Interesting how only back in 2010, the ubiquitous smart phones everyone would be carrying nowadays, are nowhere to be seen, rather, just a few people with digital cameras and video recorders. I think I like the less 'techie' time much better!
Fascinating series. Love how they completely ignored any possible Medieval stuff as they blasted through to the Roman layer, but hey: that's a 3-day dig for ya. Love how the Time Team consistently laser in (pun intended) on what they re looking for. They're incredibly efficient. (Which makes me think that they'd already discounted the possibility of Medieval stuff before they got to Litlington).
I found a website called Wessex Archeology which has a more detailed report on Litlington. So I gather there was some follow up. Google "Litlington roman villa" and it should be among the top results.
If I Iived in Litlington, I'd be thinking about the next steps to recover Roman treasure from the villa and bath house. Add some Roman coins to my collection and display a marble bust in the parlor to stimulate intellectual conversations when guests arrive for dinner. As for the cemetery, I am torn over the issue of disturbing the graves of those who are no longer allowed to rest in peace. Yes, cemeteries are important sources of rare ancient artifacts, but these offerings were left with the deceased to take with them to the next world. We are possibly dealing with the subject of some type of interdimensional transfer. Who's to say that archaeologists recovering such artifacts don't have an impact upon the original intent of placing them there in the first place?
What are the laws WRT finding Roman Villas in one’s backyard? If I found a Roman Villa in my backyard I’d be famoose! - I’m in the US - I don’t have a backyard However, were I to live in an area that contains backyards in which it’s possible to find a Roman Villa, I’d be “come on in!” But I can see if someone wouldn’t want to be so accommodating.

Time team such a jem. Best part of lockdown was finding this show. Been obsessed ever since I’ll support any channel that spreads this
Ditto ❤
This has been my nite nite show since the Pandemic. My wife jokes that Saxon is now a word that triggers me to go to sleep.
Gem, not jem! LOL
3 days is never enough in all episodes
Yeah I’d love to see them see through the whole dig to the end
Very true
at least make it 5 days
Tell that to those thieves at the BBC.
They should do their geophysical work before the 3 day clock starts ticking.
Lovely Helen! Always nice to see her!
If I had a chunk of a Roman Villa under my garden, I would keep it fully exposed and protected.
Sounds like an oxymoron, exposed and protected 😂. I do know what you mean, I’d put a glass around it so we could see it and protect it
@@Jadzla you're right it does :)
Reburying it IS protecting it. It survived so long because it was underground.
@@jmmt1968YES! Someone who gets it. ❤

I just love mister Baldricks voice😙
All part of his cunning plan 😂
Unbelievable !! I have always watched these types of documentaries over the years
Are they not rather obvious cropmarks shown in the aerial view at 23.40?
Wish the real time team channels didn’t ruin their content with ads every five minutes.
Time team is a gem dont muck about with it.
Too bad the advertizers think people aren't concerned with the content of the artifacts. Just makes me crazy!
You guys should use lidar
they do now, this made 20+ years ago
This is season 17, ep 11. October 2010
@@beanzieobeanz2955 Thanks. It all makes sense now.

Please help . . . What becomes of sites after the Time-Machine leaves. Does serious archaeology continue 'off-screen' ?

Google "Litlington roman villa" and it should be among the top results.
It will usually get reburied, as its protected under the soil. There are much bigger and better sites that the Universities work on.
@@TEverettReynolds appreciate the answer.
Can you tell us what becomes of the relics and little treasures ?
@@MichaelLeBlanc-p4fthe artifacts will go to local museum in Cambridge
Excellent point about data storage. Pencil on paper will far outlast any digital medium.
Pencil fades. Paper deteriorates.
The diggers have amazing eyesight to spot what they do.

You think they don't get this in school? Budding archeologists.
I'm sure if it isn't a Bath House, it is quite possible that such a grand House would surely have a Sauna as well.

Unfortunately the discovers 200 years ago didn’t have a real survivor to provide exact location.

Hellen: what is a Roum? is that like a Room?
Gonna ck my yard in Iowa for some this stuff too
Why not? I doubt you'll find any Roman coins or pottery - but you might actually dig up a paleoindian site, or woodland stone artifacts...
