"Concepts are way more important than individual techniques" really resonates with me. At my skill level I find remembering all the techniques you've demonstrated since I stared very difficult. Especially in the heat of a roll. But the concepts are more universal. These I can work on, bit by bit. I think this is your best video to date coach.

    • @JordanTeachesJiujitsu
      @JordanTeachesJiujitsu  2 ปีที่แล้ว +30

Thanks man 🙏 I bet you'll randomly remember a bunch of techniques that you think you forgot as you keep rolling. Like "oh ya I can do a loop Choke here." Used to always happen to me.
I think in the past people have over complicated concepts by digging deep into the geometry and math of it all which goes over my head. The simple a concepts like I bring to the table are really taking off elsewhere too I'm noticing, which is awesome to see!

PLEASE DO A BJJ CONCEPTS TIER LIST! We cant remember everything at first but it would be very nice to know what the number one most important thing to remember is, then number 2, then number 3, etc. We might not be able to remember very far down the list in the beginning but it would be extremely helpful to know where to focus our attention. Love your videos by the way, ive already improved a lot from watching, thank you. OSS!

Thanks for saying that man. It was honestly stressing me out so much last week and contributed to the delay of getting this video done.
I know it shouldn't bother me but I don't like when people say it in a way where it detracts from the video, and the effort I put into it. I think if people understood I'm reading out loud everything that's said and just trying to talk slow and clear, then they wouldn't say anything or care.
My natural speaking voice is pretty monotone as is, but reading, it just gets worse. So just super annoying to be critisized for that. At least that's the only thing I'm really critisized for, so I should just be happy considering the internet is ruthless.
Thanks for listening to me rant btw. Felt good to get it out haha

@@JordanTeachesJiujitsu haha its okay, we can tell you put a lot of work in your videos. I think the problem with changing your voice would be that since its not natural, its gonna come off very forced which might make it worse. Whatever you’re doing right now is working as shown by how fast your channels grown. The quality of your videos/content are 🔥 information and its only a matter of time before you hit 100k+ subscribers.

0:00 sit instead of lay in your guard - it's hard to reach grips from your back. from seated position you can sit back or play sit-up guard.
0:31 keep your toes on the mat - from side control keep your toes on the mat so you can drive your weight into your opponent.
0:45 trap arms to make submissions easier - make it an unfair fight. your 2 hands against their 1, or their none against your 1, will make submissions easier.
1:13 control the legs when finishing a sweep - prevent the scramble. controlling the legs ensures you come up on top, not your opponent.
1:38 break grips that stop you from doing what you want to do - you don't need to break every single grip. only grips that stop you from advancing position.
1:56 take grips to control your opponent - if you don't control them, they will control you. lack of grips allows for easy attacks against you.
2:16 clear the elbow/knee line - in almost all cases, once you are clear of the joint line, you are clear of the submission threat.
2:44 keep your hands off the mat - you need to control your opponent, not the mat. keep your hand(s) off the mat.
3:10 do not accepts sweeps/takedowns - it's not over until it's over. fight hard to get back up if you get knocked down.
3:23 never let people grab your head - the head is one of the best points of control. you're probably letting your head get grabbed all the time.
3:47 prevent inside position - inside position is most importantly the space between your neck and shoulder, and armpit and knee.
4:40 t-rex arms - your elbows should not leave your body. t-rex arms prevent limb isolation, underhooks and head control
5:30 underhooks are almost always a good idea - underhooks are king. especially in nogi. they lead to back takes, sweeps, takedowns, passes & more.
5:50 path of least resistance - the less you strain the more technical you will become. you want to use the minimum effective dose of strength.
6:19 fight the hands when being choked - priority number 1 is to protect your neck. only if your neck is protected, can you use you lower them.
7:02 keep your hips higher to win scrambles - higher hips will ensure you stay on top, and your opponent stays on the bottom.
7:28 keep your butt down or all the way up - the in between is often where you are most susceptible to be swept.
7:52 load your opponents hips onto yours - the further your opponents hips are from your centre line, the heavier they will be.
8:10 use wedges - when something is stuck, you need to pry it out. use wedges to help free whatever is stuck.
8:28 break posture in your guard - you can attack from their broken posture or let them posture up and attack as they do.

Epic video! As another user said "Concepts are way more important than individual techniques", this is a big one for me as a new white belt, trying to get head to the surface.
watched a good number of your videos and all top notch, well done.

T-Rex arms have helped me so much. Not only does it stop people from grabbing my head but it opens up opportunities to regain guard or prevent my half guard being passed. Great stuff!

Great video as always! So many things to work on and it's great to have practical tips laid out. Just told my wife about your phrase "worst case Ontario". 🤣👍Never told you this but when I started rolling in Alberta I told some of the guys about your channel and one guy already heard of it before mentioning it to him 🤙
