    Yakone tried to take over Republic City through crime. Tarrlok tried to do it politically. Amon tried a revolution/uprising. All failed.

      Of course they failed, come on.. I mean a middle aged man succeeding over a bad-ass girl-boss???? what foolishness you speak. lol. No but seriously I even to this day cannot abide how massive these writers disrespected the lore of Avatar. It's very paradoxical to be(and for me) because I really do think this show is very good and well written; BUT Korra herself is NOT. the ONLY character written with less intelligence is Unaloq. Everyone else is cleverly written. But Korra "just suddenly Airbending" is the worse written plot armor McGuffin EVER. she doesn't practice except for like once or twice, she never even so much as TRIES to embrace her spiritual side, it JUST COMES to her in a moment of utter desperation. Airbending doesn't work like that. It's NOT a Card from a Yugi-Oh deck that just shows up when that's the specific EXACT card you need. Aibending is something one has to LEARN. In fact ALL bending NEEDS to be learned; otherwise you'll just end up accidentally burning Katara. The fact that she CAN just Airbend without effort AND use it to "fight" like a Firebender???? PURE BULLSHIT.

      @@patrickcromwell7554 "the ONLY character written with less intelligence is Unaloq."
      -> It's called a character arc: Korra season 1 is still immature, but that changes over the course of the next seasons.
      But I'm sure you're totally ok with season 1 Zuko "written with less intelligence".
      "But Korra "just suddenly Airbending" is the worse written plot armor McGuffin EVER"
      -> Aang even explained it at the end of the episode: when we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.
      But I'm sure you're totally ok with Aang suddenly rockbending at the end of the "Bitter Work" episode, when he had finally the right mindset for it.

    Tarrlok killing Amon without the latter knowing is just like the ending of Of Mice and Men, where George gives Lenny an instant death so he'll die happy.

    • @RLucas3000
      @RLucas3000 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Uh, Of Mice and Men spoiler warning.
      Just kidding. I somehow managed to not get assigned that book in high school or college. But just through cultural osmosis, I think it takes place during the Depression, that Lenny is a gentle, loving giant of a guy (like Hodor), but also like Hodor seems a bit slow, and that he accidentally kills a woman or child? His best friend George knows he will be executed (and probably tortured by unfeeling prison guards because of his slowness) so he gives him a quick, painless death. Did Lenny also have mice friends? (Like Fowers For Algenon, or Ben/Willard without the horror elements?). I think the book and movie Of Mice and Men was so popular in its era, Warner Brothers even did cartoon parodies of the characters (as mice) in its cartoons.

Kuruk the water bender was a go with flow and laid back avatar then kyoshi after him was a strict disciplinarian who ruled with an iron fist, roku then comes along and wasn't as strict which you can say lead to the war. Girls you might see some comments about Korra SUICID3 moment but don't believe them.
    They just read a theory and blind themselves and want to blind others.
    Some of them might said it was confirmed but The writers never said that, that was a theory created by fans.
    And is a poor theory too because:
    1-That cliff was shown in ep1 and is the place where Korra goes when she is upset or mad, that's her "safe place".
    2- That's not Korra, we know in real life we can't know what people are dealing with and how they do it, but this is a show, and you can know the character completely, Korra would never kill herself and let everyone alone on their own.
    3- If the theory was true then she wouldn't take Naga with her, how are you going to "unalive" yourself and take your best friend to watch it?
    I REALLY pay attention to the details because I love this show, and because of it I know what that Place meant to Korra 🖤.
    That was just a vulnerable moment and that theory doesn't even make sense.

    Well to be fair Just like Korra and Aang, Amon was a bending prodigy. which means he learned how to be AT ONE with water. And as we all know water is very mobile and can be moved and shaped into any form, so dodging and weaving around attacks is ALMOST as easy as Air-Bending techniques. I would imagine that After Air-Benders, Water-Benders are the next best at evasion tactics. Making Earth bender the least able. They're Earth-Benders; they don't dodge, other people dodge THEM LOL.

    “When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change.” One of my favorite lines in the avatar universe, one which could be applied to multiple episodes. At his lowest point Sokka truly humbled himself to learn the ways of the sword. Toph was so desperate to escape she bent metal which defied all preconceived feats of earth bending. And katara, out of pure fear and desperation just as aang and sokka are about to collide she accepted the only thing that she could to save them, blood bending. There are many more examples but this post is long enough lol.

    Regarding why people don't like Korra, the main complaint for season 1 is it wrapped up too quickly with Korra getting her powers back immediately. Season 2 gets the most flak for other reasons.

    I’m sure ppl have commented this dozens of times but they originally didn’t know if they would get more season. Nickelodeon was horrendous in managing this show and forcing things to be worse than they could have been. Like Korra losing her bending is such an interesting conflict for her character to go through and I wish we had most of season 2 with her dealing with that, it would have made Aang showing up even more impactful. It’s clear they had to rush some things and it’s wild that Nickelodeon managed their most successful franchise in their history like this. It’s a true shame.
    Still love Korra tho. It has some amazing villains. Just a few things that fall flat. The love triangle is pretty lame for example.

    This episode is up there with any top Avatar episode. The moment where Korra Airbends for the first time and breaks out of Amon's grip. The moment Aang shows up and all the previous Avatars appear. Korra going into the Avatar state and restoring Lin's bending. I get chills in all those moments

  • @CalciumChief

    Yeah the fact Amon didn't even commit to his plan and didn't actually give himself real scars is so lame. You can see the crew was ordered only one season of the show cause of villain just leaving, and Korra magically getting all the bending back and healing everyone. It's not the last time overall story is gonna suffer cause of Nick flip-flopping no how many episodes they wanted.

    BTW, elder Katara is voiced by none other than Eva Marie Saint, who's best known for co-starring in the Hitchcock classic North by Northwest (another film you guys should think about covering). She voiced Katara when she was in her late 80's to 90's and honestly, her voice was only slightly kraggier than when she did North by Northwest around 60 years earlier.
    Eva's still with us, and she will turn 100 this year if she hangs in there. 😀

      there are really interesting ideas and themes in legend of Korra, but it ultimatly doesn't do them Justice. this season f.e. the social tension between benders and non benders is really interesting. But the resulution -the main guy from the equivalists was a fraud- is a bit of a cop out. That would have been fine if working on the underlying social problems had been a theme in the coming seasons.

    If your asking for explanations I think most peoples problem with the show is the way the seasons were written seem very disjointed for 1, and 2; however at the same time most people don't know about the production issues they faced where for the first 2 seasons they didn't know that they were getting a subsequent season. I think having that info is what made me realize the the writing decision that I and many disliked were not the fault of the people making the show but the fault of the studio, and know that in hindsight this is up there with ATLA if not better, though that's just my opinion. I do know that my aunt who loves the original series, and was the person to introduce me too the series, didn't like it because of all the relationship stuff; however I think that was more coming from an adult perspective. I was still in high school when Korra premiered so I related to a lot of it, I think the writing aged with its target audience at the time, while also introducing serious themes.

    The problem of the people who didnt liked LoK is that they expected and wanted to see an ATLA book 4 and they thought LoK is that and when they were disappointed that they didnt get to see what really happend to Zuko, to uncle Iroh, to Sokka, to Azula yadah yadah yadah not realizing that this is a different show. I think if you move past this mentality and treat LoK the respect this show truly deserves as its own stand alone show, you will slowly realize how complex, deep and meaningful the concept they are trying to offer. The show clearly grows up with its audiences and it's a show that truly gives back the loyalty and dedication you put into as an Avatar fan.

    Mako is a great friend and a terrible lover.
    Reminder: because the executives screwed up, the show creators thought each season would be the last. Because of this, every season is self-contained and there is no overarching story spanning all seasons like there was with the first show.
    On the plus side, the character development crosses all seasons, and I think some of these characters arcs are better in this show.
    Season 2 is the weakest, but it also introduces some truly amazing characters.

    The first season is really good because it was supposed to be a stand alone season and the end of the korra story, but Nick asked for another season afterward then while they were finishing the second they were asked for the other seasons. This is why i think the other seasons don't flow as well. With Aang they did what they set out to do water, earth, and fire seasons, but with Korra it becomes a stop and go will they won't they show and it begins to show as the show goes on. There are still great moments throughout though.

    @14:28 I think people's issue with LoK is just prototyping. They are likely forming their opinion by contrasting it with ATLA, not in isolation on it's own merits. Probably the same as people who can't get over a new actor playing popular character; it's not as good because it's not the same. People tend to watch the shows in order so the option for expectation and comparison is there for almost everyone who watches. ...It might be fun to get people to watch the second show first and poll opinions for contrast.

    I think the reason so many people don’t LOK is just because of the whole “new things aren’t as good” attitude. Like it’s not that it’s actually that bad. It’s just that it’s really hard for some people to get past the nostalgia and familiarity of ATLA.
    Personally there are several aspects of LOK that I prefer over ATLA. I think Korra has a much stronger, relatable character development than Aang. But that also doesn’t mean that Aang’s character development isn’t relatable or good. They’re both amazing and there’s really no reason you can’t enjoy both. Just enjoy LOK and have fun. It’s a beautiful show.

    @commonsensei8423 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Without spoilers: Here are the complains I most often heard about TLOK:
    1. Korra was immediately depicted as better at bending than Aang, being immediately awesome at it even as a child. That's sort of true but the show implies she still spent years training in every element except Air, and we see her starting her training in that...that they didn't show her prior training in detail, I think, reflects that that was Aang's story arc and not Korra's. She a;also clearly has flaws, unlike a Mary Sur. She's aggressive and impulsive being two obvious onces. I kind of lump this one together with "the show is too 'woke,' which you did hear sometimes, though only after the show concluded (as 2012 was a little too early for the culture war stuff.
    1.a. More legit: Some people wanted the backstories on what happened to every character, like Sokka, Toph, Suki, Zuko, etc. And t's fair to say they didn't give you much about those character's fates.
    2. Every character around her just kept slathering her in compliments and so sounded a little one note. To some extent that's fair of her immediate friends, but not always of Tenzin and Lin Beifong is almost the opposite.
    3. Korra shows no character growth. The one seems to mostly come from people who didn't watch the show very long, IMO. I suppose it was only mild growth in Season 1 in that she became more "spiritual" (though they didn't really show that happening over the course of the season IMO, it was just sort of "declared to be so" at the end). But there are other seasons to come so give it time.
    4. The seasons are uneven because there is no one overarching story for Korra, more four largely separate ones, one after the other. I think that is fair if you prefer one big story and not four separate arcs, and I myself like some seasons and adversaries more than others., So that is perhaps legitimate, but down to subjective preference. And, in any event, Nickelodeon was renewing the show seasons by season, so if they had planned a big overall story, the show might have been cancelled leaving it unfinished.

    The first season of TLoK is pretty darn good, but the ending always felt a bit rushed to me... probably because afaik the series was renewed for a second season only after the first one finished. So the first season had to rush to the end and then the second season had to introduce an entirely new issue.
    Another issue of TLoK is that the BBEGs all feel weird. Iman seems well written but that's mostly because there are so many layers of intrigue going on that we don't even realize that there isn't really a reason for him to act the way he does. I mean, yes, we could chalk up his plans to pure lust for power, but his real intentions are never actually revealed, at least not so much that it's feels genuine nor in a way that allows us to extrapolate what his end game was.
    And then there is one specific arc that I won't spoil for you, but the ending to that arc feels like the antithesis of the entire setting before. It's jarring. And honestly, I could've lived with some of the shallow plans of the BBEGs and some of the lesser issues of TLoK, but that ending to that specific arc is just garbage and deserves to be purged.

    the only things i find hard about legend of korra is that she seems to just brush off consequences really easily and that cartoon network messed the creators around they still did a spectacular job still probably better than any other group that had to deal with those pressures. on another note i think that they tried to highlight the other things the avatar has to deal with like the spirituality and duty to the people etc over just bending the four elements which is very different to aangs journey the comparison i would make is he got spirituality almost as easy as Korra got the physical aspects of bending. and finally how bending has progressed and changed from aangs time with more rigid fighting styles and some techniques becoming easier like bending lightening, i see why people would take issue with that but i also think it had decades to develop into the industrial era shown in Legend of korra.

  • @ravenblack3474

    There's nothing wrong with season 1. It's great. Problem is with the following seasons. Season 2 starts like Korra didn't learn anything from all this story in season 1. Like she had no character growth. And every season after that is just like that. The reason for this is Nickelodeon only gave go ahead for the following seasons depending on how the previous season performs. Unlike Last Airbender, where they wrote the whole 3 seasons in one go. Writers of Korra had to start every season like they are starting a new project. So every season Korra goes through the same character arc. And she does the same mistakes over and over. This becomes frustrating to the viewers.

    the reason a lot of people don't like the show is the characters. the character development is minimal and we don't really see people dealing with consequences or changing.
    if Korra had to spend a season with no bending it coulda been rly neat. everything went back to the way it was at the start of the season, except Asami has an evil father, and mako and korra are together? but who was even wanting that? you'd have to be insane to be excited about the will they wont they thing they have.
    some moments in the show are cool bit the overall narrative is lacking imo. it's just stuff happening in the avatar universe, not an insight into things we the viewers can relate to

  • @velinion1
    @velinion1 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    While I enjoyed Korra, I think there's a few reasons people don't like it.
    1) Bad pacing. Nickelodeon only green lit one season, then didn't extend until it had wrapped. Did this with the second season too. This prevented the writers from creating long-term arcs, and forced them to rush endings at the end of seasons.
    2) Korra is a teenager and acts like a teenager. That's good writing, but I understand some people would find it annoying. I think the pacing exacerbated this as well.
    3) Retcons to lore. No spoilers, but some revealed lore wasn't well received, either due to personal preference, resulting lore conflicts upon further consideration, or contradiction. No discussion here! No need for spoilers! Just didn't sit well with everyone for a variety of reasons. Others were fine with it 🤷‍♂️.
    Mostly I think it was reason 1. The writers were working with serious handicaps due to the uncertain show length, and I'm pretty sure the other issues were a direct or indirect result of this.

    My problem with the show is really just Korra as a person, I find literally everyone and everything is more interesting then her, and for a show that's supposed to be about HER, it's not a good thing for that to happen. Aang can be dismissed as the classical reluctant hero type but she is the opposite. In this episode she demonstrates an unwillingness to connect to people when she believes she lost her bending, then turns around when she gets it back. It shows her entire self worth is invested in the fact that she is the avatar, self centered hero complex does not making a compelling person to follow. Maybe this is good writing for a teenage girl, that is beyond me, but those are my thoughts.

    • @lucidiously
      @lucidiously 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I once saw it described as Aang's journey is about a person becoming the Avatar, while Korra's journey is about the Avatar becoming a person.
      And besides being older than Aang, you have to keep in mind how she grew up. She's known she's the Avatar since she was like 3, and most of her life up until now has existed of training bending in an isolated compound, being told she's the Avatar who has important duties to the world.
      That doesn't change that it can't be obnoxious and grating at times, but it does explain a lot about _why_ she acts the way she does.

    I feel the reason most people don't like the show is because of Korra. Korra is just way too cocky and pretty much the reason why all the villains get away with what they do. Amon wouldn't have got this far if she didn't have the I'm the avatar and get to do whatever I want attitude. If she just relied on her friends a bit more instead of rushing into things, most of the troubles Amon and Tarrlok caused wouldn't have happened. Same thing for the season 2 villain.
