    WOW Will...thank you so much for sharing your childhood memories! I loved how you decided to make the Smokies your future.
    When I was 8 years old, I did a study on East Tennessee and the Smokies. I fell in love with Tennessee so much that I had decided that I wanted a cabin tucked away in the smokies when I grew up. I told my Dad about my childhood dream and he said “A thousand mile journey begins with the first step” and he handed me my first $5 bill to put towards my cabin. Well, that’s all it took for me to start saving my money. With all the money I had saved beginning at the age of 8, I bought a cabin in Wears Valley, Tennessee in 2003.
    I am now 51 years old and I still have my childhood dream in which will become my retirement home very soon. As for now though, I wanted to share my cabin with the world, so it’s on a vacation rental program as a nightly rental. 😊

    Thanks for sharing this history. We moved to Cadillac from Southern Oregon so we appreciate your comment about the cold. We've been in Cadillac since 1977 so have gotten used to this weather, but really fell in love with the Smokies a few years ago. We have friends that live there (Rick and Tommy Mohr that operate a custom knife shop right outside Smokey Mountain Knifeworks.)

    Liked seeing your hometown and especially the 9/11 memorial. The town really showed its heart by making the memorial so special. We are a firefighting family so it really touched me. I grew up in a town without a stoplight too-in KY. My family went to Gatlinburg 3 or 4 times a year too. It will always be special to me and I try to get there at least once a year now. Thanks for showing what's new there and some of the smaller places that we might overlook. Dawn seems like the kind of person who has a good time wherever she is. Your a lucky man. Stay safe.

    Very cool. I grew up there as well. Always wondered what happened to the folks that had the pizza place there. Best bread sticks I’ve ever had! Only mistake in the video was Travco. That wasn’t the correct factory. The one you showed was the old Explorer factory on M 90. Travco was the complex on Maple Valley Rd.

    • @diannec1633
      @diannec1633 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@200x-v4k Here in Murfreesboro Tn we are getting lots of people moving in from California, Illinois, Michigan (Will) Ha , and several other states. I know why we and many others left Illinois. They tax everything and they are high. We moved to Tn , built a new house at triple the value of our house in Il and our property taxes are half on our new house than they were up there on a 50 year old house.
      The saying is : Illinois, the state where your former Governor makes your license plate in prison! LOL and it’s true!

I visited the up and absolutely fell in love with it.. that I came back again and then covert started and they told me I had to go back home and I hadn't been in Montana for years... I'm going to make one more attempt to move to Michigan and this time they'll never be able to tell me to leave cuz I always want to be there again because when I was a little kid we spent a lot of time up in Michigan and I really missed it very much... I just got tired of moving all over the western United States.. thank you so much for sharing your hometown TH-cam is a blessing in a lot of ways one of us folks love having friends and meeting people... And I've done my exploring and I sure fell in love with escanaba and Hiawatha and other areas in Michigan too.... Ahhh. Home sweet home in Michigan. I cant say I ever went through Brown City growing up. Most people associate Michigan with the Detroit Metro area. Growing up in Mt. Clemens, that is exactly what I associate my childhood with. Urban sprawl. Brown City is much prettier. It would be fun to travel the state once again during the summer to see some of the historical spots. The western part of the state being my favorite places to go. Traverse City, Sleeping Bear dunes, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Muskegon where I spent 2 weeks every summer in band camp as well as 1 month in Scandinavia on exchange back in the late 80's. Many good memories. Watching your video is is always amazing to see how flat Michigan really is. It is this reality that has created a "calling" towards the mountains. I am sure you feel the same magic visiting the Smokies as I did when seeing them for the first time. It is hard to explain it. And perhaps there is no word for that calling. Unfortunately, to make a living, our home is in North Carolina along the Piedmont 2 hours away from the mountains. So I must accept the reality of "visiting" the Smokies when time permits. I am glad you were able to chase your dream and actually live there on the Tennessee side of the Appalachians. As you say, Michigan will always be our roots, but the South is our home. I wish you well and hope to meet you sometime.

    Will, you grew up in even a smaller town than I did which is Athens, Alabama. My town had a town square that looked exactly like the one in “Back to the Future” with the clock and everything. Lol Life sure was a lot simpler back then. I used to go to my grandma’s house out in the country. I’d climb trees and swing on vines. Played in the ditch digging up rocks. I was definitely a Tom boy back then. Had all kinds of fun with my neighborhood kids. We’d play hide and go seek, kickball, and jump on our trampoline. In a way, I think all of us in the USA had similar childhoods especially if you lived in a small town. We probably had the same games like light brite, monopoly, and twister,etc. You’re younger than I am though. Many blessings to you and Dawn. You guys are extraordinary people and for that I’m grateful! Much love in Christ! 💕🙏❤️😇

    I'm from Brown City too. Grew up on Second Street. You may know my family. LOL And guess what I too also live in Tennessee. I live in Greeneville/Baileyton. I showed my boyfriend your video and now he would like to go up to Brown City and see where I grew up at. Since he has shown me around where he has grown up here in Tennessee.

    Will- I really enjoyed your life story. I also honor you saving money over the years to get your place in the Smokies. That is very rare these days. I did the same thing working and saving and finally buying a house in GA. You and Dawn seem to be good down to earth folks from the Midwest much like my wife and I. We wish you the best and enjoy your videos.

    I know Brown City & Port Huron. My husband has been selling power washers in both those towns for 45 years. We live in farm country west of Saginaw. We have been to Pigeon Forge & Gatlinburg & it’s beautiful. But there’s no place like my Michigan.
