From what I’ve been able to find is that it will be called the Dr-z4s. EFI, Weight around 340 for the sm, 5 speed with new ratios (one source said 6, but more than one said 5), steel frame with an aluminum subframe, switchable abs and ride modes, new inverted suspension, lots of little revisions… I’m excited for it!
@ yeah, I posted that before the official release. Suzuki still hasn’t said what has been done to the transmission other than saying that it has been ‘revised’ and a diagram of the motor shows that two gears may have had changes, but it’s not known if the ratios were changed. The old 5 speed with close ratios doesn’t bother me, though. Sure, you’ll have to gear it taller or shorter depending on your riding, and it’s a bit more specialized, but I think the 5 vs 6 speed is blown out of proportion
I agree with everything you said about the DRZ 400 being a great all round dual sport bike. I've owned 21 of them. As far as the rear passenger pegs? The DRZ stock ones are mounted too high. Ok for a kid but I ride with my wife a lot. I had to lower them on my DRZ. You can easily add passenger pegs to *any bike. Or at least any welder can. I would never let that be a reason for picking a bike. I had them on my XR650r. Most Subframes are strong enough. I've ridden 2up on many bikes riding hard terrain for yrs with no issues. I would never let that be a reason for picking a bike.
Yeah there's been no mention of an SM version yet so we'll see if they do one. You would think they would with the success and reputation of the current DRZ400SM
It's official. DR-Z400S named changed to DR-Z4S DR-Z400SM named changed to DR-Z4SM. Sort of follows the naming convention of their new 8S and 8R bikes, the prefix being GSX, but whereas the prefix on the dual sport has been DR-Z.
It has some big changes to the engine too.. titanium intake valve, dual iridium spark plugs, revised head, revised piston shape, heavier valve springs, hollow exhaust valves (lighter/faster), efi, 20% reduction in internal friction.
It seems really good, more power than the drz, lots of great features on it. It's more of that rally/adventure touring style but the price is right and it looks the part. CF Moto is very underrated imo
The DRZ aftermarket support is already so insane that I think I would just grab a 400 for now and wait a few years for the DR-Z to get some pretty new upgrades and lots of maps for the tuning. Price probably won't fluctuate much and I wouldn't be surprised if the DRZ stays in production for another year or two until they slowly move people over to the surely more expensive platform with more bits in it that can go wrong and will need replacing
I bought a 2020 DRz400s to try out light ADV riding, which I found kind of boring and the DRz isn't the right bike for that type of riding in my area. Anyway, I put the bike in storage with plans to sell it in the spring. Mine is a low mileage(1,800mi), well maintained specimen, I really hope this redesigned model doesn't hurt used prices too much... But I have a feeling the used market is suddenly going to be flooded with DRz's as owners upgrade to the 2025 😐
probably initially but their might be just as many people scrambling to get the last of the old ones. from someone that owns an e model the new one is heavier, has lower compression and is ugly. so unless it proves to be better i won't be getting rid of my e model.
@@6226superhurricane ...With any luck I'll hook up with a buyer that wants to stick with the simplicity, known reliability and looks of the "old" model... If not, then its not the worst thing in the world to have a DRz in the garage 😉
I had a DRZ from 2005 to 2020 when I sold it. I had other bikes along side it, but I replaced the DRZ with a '21 690E. The 690 fixed every problem I had with the DRZ. I have a job, so I don't care about the price; totally worth 13g. No short intervals on the 690. Runs everyday.
new model claims more hp but i'd say it has more hp than the current s (which is a detuned emissions version) but i doubt it has more hp than the current E model. also the s model has 33hp at the wheel, crf450l/rl have 38hp, drz400e has 41hp. new drz4s supposedly has a 5 speed still. suzuki won't make it 450 as 400cc and under is a cheaper registration bracket in japan. aluminium frame is crap for a dual sport, the drz is far better off keeping the chromoly frame because it's lightweight and strong. anyway that's enough i thought you might hasve accurate information, but you don't. we'lll all find out more when the details are released tonight.
It's about time the bike gets fuel injection. Suzuki gave their old quad, the LTZ 400 fuel injection 16 years ago and it has the exact same engine. Don't know what took them so long to do it for the dirt bike.
I'm hearing a lot of crying from people about this update. 😰They want 60hp, 10,000 mile oil changes, 30,000 mile valve intervals at 220 pounds and $5,000. 🙄This isn't meant to be a KTM350 killer. What is so awfully bad about refining an engine that has proven to be rock solid reliable with decent horsepower? A 400 with decent power and good reliability is a sweet spot for a lot of riders. Not building a new engine can bring it in at a decent price. Yeah, you don't get a 6 speed by keeping the old engine, but you also don't get a maintenance nightmare. And what is so bad about a refined DRZ400 motor anyway? EFI adds better starting, altitude compensation, increased mpg etc. They added a new clutch which makes me suspect that though they didn't add another gear, I would bet that they refined the gear ratios. They added a new display, fuel guage, and LED lights and signals. It's a new frame and suspension, so hopefully it has better handling. As for the whining about the weight, in the past they always advertised the weight lower than they ever ended up being, and lately it seems they are actually being accurate. So until we can get one side by side with an old model, we don't really know how much heavier it got, or if it feels heavier. Personally, I think it's going to be a nice bike for people who want to go out and explore and not be adjusting valves every other weekend. I'm personally in the market for a new dual sport next summer, and was thinking CRF300L, but this is now high on the list. I'm excited about seeing the reviews.
@@australienski6687 Again, since they did so many mods, including the clutch, what makes you think that they didn't modify the gear ratios? A DR650 has a 5 speed, and it will cruise at 75-80 just fine, and easily run up to 100mph. The 400 makes just as much horsepower and could probably pull a similar ratio. I wouldn't freak out too much until some people actually get some testing on it.
it's still 5 speed, and its heavier. that's disappointing tbh, I was hoping they would upgrade the engine to have it put out hp in the 40s. Heavier bike with same hp, why?
Its not a 6 speed

340? Sounds like a pig.
The Suzuki Global site is showing 5 speed constant mesh
People keep claiming that the 5 speed has new ratios. That has not been published yet, it's pure "internet speculation"

I bought a DRZ400SM a month ago. I didn't realize they were planning on updating it
I have a feeling the older models are going to be more desirable after the update, we'll see

Would take solid stainless steel valves all day. Cheaper and more durable.

I think I'm gonna hold with the V Star 650 you talked me into.
A solid machine as well 👍
Still only 5 gears? Why?
What are your thoughts on the CF MOTO 450 MT?
It's a middle weight twin cylinder
I think kinda interesting and around same power of the drz 400.

Nobody can say it's impossible due to a grandfather clause. Kawasaki did it with the KLR650 and the KLX300
This is the truth 👍

The current DRZ only shows up as a 2024 model, so "continuing production" isn't likely.
@DualSportDoug fair enough, I would've preferred they announced the MSRP alongside it if they are completely ending production of the DRZ
I would buy a 400cc fuel injection with 6 gear drz in a heartbeat. I had a crf300L, so any power in the 35hp range, I would be happy with
