the one in Corel (the Standard edition has the non-AI one). As long as the image is suitable for vector (i.e sharp contrast), the only issues I found was that some edges would need smoothing out afterwards.

I have Adobe Cloud, and to be honest, they know what they are doing - the AI tools just work, and they are improving almost daily. I still don't see content-aware fills in PhotoPaint - I know they are in PaintShop Pro, but if I'm learning a new editor after PhotoPaint, it's the big gun, Photoshop. Sorry for the side rant.... My point is that AI tools are here to stay, and yes, they can provide artists with some awesome capabilities. The tools aren't an end-all by themselves. They still need a solid talent behind them to make real magic happen.
many of those that use the software are graphics designers, and depending on company we try to minimize time used on projects. Using AI has become pretty common the last few years for stuff like retouching, filling some blank spaces, expanding images, etc. Then you have those also using it for image generation and vector generation, haven't dabbled in that for my work but it will become more common too. You just do a few edits to make it great and save even more time
