      Imagine your laughing on a small comedic show then all of the sudden the whole entire room starts rotating towards that horror/ language movie behind the theater. The guy who is doing a comedic show will be flabbergasted as he watch his family friendly audience facing the horror/language movie on the other side of the room.

      This would be very dangerous to operate while a show is going on because people can get pinned between a rotating and a stationary wall possibly trying to leave while in a panic over what's happening. I assume there are several interlocks in place besides the wall panel shown here to prevent the seating area from moving while occupied.
      Back in 1974, a Disney cast member was crushed to death by a rotating stage in the "America Sings" attraction at Disneyland, being pinned between the moving wall of the stage and the stationary wall of the audience section. They eventually installed breakaway walls to prevent this from happening again and the ride closed down for good in 1988.

      on top of that the room would have vastly diffrent acustic properties compared to having the seats in the main therter vs the mini one.

      @@MaxLai_0104 Timberlane HS in New Hampshire ran into the soundproofing issue with their performing arts center's rotating section. The cozy little recital hall provided by the rotating section becomes unusable if the main auditorium is in use. The Earl Snapp Auditorium (c1972, Indian Hill HS, Cincinnati) has similar features with two balconies that can be opened to the theater. They don't rotate, but have giant front walls that automatically roll into pockets. When the balconies aren't being used for productions, they are large classrooms. Lorain County Community College’s Stocker Center has something very similar. It was built in the early 1980’s and had two rotating balconies. It made the theatre very flexible but there were initial issues with acoustics. Apparently the sound travelled differently from when the the seating was fully open and when the balconies were rotated closed. My university has something similar. There is one building with four auditoriums (one big and three smaller). The three smaller ones could be turned around to connect to the big one to make one huge auditorium (aula q at the VUB in Belgium).

  • @ryanpenrod1859
    @ryanpenrod1859 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    This could actually be kind of cool to use for scene changes during a play, of course it's probably not recommended to rotate it while people are sitting there... But you could actually switch from a small interior scene to a big outdoor scene with more impact than just restricting/changing the same stage.

    • @richardmillhousenixon
      @richardmillhousenixon ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It probably takes too long to do, so is fairly impractical to do during a production, and the mechanism probably isn't built to handle the weight of all those people, to say nothing of the safety aspect.

  • @DaveTexas
    @DaveTexas ปีที่แล้ว +2

    How is the soundproofing between these two spaces? Like if you’re having a solo piano recital in the small theatre and a Wagner opera with a 45-piece orchestra in the larger theatre, would the people in the smaller theatre be able to hear sound bleeding through from the larger hall?

    • @arionthedeer7372
      @arionthedeer7372 ปีที่แล้ว

      That situation obviously wouldn't happen. The circle thing is supposed to be a lecture hall

    • @dougaltolan3017
      @dougaltolan3017 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wall looks like it's at least a foot thick. You can do a lot of sound isolation in a foot.

    • @lillsbills7349
      @lillsbills7349 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a high school. It is not a lecture hall. There is actually 2 rotating sections of this theatre. While trying to rehearse a production in the little theatre with a main event in the big theatre it has been found that because the ceiling is only one piece- the sound systems can be heard but people performing seems to be ok. Take that as you will for how productive they are while both spaces are in use

    I'm imagining you fill the big auditorium space with paid extras who all have like. Glowing eyes led masks. Halfway through the show the small theatre rotates to become the bigger one and the entire (real) audience turns to see this crowd of glowing eyes all staring at them. Then the fake audience turns back towards the front and acts like a regular audience for the rest of the night unless required to do something creepy again and the show continues on the bigger stage
