Het Nederlandse televisieprogramma "Countdown" was van 1976 t/m 1993 “Europe’s Number 1 Rock Show” en werd uitgezonden bij Veronica. Later werd het programma ook uitgezonden in het buitenland en was het op z'n hoogtepunt in meer dan 20 landen op televisie te zien.
Gedurende deze 17 jaar muziekgeschiedenis zijn er opnames gemaakt met talloze internationale sterren, zoals Paul McCartney, David Bowie, Tina Turner, Janet Jackson, Stevie Wonder, The Rolling Stones, George Harrison, U2, The Police, Eric Clapton, Bruce Springsteen, Lenny Kravitz, Depeche Mode, New Order, Whitney Houston, Duran Duran, R.E.M., Frankie Goes To Hollywood, The Cure, Run DMC, Cyndi Lauper, Iron Maiden, New Kids On The Block, LL Cool J.
Uiteraard kwamen Nederlandse top-acts als Doe Maar, Andre Hazes, Herman Brood, Frank Boeijen, Spargo, Golden Earring, Time Bandits, De Dijk, De Raggende Manne, Hans de Booij, Gerard Joling, Drukwerk ook langs voor een optreden in Bussum.
Countdown werd gepresenteerd door oa Lex Harding, Erik de Zwart, Adam Curry, Simone Walraven Wessel van Diepen, Jeroen van Inkel, Rob Stenders, Simone Angel en Jasper Faber.
Het Countdown archief is vrijwel helemaal compleet en sinds 2017 eigendom van het Amerikaanse Reelin’ In The Years Productions (David Peck - reelinintheyears.com/) en Double 2 Hilversum (Jan Douwe Kroeske - www.double2bv.nl). Het archief bestaat uit meer dan 3.000 analoge mastertapes die allemaal gedigitaliseerd en gearchiveerd zijn. @@gamingwithcallum6087 Ah right. Cheers. I mean, people do mime and lip synch on tv shows. Depends on how much time they have to get the sound right... and whether they think the audience is more interested in hearing the record and seeing their favourite popstars, or if they want to see proof that they're proper musicians who can play and sing. If you forced me to make a judgement about which approach was better, I'd merely say that the skill of being able to sing and play live is massively overrated. Loads of really brilliant music has been produced by people who can do neither - and vice versa.
@@hackdaniels7253 well back then it happened a lot. On 31st March 1983 on the show Top Of The Pops New Order tried to do their song Blue Monday live. It all went wrong. One of the guys loaded the floppy disks into the sampler the wrong way round so a thunder sound played instead of a choir sound (which was samples from kraftwerk’s song Uranium) and sometimes the wrong synth notes were being played. Was a disaster 😂😂😂

@@CountDownEU It looks like it was recorded live on videotape, and whoever was in charge made sure it wasn't just thrown in a box somewhere. It certainly has held up very well.
