And at that point, they were no longer to carry on as a group and their hearts were no longer in it and they basically did not promote the album.
This made me cry! I remember balling my little 6 year old eyes out when Ginger left the Spice Girls! I was so sad! 😅😢 It was like I lost a family member

And they gave Geri love from the stage. Coming off their triumphant Christmas in Spiceworld Tour no less, the Girls were in great form. So yeah. And that SYBT acapella that followed? Fantastic.
I feel Geri could have done more to sustain her career. Her performance and show were amazing. Had she tried to sing live she would have stayed a little bit more as a solo artist. She would have gained credibility. I mean Bag it Up was literally WDYTYA part II and people still bought it and supported it. The girls show was better on vocal and musical terms. Those arranges on SUYL were amazing. This proves Geri was so in her moment at that time that the public will love her no matter what she did and that SGs had evolved as artists because they had the assets to do so and present a more organic performance.
You can so clearly see how Posh blossomed once Geri left. You cant have two Type A people in a group. Victoria's energy just skyrocketed in that last phase of their time together.

I think they sound good here, but if you don’t you’re entitled to your view. I just don’t agree. The Spice Girls story is interesting because of its fluid, forward-thinking arc, not because it is a slave to one’s nostalgia from one period in their collective-individual story. Food for thought.

But their ‘98 BRITs performance, their London 2012 showing, as well as selections from their various tours (‘98, ‘99, ‘07/‘08, ‘19) get a hat tip here. But I always felt the Girls had reached a certain level of live performance proficiency coming off the ‘99 dates and going into this. There was a confidence and progression that really was interesting to witness despite the internal dynamics being in slight flux.

Even tho all of their hit singles are absolute classics, I always thought it was very random they chose "Spice Up Your Life" and of all songs "Goodbye" - a ballad at an awards show.
I found it very appropriate. They were effectively saying Goodbye as they knew there would be little chance they'd be at the Brit Awards the following year. They were only given this award because they'd dominated the previous 2 years so they couldn't exactly go away empty handed. They were practically finished by this point. I hated them by this time and all my friends that had been fans since 1996 no longer liked them either. Even when Davina introduces their final performance she says 'until next time...hopefully.'

If anything, my comment shows just how much of a hold they had on a certain demographic and how quickly young people moved from one thing to the next. Even Geri pointed that out in 1997 when they were asked about being popular and if they were worried they wouldn't last- she said 'fame is fickle, people can move on to the next big thing so quickly, we're here for as long as the fans want us here.' Probably worth mentioning that the age group I'm talking about became teenagers in the year 2000, of course our tastes and interests changed- we were moving to high school and entering puberty after all! I remember Geri saying in a 1997 interview how kids love something one day then hate it the next and that is why fame can be so fickle. I was just giving an example of how back at that age it's all or nothing when it comes to liking something, especially when you're moving on to high school, you pretty much have your likes and dislikes dictated to you if you want to fit in!
I don't think the change of style was a problem, Forever had bops, but they totally disappeared for 1.5 -2 years and all of a sudden they returned but music industry was not the same. If Forever was released a year prior I'm sure it would do a lot lot better
Yeah they got pregnant. But they had the album was early than it was released. They wrote Holler before Darkchild wrote Say My Name. But when they released, they were accused of being DC copycats.
Listen to the songs leaked on youtube whc they wrote b4 decided to go rnb.. the songs were good. Like painproof, right back at ya in pop version..if they stick to pop and put on good mv, i thk their third album would hv done much better, though would be hard to replicate the uccess of the first 2 abums.

That's their worst performance visually. Emma was overweight, Victoria anorexic, Mel B's implants about to burst and Mel C simply a mess. They sounded awful at "lalalalala". Yet that performance is totally iconic and I used it watch it on repeat for ages. PS: poor Posh she thought she's going to be assaulted that night, she received death threats prior to that night, you can see how petrified she was!
Mel C has had an amazing transformation. She became such a beautiful human inside and out since this era ❤
