Adelaide to Port Adelaide - Driver's Eye View 2/12/13

A trip along the Outer Harbour line from Adelaide station to just past Port Adelaide, viewed from the front window of a 2000/2100 Class 'Jumbo' DMU. These unusual railcars feature a high level cab, allowing passengers to sit in the front window at floor level. Since filming this video all Jumbos have been withdrawn from service. Apologies for the camera vibrations, these were transmitted from the windowsill.

hahaha the train bridge at the end,, we used to walk across that and fish on the other side..if the train came ,we would crouch down in the middle... was kind of a walk way down the middle..if the driver saw you,, he would be tripping on the horn as he went over the bridge..this was years ago though,, the shopping center wasnt even built yet ..just a dirt block .cooked a fat bream under that bridge .. used to be a good fishing spot..

I remember the days you could catch a train to Port Dock(Port Adelaide) and before the freezer store was built (they are pictured on the right as the train ascends to the Commercial Rd station )the Track to Port Dock station was straight. .There also was a workers service to the ICI at Osbourne.

It's the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute, next to the new Royal Adelaide Hospital which was being built when this video was made (as you can see). The train slows just before the old Adelaide Gaol a little way further on, but the run past the gaol has been edited out for some reason. It's supposed to be haunted, so maybe .....................

Yeah, it is pretty nostalgic too! They should never of Demolished the Jumbos yet alone put them out of use. Could’ve maybe fixed up the Engines and the Interior then would’ve been good for use

@@zaco21_except the drivers cab is too tall to fit underneath the catenary of the electrified lines which were being rolled out across Adelaide’s metro lines. They wouldn’t have been able to take passengers to Adelaide station

No, at the time of writing only the Seaford and Tonsley lines have been completed.

@@Taitset yeah, they even canceled plans to run electrification to the maintenance depot, if you want to service the electric trains, they actually have to be TOWED by one of the 3000 class diesel electrics to the dry creek depot, epic fail Adelaide Metro.
