Yeah, that was magic! I was a high school junior then senior when UCLA won back to back NCAA championships. They instantly elevated the whole West Coast basketball mindset. I remember reading about Hazzard and Goodrich in Scholastic Magazine in my English class. Those guys were all so cool and epitomized the laid back California style.
Not only did they win back to back in 1964 and 1965, they also won it all in 1967, 1968, 1969, 1970, 1971, 1972, 1973, and 1975. That's mighty impressive!
@@smhollanshead I assume you already know, but it was Bill Walton's last year, the 88 game winning streak was broken by a loss to Notre Dame, and NC State beat the Bruins in double overtime in the semi-finals and went on to win their first championship.
@civlyzed: Wooden and UCLA were THE dynasty, but 64-65 was magic. They had the biggest heart and the best team effort of all the national championships.
My Dad and I attended the 1964 NCAA semi-finals and finals against Kansas State (the local favorite) and Duke, respectively. In both games they trailed at one point, and then ran off a flurry of points from their zone press defense and won decisively. Even though I was from the mid west that team became a favorite of mine because no player was taller than 6 ft. 5 inches. They destroyed Duke even though two of Duke's front court starters were just short of 7 feet tall.
Wooden was always trying to get rid of him because of his pot-use and his influence on Kareem. He couldn’t due to athletic director, JD. Morgan intervention. So, he would meddle him to drive him out.
@@davanmani556 I guess i shouldn't be surprised. He did suspend Lucious Allen ( 1st team All American ) for that reason as well. I always liked Edgar, a parade HS All American who, I assumed wooden recruited, unless JD Morgan really did some basketball recruiting ? Bob Knight says he did just that, and left Wooden wothout that responsibility. Thanks for this information Davan

Yes, but what happened in 1974?

@@smhollanshead They blew a game against NC State that was in the bag.
Something about watching that felt good. :)

Showtime before Showtime
By the way, did you notice how handsome all the UCLA players were?
Is that Ray Manzarek of The Doors???
Yep.
This is from HBO. The narrator gives it away
Where is Edgar Lacy ? A hugh performance in the Title Game of 1965. Against Cazzie and Buntin and Darden, Edgar playerd real well

What is this from?
What's this from? What's the name of the doc?
I think it's from the ESPN doc. Part of the Sports Century series, I think it was called.
Yeah, I know it isn't ESPN. Could be an HBO production or some type of straight-to-video/DVD release.
CBS sports
The black Dutch.
