  • Learn how to install a portible SSD to save dashcam and sentry mode footage on your Tesla. An SSD is better and is more likely to save the video properly- so you can save the serious things, and the funny things that happen on the road!
The SSD card I have and use (Samsung T7 Portable SSD 500GB - Up to 1050MB/s - USB 3.2 External Solid State Drive, Gray (MU-PC500T/AM)):

Next level: Hook up a Raspberry Pi and have it sync the videos to your home storage when in wifi range!

Power would be an issue. So you'd also need a ~10 Wh 18650 that'll get charged up veeeerly slowly (

THANK YOU! Thank you so much for answering my question about using an SSD with my Tesla Model Y, 2023 version. I just happen to have purchased the same Samsung SSD T7 as you! But mine is red. Would the colour make a difference? I wanted to have one matching the colour of my car! (Just joking. But we know everything red drives faster…!)
    Thanks again so much.

Same problem with the Samsung Portable SSD T7 1TB. I had to manually format on my computer and manually create the folder on the drive titled exactly "TeslaCam". Plugged it in the car and all worked fine. Car would still not let me do the format like in the video for some reason or another. Maybe it's an issue with 1TB vs 500GB

Perhaps. That is interesting, thanks for sharing and glad you got it to work! Sorry it was more of a hassle!

I had to format it and create the folders on a computer with my 2tb T5. Even then the car wouldn't recognize it until I rebooted it

Does the larger hard drive work only for sentry videos or can you store more games and music on it as well?

search videos on splitting your drive partition so you can have music and one is sentry recordings.

The format button will also set up to fat32 and install the teslacam folder at the same time or does this still have to be done separatley.

    • @evupnorth1493
      @evupnorth1493  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Should be automatic unless you format manually on the pc

Odd. When does it say it has an error? Were you able to get to the 'format USB' option and click that button?

Bad choice !!! Never use SSDs on your Tesla but instead SD cards that supports until 90 ª C

    Isn't it pointless havi g such a large drive🤔
The useless Tesla dashcam only records 1 hour of the last journey, then deletes that footage at the beginning of your next journey.
As it isnt a proper dashcam at all, I have fitted a proper one in mine, so the Tesla "dashcam" is effectively redundant🙄

It's a bit overkill. But if you save a lot of clips, as I tend to do, then it really helps holding that storage for longer before I have to download it. It also helps with the read/write speed a bit too.
