In today's video I'm going to give you the first look at GenerateBlocks 1.9 Alpha and GenrateBlocks Pro 1.7 Alpha, which is a MONUMENTAL release.
Although there are dozens of upgrades in the latest version, first I want to tackle the remake of the entire "Global Styles" functionality giving us the ability to create and manage classes right from the editor.
If you're new to this "class-first" approach, it may feel like a little more work initially... but in this video I'm going to demonstrate just how powerful it is and how much time it will save to in creating a more scalable and consistent website!

What is best practice to keep an overview of all the classes you have in a site? In old GB we have the Global Styles page where I can easily have my typography set up for an example.
Is it best to have a page that is a “style guide” kind of page in Draft-mode?
Yeah, a style guide is a nice to have thing. Coming up with some kind of naming convention is important... something you can re-use over and over again so you're not totally starting new with every project.
So maybe a Style Guide page is something to include in the Blueprint..@@TheAdminBar
Being very new to WordPress your videos are so helpful thank you so much. I’m pretty proficient in HTML and CSS so this new class system makes everything feel very familiar coming from a static html and css building background. Just curious to know what theme do you use with generate blocks? Do you use generate press and if so do you use the pro version? I’m just trying to find a good setup and if possible want to avoid page builders
Yes, I use GeneratePress Pro - mostly for the "elements" feature (I couldn't live without that!)
I have a license for GP Pro so I think I have found my new WP stack. Just watched all the new videos and they are top draw! Thanks again for what you do. Do you think this will stop the need to add custom css in the customizer now?

You'll have to write custom code.
Brilliant! Any idea when this will be released? I was considering going with GP/GB for my next project and that's due to start this Saturday. Hope it's out real soon!
Well, I would expect the alpha and beta phases to last a month+. So, I wouldn't plan on a project that's starting this soon. There could be changes that don't have backwards compatibility between alpha versions so it's not recommended to put these into production.
Guess I'll just make the changes required when this release drops. I made up my mind about using GP/GB earlier today so going to stick with my decision. I was on the fence about going FSE for the project but I dunno, it didn't feel like the right choice in the end. It did have me thinking though, if FSE is not the future and widespread adoption doesn't take place, what the hell is the future for Wordpress?? Interesting times ahead 😁
I’m in the exact same boat as you, I really wanted to try FSE but it just feels clunky. I’m very new to Wordpress and from all the videos I have watched and articles I have read GP/GB seems like a really clean combo and this new release looks great. Just want to get started with it now! I was looking a Kadence blocks as well but not sure if they have the features the upcoming GB has

I do not have the 1.9 version of generateblocks mine only goes to 1.8.3. Any idea why I am not able to get the newest version?
Because it's an Alpha release. You'll have to login to your GenerateBlocks account on their website to download it. Make sure to not use it in production!

@@TheAdminBar I use the paid Kadence Blocks and I am not doing enough of new projects now to justify another similar solution at this moment. But this is a great move from GP team!
